- Xabi Alonso will NOT be taking over from Jürgen Klopp as Liverpool manager.
Despite interest from both the Reds and Bayern Munich, the Spaniard confirmed on Friday that he will be staying at Bayer Leverkusen for at least another year, leaving Liverpool to seek alternative targets, including Sporting CP's Rúben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton and Hove Albion, who visit Anfield on Sunday.
Klopp has issued a positive injury update ahead of that game, as Liverpool prepare for a sprint to the finish in the Premier League title race 🔴 - Спорт
Its a shame that Xabi won't be coming but we move on. Personally always thought he wouldn't be coming and i prefer Ruben Amorim as for football massive 3 points are needed against Brighton
It’s a pity, wish that Alonso had publicly indicated his intention to stay at Leverkusen 1-2 months earlier. Hope that Liverpool has done its proper research and drawn up a very shortlist of potential managers to take over from Klopp and move fast. 🙏
Maybe a blessing in disguise.... It was too soon and you never know the job might have been too much for him. If Xabi is settled, fair play to him. If he wins the league a couple of times, my guess the pull to Spain will be our challenge...

Remember he went to Holland to manage a 2nd division side a couple of years ago, he didn't do too good there! Pep L needs to manage some clubs so we can properly assess his abilities

Ruben Amorim is slowly growing on me as a successor. Dunno why but, if nothing else, he's cited as a great man-manager and also as good with the fans as well...

Fair play to Xabli seeing out his contract. Bit strange thought if a year from now he goes to Madrid given he's only going to have one more year of management experience and the level of ego he'll have to deal with there is going to be interesting to watch.

xabi clearly wants the Real job then. Never getting a better opportunity to come in than now. Don’t buy the nonsense of its hard to replace Klopp. Of course it is, but you’re coming into an incredible squad who have one at least one trophy in the prior season. Perfect time… he turned us down. What makes me the most nervous is that Liverpool play their cards very close to the chest and the prospect of our next manager being someone unknown could very well happen.
Neil, is Thomas Frank out of the picture completely? Early on he seemed a dark horse for the job, with Alonso now staying any chance he could come back in to the thinking?

I have an awful suspicion that he's decided not to consider us because he's been told already that funds aren't going to be as readily available as he'd probably want. Though that's only due to the fact that we've not exactly spent like a drunken sailor since FSG arrived, and XA plays a different style to Klopp so would probably need to meddle with the squad a tad more than suits Michael Edwards.
