There was an abundance of questions and suggestions concerning our first "Bandsaw Magic" video, so in Part 2 we have answered those questions, reviewed the suggestions, and pushed this magic to a new level. Nick shows new mixed-wood pattern that yield spectacular results, reveals what happens when you cut two markedly different curves in adjoining sides, and explains how to modify the bandsaw magic technique to create tapered shapes. He then uses this modified magic to create a true cabriole leg -- with tapers in two directions! He also answers your most pressing question, "Which band saw blade works best?"
Nick's "Chart of Common Band Saw Blades" and their uses is available for FREE at the Workshop Companion Store at workshopcompanionstore.com/pr... . It covers blades of both metric and English-sizes. If you'd like to buy his book, "Using the Band Saw," find it here: workshopcompanionstore.com/pr... .

Best teacher I've ever had...
This is my new favorite class at wizarding school! Thanks for being a wonderful, engaging professor.
If you're trying to butter me up for a good grade, it's working.
How are you not at a billion subscribers on this yet?! These videos are unbelievably well made, funny, and informative!
Thanks for your kind words, and when you figure out the UA-cam algorithm -- the serendipitous god-like force that seems to decide these matters -- please let us know.
That Cabriole leg is sheer genius.
Thanks.
Mr. Nick Engler is the Bob Ross of Woodworking Art! My Compliments! Greetings from the Vienna Woods!

Nicely done. I said it for reference. And thanks for the chart. I'll be hanging it near my bandsaw.
Thanks much.
Thank you for teaching me.
You're most welcome.
You do remind me of my woodshop teacher from high school, but you don't look like him. He definitely encouraged my love of woodworking so that even now 35 years later I am still working on it. Thanks for the tips, ideas and fun you bring to UA-cam.
A man of intellect, craftsmanship, is always recognizable. Glad to have found you, SUBSCRIBED. THANK YOU.
Thank you for the kind words -- and welcome.
10:56 Love the commentary!
Brilliant as ever
Kind words.
Great video. It's amazing how easy you make this look. I'm going to give it a try, but I'm going to save this video just incase my leg ends up looking like an arm, or something. I bought your books many years ago and they have been my favorite to read. Glad I found your you tube channel. Thanks for the video and am looking forward to the next already.
Thanks for watching -- and reading!
This is an amazing video. I have always wondered how those shapes are produced. After the first video, I was able to do those shapes. Wow,
Glad to have been of help.
Excelente clase!!!! Feicitaciones!

Welcome!
Thank you!
Most welcome.
I enjoy your videos soooo much. You seem like such a kind sweetheart! I have to get a book or 2 because you are a wealth of knowledge. Most of the books I read are OK, but not great. I think yours will be great! And yes, I read them all.
as an architect and engineer, I love to see creativities and unique things - THIS certainly met both categories - appreciate this and Now, you had made me consider to buy a saw or not just to make some table legs
Thanks for the kind feedback; and we feel your pain. Band saws are expensive. But they are also a good investment in capability and creativity.
Gracias, excelente.
De nada.
Checked description to find a link to buy the book, but only found a link to free bandsaw knowledge.
You are awesome.
Thank you.
Book is here: workshopcompanion.selz.com/item/using-the-bandsaw . And thanks for reminding me; I'll amend the description. Book/plan sales is what puts wood on our workbench.
I love this
Thanks much.
Nice patterns!
Thanks.
Great
Hey! I have that book, and many more. Thanks.
You're welcome.
Fantastic work on those legs!
Thanks for showing us how do do that. I’m going to try some bench legs my self!
Good luck!
Brilliant . I just had to sub . keep on making em
You bet -- and welcome.
I'd love to see you make a detailed video of the last leg you made, the long slender one.
I automatically hit the like button before even watching. So glad to have found your channel.
Me too.
Que trabalho lindo!!!..
Parabéns!!..
Deus seja louvado por isso e muito mais!!..

Hello again, Joker. And thank you.
Just subscribed - you are a great teacher and entertaining too! x
Thanks.
You're a beautiful soul sir not only do i learn from your videos you also have me laughing my ass off ❤
That is the plan.
Whoa! These are extremely interesting to look at. I don't know why you didn't like the checkered one as much. I think that one is mesmerizing to stare at. Love your videos and your lessons!
Thanks for the kind words.
The awesomely whacky woodshop teacher we wish had but never knew existed
Good of you to notice. As a boy, I was abandoned at a circus and raised by a family of clowns. Grown folks usually ignore the whackiness, but it always makes the children giggle.
I want to be a wood wizard when I grow up. :D
Great video, I'm takin delivery of my first bandsaw in the next couple of days thanks for the inspiration.
Most welcome.
I tested it with a block today on my new bandsaw, and showed a few people. They really do react like your a sorcerer 😅
Muy buenas noches desde Colombia un fuerte abrazo y mil gracias por compartir toda tu sabiduría
Y muchas gracias por decirlo.

Thanks for the kind words, Scott.
Magic😊
You do not have enough Followers. Your skill and teaching is awsome!
Thank you for saying so.
Wherever that table went, it's a pretty safe bet that it's still a OneOfAKind!
This is super cool. i need to get some new band saw blades and try it. I'm getting to be an old man now and just started being interested in wood working I came up as a Auto tech but this is very appealing to me.
Glad to be of some inspiration.
Excellent tips and fantastic presentation. And a sense of humor I can relate to. I look forward to more!
Thanks -- I'll be here all week...;-)
Yes you are right, please visit also hete.
@@villageboypro9885 I'll talk to my agent...
I want to open up a small woodshop to do this- simple. efficient, and very pretty.
Good luck!
It's a WOW
Hi there
I love your videos. I've made a checker board breadboard, some reindeer and some other bandsaw magic. Wood working is my new passion. I work at the 2 biggest park district in Illinois. We have been working on
a wood shop. We would love some day to have wood shop classes. Anyways thank you for all your videos.
Most welcome.
Both the bandsaw magic videos have really inspired me. Is there any chance you have a video on how to make the actual blocks used? Thanks!
Afraid we don't --- just what's in the videos.
I’m sure someone else has noted this but it dawned on me that if I chamfered each of the long edges before making the two serpentine cuts, there would automatically be a hollow channel in the middle once assembled. Perfect for running wire through when making lamps. No need to drill.
Great idea. However, you might want to see ua-cam.com/video/aAD5yGaHunw/v-deo.html and go to 2:20.
@@WorkshopCompanion Haha - see, I knew it was a good idea (and that somebody else thought of it first - ie you)! In my defense, I got the idea after watching your other bandsaw magic video. Came back to comment - sure that my keen insight would rock the woodworking world. Would have been great if I had watched this one through as well 🤦♂
@@timrichards5249 Great minds run in the same ruts.
Copy and paste this and show your wife: You are a very clever man and a great teacher who explains his art passionately and clearly and with no hint of condescension 🌞
Congratulations, a great video, I have learned a lot. I am new to working with wood and I really liked everything I have seen of your work, very enjoyable and fun. Little by little I am building a small workshop and I have seen that your band saw is small but very powerful, I would like to buy a similar one, to do things like that. Could you tell me some characteristics so I know which one to buy?
Thank you. We recently got an upgraded bandsaw and your videos open a new, wide range of projects. Take care.
You're welcome -- and good luck.
Very nice! This is so beautiful. The possibilities are endless! I can't even draw or type what I have in my mind but because of that I will now go and read your book - "jigs, fixtures and shop furniture" and hopefully finish it until "using the tablesaw" and "woodworking wisdom" arrives. You are the best Nick! Thank you so much
Thanks for you kind words. It is so rare to find someone who actually reads my books. Years ago, in Bob Newhart's second show, "Newhart," he played an innkeeper/DIY author. In one episode, he bemoans, "People don't even read my books. They just refer to them." Been there, done that, paid the fine.
@@WorkshopCompanion Well I hope people will realize what they are missing. They are precious gems of knowledge one should not skip!
@@danijelkulenovic8370 Thanks again.
I'm your new sub Sir🙂. Absolutely 💯 beautiful tutorial and thank you so much for sharing your skills.
Thank you for those kind words. And welcome!
@@WorkshopCompanion 🙏 it's such a pleasure to watch your videos, someday I shall buy a bandsaw and try the amazing transformation till then I will enjoy watching Sir , thanks once more 🙂
Great video. I learned a great deal. How would you drill a hole for a lamp? Would you route a little ridge on the inside corner before you assemble? Subscribed!
Wecovered that in Part 1. See ua-cam.com/video/aAD5yGaHunw/v-deo.html and go to 2:20. And welcome!
I had just convinced myself that I didn’t need a bandsaw and changed my mind again 😂😂😂 brilliant video
Thanks for saying.
it's real magic thx
Absolutely. Welcome.
what do you think would be the best way to attach legs like this on a live edge table? This is my first attempt at this after watching your video's. Thank you for your educational and detailed content. You, by far, are the best teacher on youtube.
I would suggest attaching them to a skirt and then attaching the skirt to the table. Check out our video - bandsaw magic melting shelves. That might give you a good idea.
2 minutes in and I was hooked. Love your style and content, a perfect UA-cam combination.
I am wondering about bandsaw speed settings for the cuts. Does it depend on wood type, blade width or both?
It depends mostly on blade grind and stock thickness. I use a 1/4" (6 mm) skip-tooth blade for most cuts in stock over 1" (25 mm) thick.
I recently discovered your channel. I WILL be back.
Good to know. We'll set our alarms...;-)
