Hey Adam, thanks a lot for creating this channel! Myself and 3 novices have our first AR in July 2021 - XPD Carins, Aus. We are excited/daunted by the undertaking. I really appreciate the info you provide here. Please keep it up!!
Awesome idea! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I have just watched a lot about eco challenge and thought, just as you did, this is an amazing sport and i want to be a part of it...so i´ll watch all the videos you are uploading, preparing for the first time racing. I would be interested, how someone can finance the whole thing(I am studying and find it hard to imagine buying a bike, the flights, equipment etc)
Hehehe, yes, paying for it is a challenge. The usual route is to do it slowly. Use basic/good-enough gear in your early days/years, then gradually replace heavy bits with expensive light bits. And in Europe, it's possible to do some pretty incredible races cheap, especially in Eastern Europe, which is an amazing place. Eg £140 for a 2-3 day race featuring biking, running, kayaking, caving, scootering/inline skates, open water swimming in the sea, climbing/abseiling, gorging, zip lines etc, and then use cheap flights to get there (eg £70 each way). It's quite do-able, and won't remotely resemble EcoChallenge, but nothing really does. The TV series would have more interesting if teams had had to pay for their own gear, because many would have been under-equipped. But I really wish I'd gotten into it, because that money would have gone a loooong way to the new kit I want ;)
@@fuddam Thanks for answering! I guess that´s the way I will go- use my 'normal' stuff and get smth new every christmas :) Haven´t found that much around europe/germany yet, but that will maybe(?) change after covid
Before Covid you could def find a fair few sprint races of 4-6hrs, but still nothing much before the full expedition of Itera. That's why I set up a company to create 12-36hr races in the UK but it's been sticky trying to get events set up now. There IS plenty of interest here. My team and I have tended to train in the UK but race in Europe.
All of what you'll be talking about would have been great in the recent Eco Challenge. Interestingly the super soldiers don't win the top adventure races.
Yep, so true about the super soldiers. They might be tough but they don't usually operate at that speed. And yes, having the Eco come around has been the kick I needed to get this channel off the ground. :)

Nice! Good luck mate.
Cheers meneer ;)
Great channel. I'm UK also and the scene is pretty quiet. Hard to find a way into the sport in the UK. Any tips how to find teams or get involved?

@@ARonAR those races sound ideal. I'll keep my eye out I guess or if you need some help getting the events off the ground shout. Thanks for responding
