It is an absolute joy to see a triple A dev still experiment with creative new ideas.
Capcom has put out most of the best games of the last few years. Can't wait to jump into this.
No they havent😂
@@noth7ing it's ok to have bad taste
Last time they did this in the early 2000s
I'm just waiting for that one MegaMan fan to be pissed at you
💀💀💀
I believe Capcom said in an interview that it's important for them to continue making games like these in order to retain the "Capcom Spirit" in which they keep making creative new IPs along with new characters and ideas like they did in the past, and I'm all here for it this is how new things get established along the way and that creatives don't get bored. Because honestly Capcom can get a bit stale when they only work on Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and Street Fighter.
Exactly.
Everybody always goes ”they should remake this old game next” and ”they should make a sequel to this old franchise”, but so many people seem to forget that if you don’t make brand new games, with new IPs, new characters and new gameplay concepts, we’ll just be stuck in an endless loop of replaying old things with new graphics from franchises established 20-40 years ago.
Those same old franchises were once new and unknown, and the reason those eras are remembered so fondly is because they have their own new games and franchises that were allowed to be developed, and helped define them. And yes, not all of them will be great games; Capcom has just as many forgotten duds in their past as they do classics, people just don’t tend to remember mediocre games (and we tend to romantizice the past). And we can still have some sequels and remakes to classic franchises; Capcom was already doing that in the 90’s & 2000’s.
But we do need more new than old, otherwise Capcom will just turn into a nostalgia peddler, and we’d be robbed of all the great new games and characters they could’ve done.
@@CrossfacePandathank god someone who understands. Every beloved franchise was once a new game. Can you imagine if people were like "Capcom is doing a horror zombie game? C'mon give us a new street fighter"
Yeah absolutely agree with you,I mean yeah capcom have a lot of flaws but I don't want to see them lose that Japanese energy
This. All of this. Capcom is legendary. They used to make so many various games and its a shame they abandoned most of them. It'd be fantastic to see them make more new stuff again like the old days. This is why I love Platinum and Tango (rip☹️) so much. The way they constantly made so many fun and unique games definitely reminded me of old capcom
And here's me thinking about Pragmata 😭
smart business model. all the money from the RE remakes allowing them to fund little experimental games like this
Capcom has always been experimental so I'm glad they're able to do it again
Resident evil isn’t the only game that keeps them around
@@alexism9656Hopefully the resurgence of a Clover Studio style studio. Okami, God Hand, Viewtiful Joe were one of a kind, I'll say, even to this day
You mean all the Monster Hunter money right ?
@@Z50nemesisboth
Support it! Don’t complain devs only release sequels when you don’t ever buy any new IPs
This
No, the demo was lame. I'm done just supporting this company because nostalgia. They used to make stuff I enjoyed. Now they are so far off the mark of the old company I used to love.
I want to support this but the demo was missing something. Idk. Maybe it’s too easy. Maybe it’s the gameplay loop being very simple. After finishing the demo, I wasn’t 100% sold to pre-order.
Gotta wait to see more gameplay. Maybe there’s more enemy varieties or obstacles to face.
might not support this. Im pissed off capcom won't give us a dino crisis remake. They keep giving us resident evil stuff, monster hunter and fighting games.
they need to be GOOD IPs;
in case that needs to be said.
"This is the kind of game you're either gonna ADORE or you're not gonna like."
"I'm kinda in the middle."
Outliers exist for a reason
Max should stick to fighting games instead of spouting random nonsense
@RRRRRRRRR33 whats wrong wuth being on the fence about it?
@@RRRRRRRRR33 I don’t think it’s nonsense. It’s a polarizing concept. It’s micromanagement for people who like action games and vice versa. It occupies a strange place in the gaming word
Speaking of capcom energy, "Shadow of Rome" is criminally underrated and needs a remake.
Awesome game. I don't want a remake but would love a remaster of that. They should do a collection with shadow of Rome and haunting ground, then clover studios collection and a port of asuras wrath
Oh yeah, that was a good game indeed
Max: "This is the type of game that you will love or hate it. I'm kinda in the middle" LoL
I already can say I will love this game, knowing I loved every single weird game experiment back in the PS2 era. Damn I miss games like God Hand. Imperfect, incomplete, but unique.
EVERY GODDAMN MONTH A MASTERPIECE IS COMING OUT I DONT HAVE TIME TO PLAY ALL THESE
- Stellar Blade
- SMT Vengance
- Elden Ring DLC
- This
- I Should play tekken
- I still havent finished FF7
- Persona 3
- Dragons dogma?
LET ME BE
niqqa i still havent beat Returnal, Ghosts of Tsushima, God of war Ragnarok, Stellar blade, my 2nd playthrough of DS3, Destroy all Humans 2, and like 40 more games all the way back to year 1 ps4
probably not gonna get the ps6 at this rate
i feel that pain dude 😂
They aren’t masterpieces grow up
@@noth7ingthat is his opinion.
As someone who translates 1000 year old Japanese folktales on here, I'm interested in this game almost solely on seeing how they implemented really really old Japanese folklore. The fact that the Japanese title uses the very very archaic つ "tsu" instead of the later の "no" in 国つ神 means that they're leaning into some very very old ideas. Fascinating.
So "つ" is an obsolete possessive article? 🤔 I think I just learned something new today! Thank you for the quick lesson. Japanese is one of my favorite languages to study and translate.
@@adrianhendricks772 Essentially, yes. You can see it in things like 天つ風 "the winds of heaven" which you can find in poems, or something that pops up occasionally in anime and games 禍つ (magatsu) "maga" meaning "calamity" or "destruction" so a 禍つ神 (magatsukami) is a "god of destruction).
you learn something new everyday already subscribed would check the videos tomorrow
@@Jaroartx very much appreciated, friend.
Yep, this seems to be the main selling point of this game, the overall aesthetics are super interesting. For weeaboos, fantasy fans, even history fans, etc... artistically, there's something for all those kinds of audiences. However, tower defense is a tough sell, no reason to pretend otherwise. I love strategy games, this is my kind of jelly and I am willing to pay double A money at release ($35 at best), but the sad reality is that strategy games are not really popular...
And just like those super late PS2 era Capcom games, this seems like one of those games that won’t sell many copies at all, but a decade later will be hailed as a brilliantcult classic that most people missed out on.
And after neither this nor ExoPrimal sold well, Capcom will go back to only doing RE and SF games, and people will start to refer to this time period as the era where Capcom dared to be try new things again, even though none of those same people actually bought the games at release.
What I’m saying is: if you want Capcom to do cool and left field stuff like this: buy the games!
For real. People complain about the lack of innovation in gaming industry but they keep buying the same old shit. Me myself already preordered this beautiful game. Also I loved how everyone bashed exoprimal for not being dinocrisis and this and that but at least it was at its core a good and perfect fine game with some bad monetization and then they got suicide squad hahahahaha
@@PauloCesar-oz6dy ExoPrimal feels like a franchise that could be great once it’s gotten an iteration or two to find itself.
It seems everybody who tried it liked the PvE element (and was expecting the game to be just PvE), but felt the obligatory PvP took away from the game. And while I get the devs might consider that a fundamental aspect to its concept, I think a new iteration that only focuses on PvE could be a success.
I’m not saying they should just do Helldivers 2 but with dinosaurs, but I do think that game and its success is a good general template to look towards for a new ExoPrimal game. Personally, I think a PvE game where you level up from zero on each stage and aquire randomized skills and weapons (based on the class you picked) could be really fun. Multiplayer roguelike against hordes of enemies; almost third person multiplayer Vampire Survivor, and maybe with a loot & upgrade loop like Monster Hunter to aquire unique permanent upgrades you can’t find during a run (and maybe modifies the skills and weapons you can get during a run). Sounds like it could be a fun gameplay loop, and they already have base assets from which to build upon with the first game.
Apologies for armchair game dev posting lol. I just think ExoPrimal has a lot of potential if it gets another chance with some new focus. Plus, by the time the game would be ready to release, Helldivers fans will probably be starving for a new 4-player coop PvE shooter, so it could have a potential new audience.
@@CrossfacePanda it's fine, I'm interested in everything design related specially when it comes to games. I agree with you. Personally I liked the PvP elements but most people I met in game didn't. I also think the game had some problems regarding rewards. I was pretty hyped for the weekly challenges, savage gauntlets I believe, but to reward players with only a badge was too bad. Then it came the new suits, and while I liked them I find that they were too expensive in game. Should have been the same price as base muramasa and the other 2. 5000 coins. By the time the next update dropped I wanted to play but was too busy playing other great Capcom singleplayer games I had on my library. And then the final nail for me was the monster hunter event. I played like 9 games and didn't get one rathalos. My takeaway is that they thought we would be playing this non stop. Had they made it a little more casual friendly it would had achieved more success cause the game was really fun and had a good level of depth. It even achieved 1 million players. An exoprimal 2 would greatly benefit of everything you mentioned but I doubt we'll see one. I wonder if the next update is gonna be the last or if they will try to revamp the game
And still no Megaman Legends Collection + MML 3 from Capcom.
@@kamenriderovant9676or star force 4...
Wow seeing Max show off that Chaos Legion box is so nostalgic. Would love seeing that one get a port
I believe I have Chaos Legion. I don't think I played it yet. Too many games in my backlog.
@@joesunday199I beat it. Chaos Legion is the series Capcom forgot.
iirc Chaos Legion and Onimusha 3 had a PC port...
Unfortunately, it is unlikely to happen as they would need to buy the rights to the books again for the sake of republishing or remastering a game that had a rather mitigated success.
One of my old favorites. I didn’t even know Capcom made it back then when I bought it. It was obscure, but I definitely enjoyed it. Would love to see it again, but it’s unlikely due to reasons already explained
Well you have to give props to a big studio still giving their teams the freedom to just make a game they want to make even if it is a risk, so they can stretch their creative side.
The fact that Max flexed both Onimusha Blade Warriors & Chaos Legion is insane! Both of those were my favorite!
I'm actually really looking forward to this game, just because of the fact that no other AAA devs would even consider a game like this (probably), and I love Capcom for doing this, if this is how they will operate from now on, like make amazing AAA games to fund niche ideas like Kunitsu-gami, I am 100% behind them. If players actually like it and buy it, Capcom has another win with a smaller budget, if not, then they don't lose as much, but they gain the fan's support and good will, it's really a win win
Shame switch can't run this game,I'm sure a lot of people would buy it if it's available on switch
TOWER DEFENSE GAMES ARE UNDEFEATED. such a fun genre
"Save people in trouble and give them jobs" This is Social Welfare the game
Reversed "wholesome" terrorism, lol this is a bizarre behavior, I think consumers should support the stuff they like, high quality products regardless if they are "creative", if they are a new IP, if they are interesting in a weird way, etc.. it should be that simple, but here we are
I’m so in bro! This looks sick, love the art and monster design. I am happy a studio as big as Capcom takes on projects like this.
Cool Sleeper Title
This game has a lot of personality, I'm really happy to see Capcom creating unique games again like they used to do during the PS2 era, I can see a collaboration between this game and MH Wilds, the male armor of the main character and the female armor of the princess, looking forward to this.
i dunno why but this game has the vibes of Okami
It's water color painting style they used
It was said by the director that it's intentional that it looks that way.
Oddly, it reminds me of Otogi.
I can kind of see that game play wise. Visual, it reminds me of Mononoke.
Yeah
Something I don't see mentioned a lot:
This is by the same team who made "Shinsekai : Into the Depths" which is a game I had never heard of before (thanks Capcom marketing) that was released on the Switch in 2020. Also looks dope!
WTH that game looks badass gonna try it on the switch never saw review even weird
Princess Defence.
Now that's a term I have never thought I'd ever hear, and from Max no less.
I've been looking forward to this! Thanks for spotlighting it Max!
This is one of my most anticipated games of this year honestly
After demo this is an absolute must-play for me. It's great to see an AAA developers going for fresh and original idea that's also well-executed, isn't a remake/remaster AND it's original IP. Capcom never ceases to impress.
Games like Path if the Goddess and Exoprimal building up the RE Engine asset library will hopefully bring us closer to some classic revivals.
In the meantime, I love the creativity. "Genre defying" seems appropriate.
Chaos legion my all-time favorite never passed it the game broke but it was pretty fun
Im invested i like protecting the village while commanding my team so this my type
Max mentioning that the producer behind this is also the producer of the Resident Evil series now makes me wonder if this started out as some wild "what do we do with Ashley in RE4R" idea that then spun off into its own game
they can totally plaster RE skin with this game. villagers as survivor, the youkais as zombies, the princess as Ashley, and you as Leon
@@retokazene5085 and just for the damned of it, slap the old annoying "Leon Help!" When the enemy got too close at the princess 😂
Yep, the wild results of a brain storm involving the "escort" mechanic. I am almost certain the next RE will feature coop, instead of escorting a NPC, it will be a actual companion... either RE0 or RE5 remake, maybe RE9 will be like this, but it's only a matter of time, Capcom is cooking this for a while (the advanced AI in Dragon's Dogma 2 is another hint)
@@retokazene5085 Aw man, now I want this as a spin off or skin or something.
AAA dev making a game with new ideas is so refreshing, so glad to see it and I will be sad when it will not sell very well.
And then players will say NOBODY DOES ANYTHING DIFFERENT THESE DAYS. (Keeps playing assassin's creed)
It's on gamepass!! I have it installed can't wait to try it! Finally someone is doing something original :)
NO WAY really? Bruh this is great news, I was looking forward to this game, but so many things comming out right now that I wouldn't be able to play at launch.
@@VerGiLL1 Yessir and you can pre-load it. So many games this year, I feel you aha
@@VerGiLL1yessir. It's in there.
I pre ordered. Don't care for anything besides Capcom games the past 3-4 years and have zero regrets. Since we speak trough our wallets I'm making sure they get the message
On xbox?
Glad to have an in-depth look at this game, since every first impression I've seen of the game from people watching the trailers for it, including your own, has been that it just looked very.. weird. Definitely has put it solidly on my radar now, though. Thanks!
Honestly.. Chaos Legion is so underrated and by far, a core memory along with the original DMC and Onimusha in the PS2 era.
The original DMC is still my franchise favorite for that reason. I mean it's a great game all the same, but I just feel like I found it at the right time.
Max comparing Kunitsu and Onimusha blade warriors is wild 😂
I really love when games choose like a who thematic presentation. Like Yoshi's wool world, Black Knight Sword. Ever since this game revealed it looks like an elaborate stage play
I randomly picked this up to play as it was on Xbox's Game Pass just because of its theme. I fell in love with it, it's so weird yet fun. I really enjoy the gameplay loop they went for with the game. Managing villagers, roles, and positioning while being active during the battle yourself makes up for a great time
I think im gonna love this
The okami visuals and the strategy aspects doing it for me
Just announced an Okami collab
Protect me knight. is a video game that this reminds me of.
I’ve had this thought for a while now, but I’m really glad to see Capcom still delivering good games, not only from their main IP’s, but also experimental ones like this. Despite being a big AAA company, we still get quality from Capcom. Hopefully this will remain for the larger future.
Max didn't say the most important selling point for this game. Princess is barefoot ya'll /s
The /s does not save you here lmao
Escort the escort mission.
Don’t type /s, we know you really like it.
/s?
@@NetBattler '/S' is often used to denote sarcasm.
Max is not a tower defense guy! Is basically what he saying butt i definitely love it
Now i need Capcom to bring back Saturday Night's Slam Masters and their variety set will be complete
When max pulled out the CHAOS LEGION disk I freaked out just a little bit
This game has the charm of Vanillaware titles like Odin Sphere, Muramasa and Dragon's Crown. Very cozy atmosphere. I love it.
the thumbnail and title alone are very reassuring in asserting that this game has the vibes i was hoping for 🙏
Totally gonna try this out when it comes out.
can't wait this looks kinda interesting and fun, great video max!
The demo is seriously amazing. Don't know whether it's just me, or I'm being weird but I had so much fun with the demo alone it's my favourite game from the last couple of years I think...
Ooh chaos legion, I love that game.
You fight along with summons
the thing that gets me is i've seen alot of people talk bad about this game, i was fortunate enough to be born in a time where ive got to experience OG capcom and this feels like classical OG ass capcom and i love this game is super super fun a combination genre of games that works together so well
I saw this and it stood out. I added it to my wishlist and now after this video I’m sold! Love how different it it!!!
@16:38 I just got reminded of Gotta Protectors. If you own a modded 3DS or a Switch, look that game up and give it a try. It's hilarious and crazy fun. Also, THIS game is launching on Game Pass. I'm kinda looking forward to trying it out for myself.
I'm pretty excited to try this out.
Yo I can’t wait to play this!!! The era of original and unique new gameplay experiences from AAA developers has slowed to a trickle. I’m so down for this!!!
The dancing the characters do remind me of another Capcom game, P.N.03 (though obviously more traditional). This really does feel like a game from 2002 in the best way possible.
Look man, as someone who likes Tower defense and strategy games that let me particpate in the action I NEED THIS
Played the demo. This game is so fun, and the gameplay is so thought-provoking. I was IMMERSED. It felt like Okami and Pikmin, or maybe Grandia 2 and Wonderful 101. There was something really cool about sending the people you save out to protect you, setting up formations, and being this hero that's both defender and attacker, protector and champion.
The aesthetic is incredible too. I'm really into the world and I definitely felt like my actions had a huge effect on the environment. I felt like I was playing some hidden gem. Gotta pick this up when it comes out.
I absolutely love these kind of NPC-centric action tactics games, didn't even know of this before and I'm immediately sold
This game was very creative and absolute a treat for a gameplay. It was fun playing this game back then.
The game seems mad fun, I absolutely love that experimental and creative feel about it
what the hell, this is pretty cool. We need alot more of these inbetween the big ones
I didn't expect for Max to be into this game. But this definitely on my list.
Us: Hey Capcom, can you make Okami and Onimusha?
Capcom: HELL NO! ...But what if we did both at the same time?
Us: Okay...
Capcom: And it's a tower defense.
Us: Okay!? Yeah! Wait, what just happened?
Might have to pick this up
Holy shit, Chaos Legion is one of my favorite PS2 games, sign me up
Day 1 purchase. Seeing a new Capcom IP brings me great joy. Now let's just hope pragmata is still happening 😅
I love that this is a Triple A dev making a smaller scale game! It looks pretty fun
the excitement I had seeing this game first revealed was so refreshing because of just how different it is & how beautiful it looks, I'm so incredibly stoked for it & I feel it's an absolute hidden gem people are gonna miss out on
I think this is a very cool concept and I'm glad they are trying new stuff. It's probably not gonna be for me but I LOVE the style. Hope that main character gets into some kind of crossover fighting game at some point.
Looks really creative and different! Might give this a shot after Shadow of the Erdtree
I randomly came across this game last week and holyyyyy shit where did this come from??? First AAA I'm buying on release in all of 2024.
I cannot wait for this game! This game pique my interest when I first saw it announced and now seeing the gameplay and how it works makes me even more excited to get it!
Wait so that 1 mode from monster hunter rise was a test for this game?
Less a test and more that they found there was sauce in it they could expand into its own game.
rampage mode sucked lol😅
Rampage mode was the worst part of Rise. There was zero sauce, I don't know what that one guy is talking about.
Interesting, never played Monster Hunter games... so this new game is like Captain Toad
Stong Okami vibes here, nice. I love the music and the artstyle already. Shame that the camera is so far away and doesn't seem to be free.
This is why I love Capcom. I tried it and absolutely loved it.
June 18th 2024… Classic Capcom has indeed returned. This game looks very cool too! 😆
Damn, Chaos legion!!!. That`s so Nostalgic I almost forgot it!.
I knew nothing about this but now that I know I am intrigued
An original idea? I'm here for it. Looks pretty.
Ive been interested in this game ever since we saw it. I’m 100% getting this, so far I love everything about what’s here, I think there just might be things that should be tweaked so it doesnt become ridiculously tedious. I could see this being a sleeper hit, I love strategy games and things like this. Adding the action portion, and the entire concept of a whole makes this look really sick. I’m rooting heavy for this game
This is actually really cool. Super unique
Such an intriguing game, will get it in the hopes they do more experimental stuff
I absolutely loved the demo, did every little thing and replayed each stage few times, can't wait for the release. This is the game that deserves to be seen and bought, it's just so beatiful. I strongly felt the ps2 games era spirit in this one.
I'm not usually one to play tower defense games but this one definitely peaks my interest.
this one is my GOTY 2024 so far, it feels exactly like a ps2 game, it reminds me Chaos legion + Freedom fighters + pikmin, fucking love it!! we need more of this type of games
One part of me is loving how unique and zany and ingenuitive this is. Another part says, "An entire game of escort missions...FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFU"
On the top of my Wishlist! I so miss Clover 😭😭
I'm actually super interested - Tower Defence + action gameplay is one of my favorite genres. I love stuff like X-Morpth Defence or Orcs must die
I'm pumped for this.
I'm super interested in this and am so glad Capcom made it. It looks really polished. I'm looking forward to it!
This looks pretty dope! Definitely would like to give it a shot
Onimusha was the first thing I thought of when you said "Capcom-y" and I almost shed a tear when you pulled up "Blade Warriors" 😭
The demo sold me. Stoked for the full release
Naniii??
Def gonna give this game a shot on Game Pass.
I am an Absolute. Sucker. For games like these. I'm the sort of guy who pre-ordered Okami for the PS2, and that's like one of the only games I've pre-ordered in my entire life. Will definitely be checking this out tomorrow when it drops!
im hyped for this game. We need these doubleA games or smaller games from big companies.
I was intrigued when they revealed it but now I think it looks like a really fun just kind of turn off tune out and chill game. Going to check out the demo this weekend. Love when you showcase games like this for us and explain it.
I played the demo and was pleasantly surprised with how enjoyable it was. Definitely want to make a full purchase soon as I want to support developers that take risks and don't make the same copy paste crap like 80% of other developers have been doing these days.
Can’t wait for this game!
