Classic TD42 outcome. So many of us have been stung by these fork lift motors. Me, twice, more fool me!
Its clearly had a very hard life and been battered. 480K km's of P plater goofball ownership, I'd have a few cracks and be hot and bothered as well.

I'm restoring a GQ the same and I find this fascinating. My previous GQ overheated and I rebuilt the engine for $8k then it was stolen.

The piston that looks like something has been in there, looks more like steam erosion holes.
If there is rust in the bores, and if the pistons are cracked from water sitting in there when it was started, it may also have a cracked crank and possibly bent rods, although you can half check them from above. money pit comes to mind.
I got my td42T bottom end rebuilt by Steve at Maroochy cylinder heads, cost me $4000 that was clean and dissasemble, full kit for rebuilding including sleeves and pistons and cam was honestly a great price

TD for sure.. each to their own but I just can’t get into 4JJ1’s or 4 cyl diesels for that matter… sure, you can ring their neck and get power but they sound like a wet fart.. do nothing for me. On the other hand, get plenty of power out of a TD, reliable and they sound absolutely mental, turbo with a decent exhaust.. just my opinion..

If ya pull the water pump off the new motor check the clearance between the back of the impeller and the block as they wear/ corrode cause water pump to be super un efficient and causes the kettle effect haha

I still don't get it. Swapping a 6 cylinder engine for a 4 cylinder engine just does not add up in my brain. Glad a TD went back in. Good luck

My 90 series prado had the same problem with the head. It's a common problem with the head on the 1kzte

I was all about the ls swap but seeing the gu 4jji that gold one in the video has made me kinda like the turbo diesel now lol also roam lyfe what mods have u done to your 4jj1 my car is a s3 tb45 auto keeping auto but want mods for 4jj1 motor for power and limi like yours
