I love KoW, and really liked their Historical version of the game. I'm really hoping they'll release an updated version of that rulebook. Meanwhile, I'm building some carthaginians with "mythical" units to play KoW 3rd as elves or humans :)
never played kings of war and only played a song of ice and fire as my only rank and flank game. This game intrigues me! im especially intrigued by the hobby aspect as i was told you can use any miniatures you want.
I'm using my lannisters as basileans. I rebased an entire core set and got quite a few units out of it. I'll use starks as varangur or northern alliance later. Compared to ASOIAF tmg this game offers much more variety when it comes to army building and unit selection. But the units Feel much less vital individually since you have more units on the table Play length is very similar since kow play faster despite having more moving parts.
Large Infantry regiments no longer unlock anything (including "troop" options). Large infantry hordes allow you to take 2 different types of the following in any combination: hero, titan, monster, war engine and up to 2 "troops".
Kings of War is a great game and is my main game now! Game plays very fast and smoothly and even as new players you will know everything that's going on.
Can’t wait for more Kings of War. I have been inspired to start an army! Probably Abyssal Dwarfs, or Northern Alliance. I love the look of both armies, and always wanted a Chaos Dwarf army in Warhammer Fantasy Battles.
Love the models! Personally, I'm not typically a huge fan of games with no interaction on the opponent's turn, but I understand the appeal for timed tournaments and avoiding slow play.
"What do you need?". I need that Giant! Oh and paint a few hundred models to play, I guess KOW Vanguard will be played again before that happens. Looks great with the real armies though :-)
Remember, what matters isn't the number of models, it's the size of the unit base. As such you can take a big ol' base for, say, Goblins, and put a handful of trees on it and some scattered Goblins moving through them, and it's not only 100% legal but it is in fact strongly encouraged by the devs.
You don't get hindered for charging through your own units. You cannot charge through your own guys but the order you do it usually allows you to get all units in. So if the Bruiser moved first into the Giant, the trolls would have been fine to charge the Ogres
Thanks for the video. The game is not my kinda jam (I will stick to skirmish games) but I like miniatures and your play throughs so watched the whole video.
Was waiting for this ! Such a great game and great coverage by you. 👍 I heard rumors about a French version coming on KS. I hope it will be a thing and the game become more popular here.
Game looks amazing... Getting to work on my own goblin army as well for KoW. What's the model that Chase is using in his Mincer Mob? Looks very mincy...
Thanks for a GREAT vid! Was waiting for this and you delivered. Believe that even if Wavered you could’ve Disengaged and Changed Facing so you wouldn’t need to offer the flank to that Legion of Gobbos the 2nd time around. Also hey should’ve been Hindered as well since it would’ve been a fresh Charge and they were still technically on the fence. Finally, Grock is just totally bad@$$...!
heroes are their own units. normally you put them either behind your main lines or between two units to prevent them from getting charged, and shooting units have an automatic -1 to hit them(unless they are large infantry).
looks cool, but the rules on flanking seem a little open to abuse. I'd probably houserule something similar to house Hail Caesar does it, where you actually have to start with your leader facing the flank in order to get the flank.
I've just gotten in, personally I believe you absolutely do, and if you have an existing army from another fantasy system, it likely has an equivalent. I'm using my undead units from AOS for the undead army, and I went halves in the new starter box for northern alliance from their own ip. Because of preferred model count, each unit only needs 75% of the total models represented, so units stretch further and have more room for creative basing. If that wasn't enough to tweak your interest, the rule book holds all main army listings, so no need for an army specific purchase, and it costs way less to get into than the GW equivalent.
Great video as always and you can see that you guys really enjoyed the game. I think KoW is not the game for me. It looks like the WHFB but without the fun things. But i can clearly see the appell of the game for some people.Have fun with your games :)
I'm buying 3rd edition im 40 , brings back fond memories of warhammer fantasy , Abysal dwarfs look fun or gobos
This Let's Play showed what I love about KoW. You live and die by the movement phase.
I am so pumped Ash! I am a Kings of War fantatic, and I found it through your old videos with Clarence! I'd love more Kings of War content!
Heck yeah! I’m coming up on a bender and playing KOW, AoS, and lord of the rings one day! Lifelong dream to visit my man Ash!
Armies look great! I love the Kings of War content!!
Seeing those mantic giants next to the gw ones finally puts them into perspective... fuck dats big.

Yep, any minis you like. Just have fun and be creative!

The charge pivot can be taken at any time in the move, so those trolls could get in to the Ogres fine.
The Troll Bruiser can Inspire himself too so may have held up the giant longer
Yes! Please more kow 3rd content.

The Ogre's attacked by the Legion could have changed facing when wavered so they were facing the Goblins.
Lot of fun to watch! I really enjoy your videos!
The long wait is over! Kings of War has returned to GMG!
Praise be to Grokagamok!
Can't wait to see more KoW content
every time I watch one of your battle reports I end up wanting that game. For most games anyway. Thanks for the great reports and fun videos.
Love the models! Personally, I'm not typically a huge fan of games with no interaction on the opponent's turn, but I understand the appeal for timed tournaments and avoiding slow play.
caimheul Gives you plenty of time to drink your coffee and consider your next moves!

Starting Nightstalkers army. Really great game, great fight and very informative... Thanks.
It's great to see how much the rules are improving. Super exciting game to watch
this looks like a good game, very much like old wfb
It's good. I've played it for a few years using my two WFB armies (Tomb Kings and High Elves). It works quite well.
Love seeing Kings of War stuff!
"What do you need?". I need that Giant!
Oh and paint a few hundred models to play, I guess KOW Vanguard will be played again before that happens. Looks great with the real armies though :-)
Not with an ogre army
Maybe 100 models, less the more monsters and large infantry you add.

@@Ankhtowe But they also have a minimum model count per unit
This is the only time I have seen goblins lose, spectacular show, lads.
Always enjoy some high quality battle reports for KoW!
Those spinning bases are sick, nice idea

Love KoW! More please!
Giggling away at "This could be the end of Zombie Shakespeare.". Top work as per pal, more Simpsons quotes please!
[desire to rank'n'flank intensifies]
Grok! Name of my very first 1/2 Orc Barbarian back in the days of AD&D... ahem... the real AD&D! (1977 Anno Domini).
Spinners are really cool, nice touch; the giants look awesome..... Although are they really "miniatures" at that point? :D
Would love to see more of this kind of content.
I’d love to be able to make it! The pandemic has certainly put a damper on being able to play big games like these!
Grok's gonna give it to ya! Grok's gonna give it to ya!
Looks like the giant and chariot missed a sneaky flank charge on the horde, instead they charged the regiment in the front...
Ash your Giant had Fury so it can always countercharge.
Was waiting for this ! Such a great game and great coverage by you. 👍

I thought Large Infantry regiments no longer unlock?
Yup that’s a slip; just Hordes and Legions at a reduced rate. :)
What's the stegosaur lookin mini with the trolls?
SOO many open flanks goblins just did not take!
where did you get those giant Mini's, they look super cool.
Mantic!
Thanks for a GREAT vid! Was waiting for this and you delivered.

Sorry, I'm new. Do heroes never go inside units like they do in WHFB? If not, doesn't that make them easy to snipe?
heroes are their own units. normally you put them either behind your main lines or between two units to prevent them from getting charged, and shooting units have an automatic -1 to hit them(unless they are large infantry).

Riley O'Steen That is actually the rule in KoW (You have to charge the side which your leaderpoint is in).
The spinner is great. Magnet to magnet?
You got it!
Love the giant models. Where are they from?
Mantic makes them!
Kow finelly! Ogres are Coolest! Watching ur games i got my own Ogres army! GO OGRES!!
FINALLY!
Ugh, I really don't need another miniatures game...or do I?

Large Infantry Regiments do not unlock anything when it comes to army building, only Hordes/Legions.
are they still making this game
lol yes, brand new halfling army.
Your ogres look lovely! How’d you paint the skin tone? I think it would fit mawtribes perfectly!
Old Dark Flesh blended up to Bugman’s Glow!
We put up the houserule that you roll for your own units nerve. Thanks for the battle report. Always looking forward to these from you
37:20 all ogres have brutal
goblin player could have fired his Mawpup launcher into the legion in combat!
idiotproofdalek that would have changed things a little for me :)

Never sure if I like Kings of War or not; it's fast and easy to play, but the tracking of damage is too much of an abstraction for me.
Woho!
Finally
Subbbed.
I love this fantasy battle games, but i can´t play games that dont have defense dies, i like to roll dies a lot. Great report though.
Jhoelgrox - Well, there ARE defense rolls, but your opponent rolls it. I actually like this system where you roll lots of dice on your turn...
@@Cavalier92 Wow, didn´t see that, gonna check the video again
