I have a Pittsburgh wrestling story as well Joe. I went to IUP in the late 90s-early 2000s, and I always have loved playing the ponies, so some buddies and I would always go to an OTB in Pittsburgh for the Kentucky Derby every year. We got down there for the 2001 Derby, and were talking about a pre race, and all of sudden this black guy walks in front of my buddy, and my buddy says, "Thats Virgil, The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase's manager." I laughed, because it was such a random comment and person to see, but I looked and ill be damned, it was. Virgil hears this, and angrily says to my friend, "Yeah, and who the F are you?", like a real jerk. A few hours later, I went to bet at a self betting machine, and Virgil was next to me, beating on the side of his machine like a crazy man in front of everyone. I took it that he was having a bad day betting the horses, and was down a lot of cash. It was so loud that security came up to him, and asked him to leave. Anyway, thats my Pittsburgh wrestling story lol.
And one of the first to patent the "Figure Four" leg lock as a finishing gimmick. I know Rick Flair is known for it, but Valentine was the first I ever saw use it on TV when I was a kid. This is WWF days in the late '70s, early 80s stuff. Before the Rock and Wrestling shit started.

I was a teenager back in the mid 70's and I was watching a match on TV with Jim Crocket promotions, when he wrestled Wahoo McDaniel. Greg held the hold not knowing Wahoo's ankle was broken while Wahoo screamed in pain. After about 15 seconds he let go and the medics came in the ring. It was not a gage but they saw an opportunity and worked it into a feud but Wahoo had to wear a cast for about 2 months.

herecomesdatrain who cares Vince Neil was Axl Rose’s bitch. lol
I like Greg’s interviews.
When you realize this interview was filmed in 2000, only nine years after the Mania match. 😲
It’s a 2020 interview.
🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
It says at the beginning of the video, and down below, that's it's from 2000
Lots of crying with laughter emojis
It was filmed 2 days ago during lockdown
It was uploaded two days ago, not filmed. It's an old interview from 20 years ago like the ones they put up with Bad News Brown.
Greg Valentine was great.
I was a teenager back in the mid 70's and I was watching a match on TV with Jim Crocket promotions, when he wrestled Wahoo McDaniel. In a fluke accident he grabbed Wahoo by the ankle/leg and fell backwards. When Wahoo's foot hit the floor it broke his ankle for REAL.
A true wrestling legend he excelled as a heel and a fan-favorite . Shame he never got the respect he deserved from wwe or wcw.
He's not a legend. Stop being a mark.
He looks like my old Gym Teacher. I swear he could be her twin.
😄😄😄
Can also pass for the typical lunch lady.
Hal Stewart Miss Beulah Ballbricker (from “Porky’s”).
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sure it was a she?
A gentleman and class act
The Hammer was on of my favorites growing up Face or Heel always loved The Hammer
Such an underrated performer, great wrestler, better actor, legendary as the mom of the crooks in the goonies
Man come on dude
The consequences of a life in the ring and on the road. Great IC Title and Tag Title run with Beefcake too. Saw Greg at a con a few years back and the years were certainly showing. But someone also told me he recently lost his wife to cancer at that time, and I really felt for the guy.
Love the oldies 👍👍
I'd leave too if my face ever got that close to Earthquake's junk.
"Herb Abrams owes me $2000 and he's dead"....LOL, classic Valentine !!
@@SirManfly herb owed a lot of people Money. He just decided to party himself to death instead of facing the fact that owed everyone money and his wrestling promotion was in the toilet.
Just getting tea bagged by that big man those family jewels must weigh at least 50 lb by themselves.
I respect Greg for doing business that night instead of walking out. Must be hard to do that when you’ve done as much as he had and close to 10 years with the company.
Everyone making fun of Greg's looks, just remember he could still kick all your asses!!!
True he is a stocky muscular guy
These guys are normal. Now wrestlers are all posers. I prefer the old days
I saw him at an Indy match about two years ago. He can hardly walk his knees are so bad.
@sabrina..i wouldn't say they're normal...a lot of them were psychos.. coked up and roided out...thats what made them awesome. Cmon..compare Iron sheik and randy savage off camera to these pansies today.
If I can say something, he still has good hair for his age!
Greg Valentine is a legend. Grew up watching him. Loved it!!!
He didn't quit right after WM7.. He was still around for a mini Mr Perfect feud, lost to Irwin at Summerslam 91 and was in the 92 Royal Rumble match
I think he meant that he wasn’t going to renew his contract. He finished it out and took off. It’s highly unlikely that wrestler would break his contract, especially back then.
Always the greatest in my book.
The Hammer. 🔨
Anyone Remember the I-Quit match, Greg Valentine Vs Ronnie Garvin, classic match, from the 1990 Royal Rumble, highly recommended, if you like or liked wrestling from the past.
Thanks!!
That was a good match. It is easy to forget the undercard from the first few Royal Rumbles, but they produced a few good matches.
@@marman51212 it was a great match. I have it on VHS Tape unfortunately that Tape is in south Asia, lol. I looked everywhere online and can't find this match. Also looked for the Valentine Vs Roddy Piper Bullrope match, wich I heard is an absolute banger but can't find it anywhere.
One tough guy real man
My favorite match w/Him was when he faced The Undertaker back in 91....
Greg is a legit cool dude.
Wow...He’s actually is capable of laughing and smiling. Rarely see that out of him
All people are. I have heard many that worked with him say he was a depressed individual. Honky Tonk Man was the only one that said, "Yes." That's it. The same interview Rick Rude said he was always asleep and that's why Blues was his tag team name.
Hammer has a nice spread... The Double Booked Ranch down in Florida! Luv ya Ham!
I remember Bobby Heenan saying, "After the match they would sing and dance for us." This was when he was with Honky Tonk Man.
Rick Rude is right (God rest his soul), Valentine looks like he's down and drowsy. That's how Rude created the Rhythm and Blues moniker for Greg and Honky Tonk Man.
Valentine used to throw coke parties at his house near Clearwater Beach. But I don't know nothing bout nothing. True story thou
Politic 1 ...Seriously? He did the same fucking thing in Seattle! My dad and him used to hang out once in a while, I don’t remember if that was before after he got famous tho?
@@necron99.aka-sammyboy92 I only speak truths man. Lol
@Western Man I believe so
He's a classic.
cool stuff!
Never noticed how much the hammer resembles the actor guy madsen from kill bill
I got a chance to meet Mr . Valentine in person when I was in Iraq in 2009. The years definitely took there toll on him. He was one of the most genuine celebrities I has ever met. He ate chow with us on our JSS and was very thankful and greatful for the job we were doing and we were thankful to him as well as Jimmy Hart and Brian Knobbs and Traci Brooks and Socal Val for taking time to visit with us.
Brutus Beefcake and Gregg the Hammer Valentine were great as a tag team. I always rooted for the bad guys.
Hammer was always a stand up worker. From what I read, he was well liked .
Greg "I don't do jobs" Valentine
Valentine and Beefcake were my favorite tag team as a kid. I've always been all about the underdog
