“Divine Proportion” could Rivian designers ask for a better compliment?!?! I agree with Sandy, somehow they managed to make the boxy designed we’ve seen in the G class and Jeep feel fresh and new again. Great job Rivian.
This is actually what the Jeep Wagoneer was planned to look like before the designer left... to Rivian
I have to agree with the proportion comment. Not only is it aesthetic, but useful. The closest “competitor” in my humble opinion is the Range Rover. The Defender 110 looks great, but the 3rd row is useless. The Defender 130 is too long and looks like a raised station wagon. The departure angle is also ruined by the 130. The R1S nailed the proportions.
Agreed. "Devine Proportion"
@joemichele5412 What kind of blasphemy are you implying? 🤦
The true Engineer has spoken and cast away the shadows with enlightenment. 👷
What kind of architect are you that don't cherish the First Principles of Engineering? 😱
Don't tell me you're an accountant, then we need to call the exorcist. 🧙♂️
"Divine Proportion" is a very specific mathematical concept, and for sure Sandy knows it and applies it in his judgement. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_ratio
Congrats Sandy on being a grandpa .. excellent review of the R1S.
Thank you kindly!
Tip: The "V" on the tail gate (in "Rivian") points to the open latch.
Too expensive 4 most Americans
@@BB-sf7jv Like most luxury brands, their target audience isn't most American's.
I ordered one. This vehicle is just the best all around mode of transportation for me!! Thanks , Sandy!!
Nice town car, have fun on a road trip from hell. Charging is a nightmare.
You just threw your money away....all of these small electric car makers will be out of business once the bigger car companies get in the game....Rivian and Lucid will be first to go.
Not Rivian when Amazon owns a large portion of the business and has a huge vested interest in the van. Worst case scenario is Amazon buys them out.
@@SigmaDG That is what people said about Facebook who just lost $10 billion and FTX that lost $2 trillion.....
@@chadhaire1711 what are you even talking about with 10 billion and 2 trillion. FTX losing 2 trillion? You talking the whole crypto market where people invested into 1s and 0s on a computer? Of course that vaporizes to zero. That is all together different than actually building and making a physical tangible product.
It sounds like the R1S is a superlative SUV for comfort and off-roading. Interesting combination.
Pretty squarely targeting top end Land Rovers imho, should sell well!
Congratulations Sandy and family on your newest member. Glad mother and baby are both well and doing great! Welcome to the world!
Sandy has mentioned his off-roading. The R1S is a more capable off-roader than the R1T (same power, shorter wheelbase with better approach and departure angles).
True but R1T has a full-size spare built in. None of them are perfect as is.
The air compressor built in should help with the spare tire problem
@@alamandrax Not sure what you mean. would the compressor turn the inflatable into a proper off road tire?
@@Tooradj you can plug a tire and use the onboard inflator to inflate it
@@TonmoyGhosh I have done that many times but all of those flats were on road. A lot of off road problems are with sidewalls.
Corey seems in much better shape than when I started watching Munro videos, if my mind isn’t playing tricks on me.
Nothing like seeing yourself on UA-cam to get you to the gym.
Yeah.. He's getting thin in the neck.
@@MarkXHolland this is cold but oh, ohhh so true. 😅
Yeah, real difference. Was used to his prior physique, but I'm happy for him. Keep it up. Hopefully he can stick to his diet.
Cory looks hungry.
You guys forgot to grab the sub trunk cover and prop it up on the lip provided and it makes the FLUSH with the back seat. Better for storage and sleeping!
I noticed that also. I didn’t know there was a small cover to level that entire back floor.
I’ve never considered myself a “car guy“ but truthfully everyone who drives is a little bit of a “car guy“ because at some point you have to be knowledgeable enough to choose your next vehicle. Your series on the model three brought me in years ago and I absolutely love the channel. Just wanted to say thanks and also the best part of this video is one Sandy gives a shout out to his grandkids.
Finally an electric car manufacturer that puts a spare tire in there! Even if you aren’t going to change it yourself, it means that AAA can come out to change it for you rather than dealing with having it towed for just a tire
I’ve always been impressed with Sandy’s videos, however I am deeply impressed by the fact that he’s an adoptive parent! That raises him up past the top in my opinion! Congrats on the new granddaughter Sandy and Sue!!!
This vehicle is an absolute winner. Wicked Sharp execution for a new company, masterfully engineered first generation vehicle. Can't wait to read about how well their Amazon vans will perform this holiday season. Rivian's future looks bright.
Rivian and Lucid will be out of business once the large car companies get in the game....LOL....you won't be able to give a Rivian away...
@@chadhaire1711 agreed. The cost per making a vehicle for Rivian is around $210k, and the average selling price is $81k. They’ll burn their cash really quick and go bankrupt unless Amazon or some other stupid company is willing to take it over.
@@gammaknife9933 Perhaps facebook and FTX can take them over.....LOL.....!
Congratulations Sandy for your lovely newborn granddaughter.
And thanks for this amazing R1S presentation.
Really enjoying the show, watching it get better on a s curve and think you may have to copyright yourselves as a enthusiastic Sandy is gold to any product. Really appreciate the powerful critique of FUD as regarding reality to ev transition.
Congratulations on becoming a Grandad
Thank you for brief Rivian overview and congratulations to the whole family on your new addition.
I have a 2020 Tesla Model 3 with chrome and I actually prefer it to the current black-out trim. All of the past cars I've owned with black trim fade annoyingly after a few years. I'm happy to hear that I'm not the only one, Cory! 🙂
Xterra has great tie down rails in the back too. And we have an Atlas and the best seat is the third row with the second row folded down. It’s like a limo back there!
Your right Cory , in fairness it does look gorgeous. Just about perfect. Kudos to the body designer from Rivian job completely aced. !!!!
Got my own R1S in September, and I love it!!
Your way of doing first impressions is more insightful and deep than most car reviews i have seen
Useful tip! To find the back door open button, the V in the Rivian logo, points right to it.
Congrats to the Rivian team! Excellent work.
Another fan of the chrome- whether satin or shiny.
It’s one of numerous reasons I love my 2019 M3P.
Would I like one of these Rivian R1S?
Hell YES.
Corey is looking lean, fit, ready to tear down anything and anyone. Big change from first time I saw him on here.
He was always insanely attractive, IMO.
It's those new jeans !!!
Give me a couple of moving blankets and I would not think twice about loading that up with plywood. This really is a very well thought out vehicle.
I’d need moving blankets just for the moving blankets! 😂
I love this thing! It is quite an exquisite and modern design that works well. Beautiful.
Congratulations Sandy, another member for the family!👶
First time finding your channel. Subscribed and really enjoy your content.
Welcome!
Congratulations Papa. Nice job reviewing the Rivian
The chrome conversation merits a lot of points on both views. Good job.
Personally I like the chrome trim in this application.
R1S is going to explode on demand specially with the help of Tesla Charging network. People will appreciate Rivian’s engineering team. This is work of art definitely getting one now!
When Sandy says “RS1” 😂
Love the intro, thumbnail and good vibe overall. Keep it up :)
Thanks, will do!
6:35"...the roof would disappear into the window...": As it does with the back window. You have it both ways. When I was a kid they said "if it don't go, chrome it". Later, that became "if it don't go, put racing stripes on it". I'm amazed at all this Munro attention to styling. Styling is personal...engineering is not. With engineering, there is a right answer.
I'd buy it just for the rails....Sandy is like a kid in a candy store!
😂
Some owners have complained that the battery performance is poor, especially in cold weather conditions.
Love this vehicle, and that color is defining. Saw a convoy of four of them the other day, real head turners.
Sandy is why we sub to this channel, good to see!
I'm curious to learn how the quad and dual motor versions compare off-road. Especially if the dual motor one gets a smaller (lighter) battery.
I love the split gate on my X5, one of the main reasons I've had two of them.
Am a R1S owner since Sep... LOVE the car!
Is the phantom drain as bad as some owners and Reviewers say it is? Not comparing with Tesla but comparing with other EVs like Kia and Lightning.
@@Tooradj the phantom drain loses about 1-2% a day; however, if you consider all those electronic devices going on while the car is not being used, I'm quite understanding why. With a 130 kWh battery, it really doesn't bother me.
@@BeanEW Sounds like a good fit. The important thing is that you enjoy it. I don't drive much so for me, it adds up to a larger percentage of my use. They definitely look great inside and out. Enjoy it.
Sandy looked "as happy as a clam" in the rear seat 😂
Nice one guys! The rear boot with the clam shell door and the cargo rail sliders.. BMW X5 E70 is the originator.
Split tailgates were the norm on Australian wagons - Holdens (GM), Valiant (Chrysler) and Falcons (Ford) - since the early 60's (what it's worth).
Sandy - you should try access to 3rd row in a Tesla Model X - it is SPECTACULAR. Better than any car ever. The Falcon Wing Doors mean you can stand inside the car which makes access to 3rd row super easy for adults. You can literally stand up getting out of 3rd row... same for seating down.
Any reason why you would think that he hasn't done that already? MX isn't new.
@@MadMadOne Sandy claimed it's easy to get in/out of the R1S rear seat when clearly it is not - just look at his face and body when he gets in... clearly, he has not tried MX 3rd row.
He checked out Dirty Tesla’s refreshed 6 seater model X in one episode… can’t remember if he got in the 3rd row….
I really want one of these. A legitimate value compared to some of the other SUVs in its price class.
I really like that color. The new Bronco has a similar color. I like the features of that Rivian.
The discussions of a 'budget" R1S is worthy of consideration. If you looks at the off road capabilities of the platform you can see there is an opportunity to sell into the "Pro" market where the vehicles could be used in the mining, exploration, forestry, agriculture and industrial sectors. When I worked in exploration we used Suburbans because a lot of our geophysical gear needed protection from the elements. I can also see this vehicle being used in an underground environment to transport miners, maintenance crews, electricians, geologists, surveyors and environmental technicians.
I just took delivery of a R1S love it
3rd row is a must for families. We looked at them all and got a Traverse because the third row was the biggest. Wish Tesla would make an affordable three row family hauler.
We also preferred 2nd row captains because it’s super easy for kids to just hop in and access the third row from between the captains chairs.
Exactly. We have a expedition max, captain seats and it has plenty of room, much needed for families and with cargo.
I wonder how the Rivian handles the traditional way of locking differentials, spinning all wheels equally. Should be very easy to do with 4 independent motors.
Do they have a setting for this, does it work this way automatically when you turn it into off-road mode? Does it have an equivalent of being 'triple locked'? (front-center-rear)
Congratulations on the grand baby Sandy. Nice vehicle too.
@17:40 Corey’s idea. I’m dying!😂😂😂😂
Thanks Muro team, hope you had a good Thanksgiving Holiday, Turkey Sandwiches for lunch today!
Same to you!
Man, now you are making me think about switching my R1T to and R1S order. I will continue to follow you on UA-cam, never going back to the Twitter hot mess.
I'm skeptical on 6' people in the 3rd row, but it isn't bad. As far as the mechanism to get in the 3rd row, looks similar to how Acadia/Traverse/Enclave/Outlook/etc., works. I think the best options out there are those with 2+2+2 configuration as the aisle in between the middle 2 seats make it easy for people to stretch out in the 3rd row. Also makes it easy to get into 3rd row.
With that said, this definitely looks nice and when we get rid of the Model X will be looking at this.
Normally I'm not a fan of product advertisements, but Detroit Denim looks interesting, will check that out as well.
Hey Sandy and Corey thanks again for another realistic viewpoint of the new Rivian. I was wondering if you fellas would start taking apart old Model S of 2013 14 15 to help us see how the battery is holding out? The Motors? and the undercarriage to see how long they are lasting? I would really think that looking at older Teslas would be eye opening for many. Just a thought. Thank you again fellas.
Nice review of the Rivian R1S Sandy and Cory.
Great video and great vehicle!! Can’t wait for mine!
congrats grandad Sandy , loving the channel here in Ireland support local and support green its a win win
Congrats to Sandy for his new grand baby. 🎉
They posted a time lapse video for the Ocean production line from Fisker/Magna, could you guys go over that in slow motion and see what you think?
I agree with Cory on the chrome. I have a 2018 M3 with the chrome and I think it pops!
I agree. My ‘19 Model 3 is chrome too. The worst is black trim on a white car, looks so cheap. The new ones remind me of my old ‘92 base model Civic.
We seem to be in the minority
@@chipspaulding1371 It’s lonely at the top. 😎
@@petebremy49 😅😅
That spare tire is great, I have known Peeples vacations, including one of ours to get pretty messed up due to a flat tire. And I don’t want to put that goo inside the tires.
It still can get messed up. The spare has limitation on how you use it (speed and distance). It is meant to get you to a place you can replace the tire. I am not sure how quickly you can get the tires that are built for Rivian. Your Vacation still can get ruined. Unless you are taking an R1T on the vacation with a matching wheel in the back.
I would like to hear driving dynamics since some reviews say the S is not as good as the T. Would appreciate Sandy’s view on this.
I own a R1S and have driven an R1T as a loaner for several days. I got to drive both vehicles in the snow and dry pavement. I drove both back to back, where 1 particular UA-cam channel had months in between the two. The truck did feel a little bit better to drive for some reason, but no where near the difference that one (normally trusted) channel made it out to be. My guess is they had more time to dial in the driving dynamics on the truck, which can get tweaked with over the air updates over time. But again, very small difference, this machine is amazing to drive.
Reminds me about my old 2011 Volvo V70, it also had a an aluminium rail for securings things in the back.
Did you ever use it? I don’t understand the need. It’s not like I would carry a salvage small block engine back there. It’s a waste for 95% of us and should be optional.
What a gorgeous van almost a van at this point. we have a Honda Odyssey and we like that thing has very good amount of space but not as fancy that’s for sure I think this is going to change the van SUV market because this is really good for people with powered Wheelchair chair with that 4 strap tiedown That’s a really nice Feature
Honestly, before I even saw the ad, I was thinking Corey's jeans look good. I might try them out next time I need a new pair. 👍
I like that chrome strip!! It demarks the roofline!!
The Thumbnail was brilliant!! Made me giggle and click!
my father used to have an armstrong sidderly sapphire that had jacks next to drivers seat and passenger seat built in... I thought that was quite an interesting item..
My Oldsmobile mini van that I owned around 30 years ago had an air compressor! And now it is bragged about on a $90 thousand vehicle!
Hell;they should’ve come out with the SUV in the first place. I love it😊
CONGRATULATIONS SANDY on your lovely new Grandchild. And yes that Rivian does look amazing. CHEERS AND SAFE TRAVELS Steve h.
An 'A' from Sandy speaks volumes.
For off-road, the on-board compressor lets a user empty air to soften tires, then refill to highway specs when leaving.
Looking forward to the car seat portion of the R1S. Stay at home dad here with an order.
Reasonable first impressions. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
@@MunroLive Oh, you folks provide fascinating reviews and important information! Wouldn’t miss these videos at all. Thanks again for doing these!
Some of the features in the cargo area that they discussed as being expensive and only high end vehicles nowadays came standard on my base model Pontiac Vibe 15 years ago
Sandy described the rear seating configuration as a new “benchmark”. LOL!
Right, this has to be paid for
Can you do a video showing the car seats in tandem rear facing? Would love to see how you would have 2 rear facing seats and load the other seats with kids as well.
Cory is nice
And Sandy’s precise
Munro’s live! We gotta watch twice.
Sandy Clause is coming to town.
(Please?)
Fantastic video! Great job!!!
Thank you very much!
I love the R1S and R1T I was amaze at how much I like it when I don’t like trucks because they don’t fit in the city. But the R1s is a beauty wish it was 50K or less I would jump on it stat.
Great video, thank you.
I think Sandy should do more first impressions to get the Sandy Approval for everyone and familys when the wants the best in class expereince
Sandy cracks me up. He's so smart and has such a massive well of knowledge, but he can be so scatterbrained sometimes. It's very humanizing.
Mr. Sandy, Jaguar - Land Rover has been using those hook rails in their tailgates for years now! It's a factory option and they cost about £115 (per pair including 4 hooks).
Have a reservation on an R1S when you compare 3rd rows can you compare it to a Subaru Ascent? That is what I'm looking to replace and feel this would be a cross-shopped vehicle.
CONGRATULATIONS! on the new 👶
Great video, thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Would love to see content with Munro employees showing and talking about their own personal vehicles.
Mercedes had rails in the trunk of the e-class station wagon (series W211). But I don't know whether optional or not and I don't know whether they continued with it in the successors (w212 & w213)
"I'm standing in front of the Rivian RS1..." -- CUT!! 🤣
Looks excellent, especially for the price. However, I still wonder about the economical viability of producing this in masses. All the feature costs add up.
I'm in the market for some new Jeans! I will definitely check them out!
Congrats Gramps! Great video, vastly informative 👍
Thanks! 👍
The storage rail tie downs are common in BMW X5’s. They are great. Glad to see it on Rivian
Yep my 2010 x5 has them standard
I'm a heavy haul flatbed driver actually and I saw some of those trucks in Baltimore at the port quite a while ago just sitting there waiting. I took some pictures and send it to my brother, The ones I saw had a weird color scheme actually.
As a R1T owner, I’d love to hear from Munro their opinion on the horrible wind noise on these trucks. IMO It comes form the small triangular windows next to the mirrors that are not flushed, and trims around the windshield with no flushed trims. Please suggest anything!
I’m with Corey - like the satin chrome 😘
