I’m a grandma (63) and wear my Doc boots from 1980, my mj’s from ‘84, my Jadon’s, my 1460’s, loafers, etc. They aren’t timeless so much as they are just me. I don’t buy faux leathers, I buy vintage real leather pants/skirts/shirts/jackets and have them tailored. My “granny” advice is don’t put clothes in the dryer and never underestimate the value of a slip under your clothes.
@@slaymaster01 yes of course! Wearing a slip allows your clothing to glide over your body. They make unintentionally sheer clothes more opaque. As someone who hates shapewear but definitely has a few lumps and bumps, a slip gives me a smoother shape. It makes clothing feel and look more expensive, it also stops clothing from getting baggy (especially pants with a pant slip). A slip can also extend the wearability of a piece through multiple seasons, adding an extra layer of warmth for the cooler months. Oh, they also provide a layer of comfort between you and a less comfortable fabric, especially if you have sensitive skin.
@@busibutheleziAlso slips stop the skirt fabric bunching in between your legs when you walk if it's a very full skirt :) (Although I don't bother with them in summer)
Last year I started a ritual for myself where I go to the thrift store, shop like normal, fill up my cart with cute things I like - and then leave everything behind lol. It was hard at first but after you do it a few times you realize there is always good stuff at the thrift and you dont have to get caught up on the "I'm never gonna find something like this again" because you probably will!
What’s helped me is buying one thing at a time . Don’t worry about paying for shipping , if you only really like one thing … trust you will save $ and there will always be something you want in the future .
It's so interesting how you said you feel you need to do your hair & face to make the outfit look good, I feel like I'm the opposite! I can never wear sweats in public aside from like hiking 😂 But I NEVER wear makeup, most days I dont even brush my hair lol but I get compliments on my outfit/appearance all the time! And I feel so much better if I have a cute outfit, I dont bother doing makeup though. I have no time with my 2 kids and I'm not even good at it 😂
Yeah I'm always like, I'll NEVER go back to skinny jeans. But I'm keeping my best pairs, bc 1) you need them for tall boots with jeans 2) I'll probably change my mind lolol
Lots of good points! I relate to the never say never one a lot. I think as we are younger we don't experience time the same, like we don't know what 10 or 15 years ago feels like so we kinda just see the here and now. But when we're older we realise that life has many ebbs and flows, you know how much you've changed in the last 10 years so you know you're gonna change again :)
Not me boasting about my current outfit…When you mentioned not to wear everything new all at once in an outfit. I have bought new pants and new top, but my belt is 90s vintage and my boots are a few seasons ago from Poshmark. Yay I’m doing it correctly! Lol
i have to say something, i but 90 percent of my clothes 2nd hand however my jeans are all zara because i don’t wear my thrifted jeans because usually there is something wrong about the fit
Girl you went to GVSU? The fact that we could have been friends 😭😭😭 no one at that college had style so for you to have gone there is BLOWING my mind lmao
Always love your videos Laini! The never say never rule really hits close to home. I've done some closet clean outs and still regret getting rid of a few pieces. :') I try to keep pieces I don't wear a lot in storage now
Thank you for explaining nothing is timeless !!!! And that’s ok , but I just hate when people tell me my loud pieces are not timeless. It’s like ok I am aware . You can’t avoid looking dated who cares ?! My mom said she regretted her hairstyle for her senior picture bc it looked dated … and now that I’m her age when she said that I’m like what a stupid concept , I love looking back at old photos and seeing how dated it all looks that’s fun
I think it's especially hard when all the trends are so based on body type too and it makes it hard for people of various sizes to feel good in their clothes like if you're beautiful according to western standards, you're gonna look good in anything... Nothing against you personally but it's definitely an important factor to consider

You sound like the coolest grandma
what are the benefits of wearing a slip?
Can I ask why a slip?

I like the advice against hauls. It reminds me of the principle to never grocery shop on an empty stomach. Moderation is a virtue!
Pieces are not timeless, your style is. Loved that!

I do this too! I feel bad paying shipping but I'm so happy when I receive my item and its exactly what I wanted without over doing it.
So right about some basics not being "timeless"
This is why I love you Laini, your advice is always 'don't buy clothes and love what you have' and it's so refreshing

There's no "doing it correctly". That's the point.

we can all get hypocritical when justifying purchase or style choices but we are so not exempt from trends and outside influences.

Getting older is realizing that "fashion" and what others think is so useless.
