The world's northernmost hotel is located in Svalbard, in the Arctic Circle, where polar bears outnumber humans and roam through the streets freely! We travel to this intense environment in the hope of ticking off two huge bucket list experiences - to see the northern lights and to experience the Polar Night, where there is 24-hour darkness!
In this video, we make our way to Svalbard where we stay at the Raddison Blu Polar Hotel - the world's northernmost full-service hotel!

    ⭐ About Travel Beans:
Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Alex & Emma, a British couple who have been exploring the world together for over 10 years - from backpacking to vanlife:
2012/13: We both embarked on our own solo backpacking trips through Southeast Asia, where we would eventually meet at a hostel in the mountains of Thailand and begin traveling together. After a year and a half of backpacking around Southeast Asia & Australia, we returned home and to the corporate world!
2015: Travel Beans was born and we filmed our first videos on a road trip around Europe with friends! This was our biggest trip yet.. and you can go back and watch the entire adventure because we filmed ALL of it! This trip took us through Russia, Mongolia & China, on the longest railway journey in the world. Followed by highlights such as staying on a local island in the Maldives for a month, going on safari in Sri Lanka, couchsurfing & hitchhiking in Korea, seeing the snow monkeys in Japan, island hopping in the Philippines, trekking 60km through the centre of Myanmar, exploring the Indian Himalayas, and checking out some of the incredible US National Parks.
2016: Despite an unbelievably memorable year and a half of travels, which we were incredibly grateful to have had the privilege to experience.. we found ourselves in New York City, battling depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on.
2017: After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle. We left the UK with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a continuous travel lifestyle happen! We both got online English teaching jobs to be able to fund our travels and to keep creating videos. We can't quite believe that our younger selves decided to take this plunge but we are so grateful they did as we are still on this journey today!
    What now?
Over the years, we've discovered that we LOVE road trips and even decided to renovate our very own little VWT4 van into a campervan to be able to enjoy vanlife and spend more time on the road. We are now the proud owners of 2 awesome little campers - one based in the UK and one that we keep in the USA. You'll often find us using one of these vans to explore Europe and North America. If you enjoy this kind of content we'd recommend checking out our Italy Road Trip series, USA vanlife series and our Japan in a Tiny Van series as well as our UK vanlife content.
Our time spent overcoming depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. We love sharing the highs and lows of our trips through our videos and hope to spread a little positivity and light to all of the beautiful people who take the time to tune in and watch each week!

Norwegian here! Did you enjoy Norsk breakfast and did you like brown cheese= Brunost? I like Brunost best with marmelade/Lingon berry/Tyttebær on top ;) All these snow hills beside the roads, you can use as a fun slide for Noah and yourself! Since no cars or very few ;) Be playful together with your baby, and it will be good for children everywhere! Thanks for giving inspiration to go there!

The static electricity happens in northern climates a lot during the winter months, because the heating is usually on 24 hours a day. And the humidity is sucked out of the air, then we need to use humidifiers to replace the moisture. I live in the province of Quebec in Canada and we spend all winter trying to put moisture back in the air and all summer trying to take the moisture out, because it is so humid.

According to Cecilia, very few people are born on Svalbard as there are no maternity facilities. Most folk only there to work short term (5 years max) as it’s a very harsh environment. Great to see a visitor view as Ce has been there a while. ❤🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I love how you two light heartingly complain about stuff and laugh at each other and at the stuff that doesn't quite work out during your adventures. I find so many "UA-camrs" are all about never making mistakes, showing how they did everything perfectly and know it all. But you two are real people and show the good, the bad and the hilarious. Thanks for that. My husband and I travel, not full time, but for 2 or 3 months at a time and then chill and get that itch again and have to get back out there. And stuff for us is the same ups and downs too and we crack up about it all.

UK viewer here, been following you for a cpl of years now and love your videos and you both with your positive attitudes and then little Noah becoming part of your family. No matter what life throws at you and you have had some huge/traumatic moments, being scammed, vehicle burning you both always look on the positive side & don’t create drama for more views & are open about your feelings good or bad, not like some van lifers I followed in the beginning but soon realised they like to play on people’s kindness & compassion to feel sorry for them for their own mistakes (monetary gain)but not anymore. (Those Happy Days) who claim to be van lifers but live in B&B’s on their travels, I don’t care if people don’t like me mentioning the drama queens/click baiters/entitled human beings. I stopped following because everything was a big deal, when it really wasn’t it was just to get peoples sympathy and views. You are both literally a breath of fresh air and I look forward to your adventures. Much love and respect for genuine people ❤

You went to Tromsø! What a nice surprise to see you visiting my home town, thank you 😍 The darkness of winter in the northern hemisphere can be depressing even for some locals, but it teaches us to appreciate light and enjoy the particular colours of the polar night. When the sky is clear there can be beautiful light even in the darkness.

I'm such a trailblazer, I went to Svalbard 20 years ago! To be honest, I'd never even heard of it until I was planning a trip to Norway and I kept seeing flights to Longyearbyen coming up as a destination on the airline websites, so I did some research and decided to go for a few days! I actually stayed in the same hotel as you, but back then, it was called the Radisson SAS. The difference with my trip was that it was in August, so during the time of 24 hour daylight, which was fine as the hotel had blackout curtains. It seems to be a lot more geared towards tourism these days, though.

Visiting Svalbard is a happy memmory. Short distances within the town. From the hotel to the the shop is just 200 meters - takes you a 2-3 minuttes run. If you want an adventure I would really recomend Svalbard Villmarksenter, they breed their own sledge dogs and have decades of experience living there and hosting. If you really want to see what it is like to live at Svalbard go to Cecilia Blomdal's vlogs. Food and clothing is very expencive due to high transportationcost. Food in Tromsø is also more expencive than i southern part of Norway. We have 15% taxes on food and 25% taxes on other items. But alcohol an sigarets are free from taxes on Svalbard. It is worth going there! Being Norwegian and living in south-east I find Svalbard being very excotic.🥰

Thank you for the amazing videos! We are also looking forward to Noah's first "Beans Out!" outro! Also, I believe most of the residents take vitamin D3 supplements (or eat lots of salmon/cod) which helps as a mental stabilizer. If you don't get enough sun, or eat fish, then it's definitely worth getting some or at the very least checking your levels.

Lovely to see you in the polar night AND with Noah which is lovely. I saw the polar summer a few years ago which was amazing, not sure I’d deal well with perpetual night if I’m honest! Emma you look really well, well done, not that you don’t Alex, you do 😊

Nobody is born on Svalbard - it’s illegal! So fun to see you guys on Grim’s island 😊 I hope you get to meet Cecilia!

We have a husky cross, and he’s the most gentle dog I’ve ever come across, which is saying something as we’ve always managed to acquire dogs with a good temperament. It’s even more remarkable in that we found him abandoned on a river bank. You’d think that would affect his trust in humans. We initially handed him in to the dog rescue service, just in case he had accidentally got lost, not only did he not have a collar, his chip was still registered to the breeder.

I was in Finnish Lapland during the Polar Summer and I couldn't get used to the sun never setting! But at least I got to enjoy all the scenery with all of that daylight.

Ahh I'm sad that your trip coincides with Cecilia Blomdahl's trip to her mom's house in Portugal. I would've loved to watch y'all meet. 😊 Have a beautiful time! Watch those polar bears!! 🙏

We were in Narvik, which is barely in the Arctic circle, in June, so we experienced the midnight sun. Really appreciated the blackout blinds in our apartment!

Who else thinks Alex just booked a holiday to the place with the most darkness just to avoid having to wear sunglasses for a week? 😅

doing ok. Sending much love ❤❤ from the Love Beans Jim, Harriet and Yuki🐶
