The Longest Journey games never got the attention they deserved. I remember finding the original game by complete accident and randomly decided to give it a go, and I’m soooo glad I did. I don’t think I’ve ever been so attached to a game’s story or characters the way I got attached to TLJ. Also, you don’t understand how great it was when Kian came out in Dreamfall Chapters. It was sooooo rare for a game to have a character come out as fully gay, and not just little homoerotic nods and queerbating. But not only that, he’s a strong hero and not some flamboyant stereotype to laugh at. Every time I go back to play the games, it’s like the first time all over again. We need more games like this.
I have to say, while the puzzles were frustrating at times, I really enjoyed the game and it's ending. It was a well crafted story with strong characters and I appreciate that.
I started with this game and fell in love with the story, characters, and most of all, music. I had to stop part way through the final chapter because I felt like I was missing too much not having played the previous games. I went back and played the first two (with puzzle walkthrough tabs open) so I could appreciate the story. A lot is built upon, but a lot is left behind game to game. Dreamfall Chapters changed my life and it brought me so much joy to watch this video. Thank you!
The 1st game is absolutely masterpiece of beautiful story and full of character from the worlds created to characters themselves. The second one is taking a very different twist, feels distant with references from 1st and co-relations and characters. The 3rd brings so beautifully the 1 and 2 together making so much more sense and clearing so much confusion. This series will forever be in my top special games for me.
I have to admit that it was quite challenging to understand all the intertwined details. The story is complicated. But this is why I love the 3 games and why I wanted to explain the story to everyone who is confused or interested
Yes it is! And to think that all this started back in 99 or so... It is amazing! Plus, the company has done an exceptional job, even though it is not as big as EA etc.
well, finally after 14 years I get a satisfying conclusion to the game series i first played in 2006...yes, I only played the second game, which REALLY DIDN'T HELP !
The second game is a lot of fillers and background storyline that have connection with the first game but are very far apart. It's definitely worth playing the first game and the 3rd that really brings so many answers left blank, the 3rd did a fantastic job to make sense of a lot of things, it might have still its own confusions but it's a amazing closure
Amazing game amazing videos. One thing you didn't talk to much about though is Cortez. Yes he died at the end of the first one but if I recall correctly if you wait at the end of dreamfall you find out he's still alive 🤔 still working on this game. But I would like to know about what happens to him
First off thank you for this great summary! I guess I had too much of a gap between playing part 2 and 3 so I didn't appreciate all the throwbacks in 3. But despite this I am still disappointed in how 3 ended up, both in story and game play. I think it would have been better as just a movie. But anyway glad that the story is finished and at first it was like Season 8 of GOT but now I admit its not that bad. Just not nearly as great as 1 and 2.
Thank you for your excellent summary. It seems there were real world compromises imposed on the games to make them more marketable to a changing gaming community, as well as Ragnar Tornquist re-working the games to fit in with a revised overall story. The Nazi metaphor seems heavy handed. And Crow's death seemed the most gratuitous. Do you think the story would have worked differently (better/worse) as a single game, rather than the episode format?
Yes, there are multiple alternatives in the game, but in the end, the outcome is always the same. Zoe will always end up in Arcadia and become a Dreamer, i.e. a God. This made the summary much easier for me.
Just finished Chapters. Sorry, but I still think TLJ was the best of the three games. Dreamfall was an emotional downer and Chapters was messed up in places. Apart from the nazi-esque treatment of the magicals you mentioned, the unconvincing way some characters are brought back and Westhouse transforming from being friends with April and Cortez to his Hitler role (which doesn't really sit well with his dialogue in TLJ) to mention but a few issues, Arcadia was created to be the world of magic with the Guardian protecting the balance which did not happen so some major plot lines just seemed pointless.. Btw I hope you got yourself settled and you will make some more gaming videos. The TLJ videos you made were superb.
Yeah i can understand the Guardian basically not doing his job even after april checked up on him in the second game. The westhouse reveal was actually the best reveal in the three games in my opinion. It was kind of obvious in the second game that he had a motive to return to stark since thats where he lived and he missed it. Him trying to cross but couldn't and that's where you found out that's where he basically had the undreaming injected in him in the second game it ties it all in for the reveal. It made since why he told the azadi to kill april in the second game as well because he knew april from the first game.
I'm a huge fan of The Longest Journey and even Dreamfall. Been an adventure games fan since early 90s. I don't like the last installement, it's way too messy and heavy and not in a good way. I feel like the creators took themselves way too seriously and ended the franchise in process. Also the fact that those who bought the game on day one for PC had a totally different game experience than those who bought it on PS5.. I really wish we could've gotten The Longest Journey Home instead. If anything, Dustborn really proves the devs abandoned fantasy genre completely and live in a weird bubble now. I miss House of Tales and The Adventure Company. Even the creators of Gabriel Knight series are still hoping they can make 4th game next year.
Loved the previous 2, hated this one, hated the 3 characters story I couldnt care less about Alvane and Saga came out of nowere and felt forced. Zoe waking up from coma suddenly was really bad too.
Well, some people like it and some don't. I personally liked it, because I had the lowest expectations. After the sad ending of the 2nd game, this was a bit different and unexpected. I like stories where I cannot predict the ending.

Just wanna say brother, thank you SOOOO much for explaining this game!
First game in 1999 and the last one in 2014. it took 15 years to complete a story now that is a "Longest Journey"
I have to say, while the puzzles were frustrating at times, I really enjoyed the game and it's ending. It was a well crafted story with strong characters and I appreciate that.
Thank you for these summaries! They're very clear and they have helped me understand the story and the connections between the games much better :)

If only they made a real netflix serie about this...
oh man... imagine
7:04 Actually Zoe can work or can study again at the university.
Great game, and great summary! TLJ saga is great!
Indeed, there are some choices that alter parts of the game. However, the outcome of the main story ends up always the same :-)
I prefer the path in which Zoe studies again.
Thank you for this summary it helped me to understand better the story of these games
Thank you so much for this! Love all 3 TLJ summary videos that you made.
Thank you for this recap

thanks for the summary , only played the first 2 but couldn't continue with the third but this was just perfect for me to give closure to everything
Thank you so much for making these videos! You have helped me understand even better three of my favourite games ever!!!

Came here after their new game dustborn.

great job done!

So what do you think, was the story always planned that way or did they just made it up alongside the devolopment?
Thank you. I started he first game in 2000 but never got past the island with the rotating totem poles. Now I can have peace knowing what happened.
Damn, I played this game twice and missed like half the plot points. Thx my man.

Radosław Maurer. Polecam ;)
You know you could have chosen a better way for Zoe to live in Europolis without working to a criminal, don't you ?

i gave up TLJ when they swapped April out for Zoe. thought it was going to be like Kingdom Hearts 2. Such a disappointment.
