Rivian does seem to get the EV market. I would go with the dual motor long distance battery. The 2 motor is fast enough. Would rather have more range. Getting one around 60k would be fairly reasonable. My concern is still range and charging infrastructure. Will probably get a 4Runner Trailhunter. Maybe in 5-10 years these will be more practical for long trips and towing. Hybrids or PHEV's seem to make more sense for now. EV's are getting better every year.

Agreed, EV are most expensive…but if this had a gas engine, it would be a bargain. Show me a ICE equivalent (saying this last comment in a friendly tone). Any vehicle you mention I will find a shortcoming either on or off road compared to this. Not to mention that once you go ICE, you would give up it’s storage capacity, it’s durability (my R1S comes with a 175,000 mile warranty that includes the battery), “fuel” economy, the convince of not getting oil changes or going to a gas stations. If this didn’t exist, I would probably buy a Toyota Land Cruiser. Other options might be a Chevy Taho ZR1 or a Defender 110. All three of these have so many compromises that Rivian R1S doesn’t.
Owning a R1S it feels like they fixed everything I had issues with; suspension noise, offroad torque being used properly (it never felt like 800hp offroad with wheels up), as well as the 12v issues. Its a bummer they shrunk the frunk and made the large pack smaller though

Andre, while the rivian is not class leading in overwall range, it is class leading in efficiency for getting you 420 miles with that size battery. Chevrolet EV trucks are stupid for using a 220+ kw battery in order to get just 30 extra miles. That's gross profit, not net profit.
"Rivian also affirmed in recent months its goal of positive gross profit per vehicle by the fourth quarter. The startup has said its path to gross profit per unit delivered is primarily by reducing material costs, along with regulatory credits and other efforts."
I think overall it's a pretty good looking vehicle, but those oval lights on the front are just horrible. I also don't care for the glass roof and the 20 inch wheels. Definitely way better than the hideous cybertruck.
But can you turn off all the nanny stuff and just hoon the thing?? It would be a shame if you couldn't. The things I'd do with an 850hp 4wd...

Just an FYI, there is no such thing as "Level 3". Its Level 1: 120V, Level 2: 240V and DC Fast Charging.
Amazing
Electric trucks are like a novelty to me. Useless for me, I must say though Rivian by far is my fav
Love your open mind to Rivian , but curious of why EVs are “useless”? Do you haul long distance? If so, then I completely agree with you, but looking forward to Doge’s new truck. I think they are taking the right approach to address that, and I’m so happy it’s an American company 🇺🇸 that’s forging the way to that use case.
But did they put a glove box
No. :(
Rivian has been doing great work. All i want is a 2 door long bed version and I’ll drop the $$$. Cybertruck looks awesome but the price is ludicrous mode…
Andre be smok'n some good CO weed!!!!
How many years do you have to keep it to actually make it beneficial for the environment and for your wallet for savings on not using gas?
Usually about 1-2 years for the environmental benefits, and 100k miles for the money savings.
Where I live, electricity is equivalent to $1.50/gallon gas.
I wish Rivian would redesign the price…
Would love to see an actual off-road test, as opposed to this thinly veiled ad.
We will be getting these in Colorado soon for proper off-road testing.
Andre, while the rivian is not class leading in overwall range, it is class leading in efficiency for getting you 420 miles with that size battery. Chevrolet EV trucks are stupid for using a 220+ kw battery in order to get just 30 extra miles. That is horrible efficiency, and thats why I'll never get one nor will I'll ever recommend getting one to anyone, not even towers.
Just too expensive. Great for rich folks. Hope they make money with these and survive.
So now EVs that didn’t need oil in the past (one of the main advantages), now use oil in the motors? That is hilarious. What is the oil change interval and what type?
120k on current models. Not sure these new ones.
It’s oil cooling, so not quite the same. ICE vehicles operate at a higher temperature, hence the need for oil changes. High temperatures in an EV are typically less than 150C.
Oh great, another video where we have to listen to the word ‘architecture’.
