Justin Fields' inaccuracy should be 'scary' for NFL teams | Chris Simms Unbuttoned | NBC Sports

I’m confused at what film he is looking at. I thought his accuracy was elite 😂 he rarely missed a ball
You must literally not watch any tape. He’s not accurate against top level defenses
@@Cryptum404 you don't watch any tape either . Clemson , penn state 2019, wisconsin 2019 . You didn't watch tape. This narrative is so overblown 😂😂😂😂. "Against top defenses" that is not true. I have watched a lot of tape myself . I also watched his game . The Indiana and northwestern game literally shouldn't be indictments agaisnt justin fields . Those were weird games where he didn't perform to his usual standard. It's easy to nitpick cause they played only 8 games the whole season . Fields actually struggles to throw short passes at times , but that's a very easy fix. Short passing is more about composure in the pocket . Fields also sometimes shows over eagerness to bail on the play and run instead of going through progressions ( this is nitpicking) I don't blame him , he was asked a lot to run the ball in high school . He goes through his progressions a lot but at times he bails on it too early . Fields at times is big play hungry and at times doesn't check the ball down , even Mahomes does this 😂😂. His accuracy is off the charts , in the nfl his anticipation will get better and his accuracy will balloon up. People after all this criticism will be shocked how good of a prospect Justin Fields is .
@@Cryptum404 well neither was Wilson or Lawrence but they get a pass

Anyone can look accurate in a highlight reel. I wouldn't trust a QB coming out of OSU or Bama anyway. Just look at the history of OSU QBs in the NFL. It ain't pretty. Tua is still a toss up, but it doesn't appear the dolphins are happy if they're doing their best to sell it to us that they are. Hurts has shown promise, but he was drafted out of Oklahoma. Including backups, there are more QBs currently in the NFL from NC State than Bama and OSU combined. Two schools that are basically perennial playoff teams.
He had a 70% completion percentage and PFF rated him as the most accurate QB in this class so idk what he's talking about. And I like Chris and respect his rankings but those are the facts.

Completion % means nothing when your guys are getting 15 yards of separation. You won't get that in the NFL...ask Tua....People are letting other factors influence the way they feel about Fields.
@@Neonator08 then what standards is he using to call on his “accuracy issues” cuz Fields and Wilson were top 2 in the draft class in pass accuracy (catchable balls not just completion percentage)
@@mitchellajieroh Tua had the highest percentage of fitting passes into tight windows in his rookie season this year but would you say he had a great year? Stats can be manipulated. What type of team were the players on? How good were the receivers? Who did they play? Ohio State has had a monster program for years now. Weak college opponents and receivers that get open by 15+ yards can inflate stats and cover over a lot of mechanical issues that will later at the NFL level become glaringly apparent. I think that is the point Simms is trying to make here
@@Neonator08 I’m saying that because people don’t question how accurate Tua is (and stats support that action)

Simms, a Texas QB, might have an ulterior motive for dropping Justin Fields, a Heisman finalist in 2019, in his rankings. The summation of his 9 minute dissing of Fields is that Ohio State poorly prepared Fields for the NFL by letting obvious (according to Simms) footwork and failure to address a flopping throwing arm go unattended. The #1 player in the 2022 recruiting class is Quinn Ewers, a QB at Southlake Carroll HS in a Dallas suburb. Quinn originally committed to TX during the Herman administration but changed his commitment to Ohio State. UT wants him badly and there is every reason for Simms to imply the QB coach, who is essentially Ryan Day, failed to prepare Justin properly. Sorry, Chris, but your motive for ripping Justin Fields' game is transparent and your prediction is as flawed as your NFL career.

I would normally agree but the system the QB is in makes the difference. Lamar Jackson's college completion percentage at Louisville was 58.2%. He was a first-round draft selection (32nd) in 2018. In his rookie season in the NFL, he also had a percentage of 58.2%. He was then named the Ravens starting QB for the 2019 season. In that second year, he would win the league MVP award with only a 66% completion rate. In his third year, he regressed to 64.4% (27th ranked QB in the NFL). After three seasons he has a career 64.0% completion percentage. Pretty much every armchair GM and Head Coach would take him as their QB (Probably a lot of real GM's and HC's). The system showcased the player's talents and hides the weakness of the player. The real question is a team going to completely overhaul their offensive philosophy to accommodate a player (Fields) like the Ravens organization did (Jackson) or are they going to attempt to groom him to their system?
Lamar never regressed; his entire team including his coordinators regressed. His receivers rank 32nd seperation and 31st in yards after catch. This year, lamar completed 64.4% of his passes despite the receivers dropping 7.5% of his passes, the most in the league by 0.6% . He also lost 2 of his 3 TEs. Greg Roman is significantly holding Lamar's abilities back as he can't draw up a good passing play to save his life. His scheme is extremely vanilla compared to last year. The proof lies here

What I am saying is the team has a lot a flaws and they shadow them on the qb and therefore it appears that the qb is flawed even though he's not. I could even make an argument that he'd been much better on a team like buffalo or as of now, Cleveland as their talent level on offense is immense compared to the Ravens.
Fields can throw and is accurately tho
Pretty accurate here
Chris simms shouldn't be there talking about accuracy they got these sorry nfl qb's off the retire market for a opinion man please
He tried to do the same thing with Lamar 🤦🏾♂️
Crazy thing about it is if we draft Mac Jones over Justin fields Kyle should & will get fired but if he draft fields & he does bad I think Kyle should keep his job since he tried with a top qb.. but Mac gotta do good
I agree with Chris. Not because fields isn’t good, but because I want the 49ers to end yo with Jaylen Waddle then trade back into the first for Fields
What is this guy on?
Simms a genius. Fields is butt cheeks
Hahahaha....Goofy!
Fields literally graded as one of the most accurate passers in the country
So? He's talking mechanics which translate more than your Oline and college opponents or top ranked teammates.
@@ibekingape It’s still incorrect. The floppy arm is one thing. He isn’t inaccurate
He reminds me of Kaepernick with how he’s terrible at reading defenses and only looks for the big play, tries to force the big play too often even though it’s worked for him at times.. I love how people will compare him trying to force the big play to Patrick Mahomes who at times does the same thing lol that’s the most wishful thinking you could possibly have..
Fields reminds me of Baker and Goff in a way but kapernick is spicy
I just want to know how Chris van justify a two year top competitor who you are warm on but someone who faces sub par competition and is a one year winner in Wilson I don't want but I'm gonna call white QB bias Chris
Lamar did the same thing in 2019 and won the mvp
No Super Bowl playoff choke artist and can't throw
@@johneaston918 you talking about the mvp?
@@jholmes2351 MVP is overrated just ask Cam Newton and Rich Gannon
@@johneaston918 Cam is fucking legend
Same guy that has Zach Wilson as the number one qb and he doesn’t think Zach Wilson has wide open passes all the time?
What do you think of Zack Wilson's debut versus the patriots
@@TheChicagogamer bad scheme offensively and made unnecessary aggressive throws. It’s fields season
@@MDillonL91 yes sirr 🐻⬇️
Simms is awesome
In the end , there’s less scrutiny for someone that predicts that a player will do bad than good. This is just a personal opinion that Chris is trying to make sound official. If he is wrong about fields, no big deal. I mean all those guys that said Herbert wasn’t going to amount to anything in the NFL still have their jobs, right.
Chris definitely didn’t say that about Herbert
Simms doing his best to get Justin to fall to his bestie at what used to be 12. No longer needed. Lets go Niners!
Sims is wrong again
Always hateing on a black qb
They're krazy
Why does Simms ONLY criticize Justin Fields?
You know why... cough •not white• cough...
Vish!
