And Here you will be able to follow my classic mini restoration from start to finish! It is an Austin Mini Mayfair 998cc registered in 1986. I bought the car with 2 months MOT and it was running although the slave cylinder had gone. My plans for the car are to restore it to my standards just like my Orange one if not even better... if thats possible. 7 mate awesome videos. I'm in the army currently way on operations in Estonia. Love watching your videos. I've got a mini which I've start strip but its sat in my garage. But when I'm home in July I'll be starting work on it again. Good luck with firing ya engine up.

Great video today Tom lots done you'll soon be sorted mate don't forget to put some oil in the dash pot and prime it if you are going to mess with the drive shafts after you've put the oil in watch it don't leak out. Look forward to the next installment mate. Cheers Rob

Another piece of advice for you on that cir clip, make sure you absolutely get that to lock into the outer hub. Mine popped out after a few test runs and left me stranded on the road. Can’t tell you how frustrating that was and I ended up going back with an old cir clip that was a little bit thicker than the ones you can pick up that most mini shops.

Drain that old oil, it looks like treacle, no good can come from it.
Wires- white with red is usually solenoid trigger, If it's triggering a click noise it could be that solenoid is working but starter motor is “stuck”, sometimes a bop with hammer on starter shaft will free it up.
To get it to crank i'd pull all the fuses out and just focus on the starter circuit. Make sure you have good earths to bare metal on chassis for your earth straps in boot and engine bay. Ensure solenoid bolt downs are tight and ditto for starter motor cable

nice work sir, I love wiring I find it very therapeutic. I have made a few custom looms my self for the race minis but not sure what to do with Bernie, the convenience of buying an off the shelf looms seems like a quick option but what are your thoughts on quality of connectors etc.?
The Connectors are spot on! but they are a little pricey in my opinion.. maybe we should going into business selling them cheaper than minisport haha! :)
Blue/yellow wire with that additional connector is for spot lamp (and a switch if you have one).

The wires off the ignition go in to a block connection on the harness and there should be a brown wire in the harness to connect to

Great update, well done. Can you check at 19:05 though, that looks like the main starter cable connected directly to the engine steady front bolt!?
Assuming it's not as you've not gone up in smoke yet :)

Hi Ya. I know its a little late . I have seen HT leads with small plastic ties at each end ....1 for cylinder 1 ..2 for cyl 2 etc etc . as ink marks can be hard to see. It used to be a bloody nightmare at times setting the points in the dizzy . Hope te contactlesss is going well. Regards Don.

The plug at 28:00 could be for a fog light switch mate. Have to buy a switch bracket for it. Just get it on eBay for £3 or sout

Spare plug is for fog light switch that goes under dash on drivers side by your right knee. Have you got a ballast ignition system? Noticed the pink wire in your wiring loom by the coil although it’s not connected up. Are you cutting it out. My loom looks the same as yours and I’m getting rid of mine. They can cause fires in the loom apparently.

I know this is an old video, but could you let me know what the wire in your loom is covered in, its not standard wiring loom tape, looks more like mesh cable tube?

brave man that heatshrinks before testing (made that error before..) Fuses - did you put the same size in each? Earth cable, is that the correct route? I can't remember what standard looks like. MK1 lights, the ones fitted to my Britax had the wiring for stop and tail reversed from new, i just matched up the colours but sidelights illuminated stoplight and vice versa. Oil, whats that stuff? get a decent mini specific oil with high zinc content like millers etc. putting fresh oil in should see a clean dipstick, it looks like you've left old shite in the engine all this time, I'd very quickly change the oil again if it was mine and treat that first fill as nothing more than 'first start and engine flush'. I think the bullet connectors are crimped and soldered, at least mine have been. must be running by now?
i did drain the engine bud it s been sat for that long probably just had little bits run to bottom over the past 2 years, im gonna drain this oil as soon as ive got it running, its simply going to be used to flush it through :)
