I live in the Upper Midwest and the closest reputable breeder to me sells their hedgehogs for between $225-$300. I'd definitely say location has a lot to do with pricing.

My hedgehog was £90 just to buy her and around £200 for all her stuff. She is a very healthy hedgehog with no issues. I will only take my Hedgie to the vets if she is very ill because I can’t afford yearly check ups.

That's not fair to her. So if she did get really sick you'd probably have to have her put down since you are doing good just to go to vet once a yr. That's just wrong. She could die because you admit you can't afford what she needs.
Instead of getting an expensive cage you can go to your local store like walmart or target and get a large storage container/box and set up a cage in there as well.
Lucky you! We start at $300+; and feel delightful for getting them at $275, but normally, it's $300 to start. You sorta weed out the serious buyers. They aren't going to throw $ around to a zoologist, which is worth the cost for me. I have raised many an Exotic pet. It does not pay to buy from someone who doesn't know what they're doing. I've got experience to lean on, so it's easy for me to pick who I will buy from. Who I will sell to. There has to be set rules in purchasing. It just makes SENSE, doesn't it? Somebody better be responsible when you are selling, I want to know they can handle a hedgehog, and they know the rules. Some may get upset, but just imagine if you buy that baby & haven't clue one on what to do once it's in your home. I can't nurse you thru it, but I WILL help as I can. I have a list. If they can't fulfill that list, it is likely that they are not in a position to buy. They held one, fell in love w/the looks, and the glory of them, but forgot about the maintenance. Its a good thing, don't get me wrong. but, don't sell them to someone who is buying on a whim. They'll love you for warning them... remember you when they are in a place financially to commit. So, be honest right up front. Prep your clients. Also, don't buy from a Breeding fool. has 20 mommas having babies and selling them to whomever walks into their store, or home and has the cash to buy , then get home & "Uh-Oh! Where are they going to sleep? Play? Bond? ToyS? Food? Uh-Oh!! I wouldn't be able to live with my conscience if I did that. It's wrong for the baby!! They come first!! They also must be handled a lot before you sell them. They love to be handled, and that is the favorite part of owning a hedgehog. Teach 'em about " Baby Love"!! Handling them. I do NOT recommend you sit beside the cage and watch them for a week. Get in there and begin petting, pick one up, for a tiny bit, unless they want to be with you longer. I am a new hedgie mama and I would say that to save at least $300-$350 minimum makes sense, and then it could go up exponentially from there. I was lucky and had a lot of unused fleece from past craft projects. So that was one cost I didn't have.
I'm in canada. Hedgie was $225. I spent about $800 total Canadian. That's for everything... hedgie, cage, toys, heat, food, bedding, wheel. I got special pads for the bedding that don't smell. They are called peapod pads. I'm sure you can just use fleece and something underneath. But in the long run the peapod pads may be cheaper since you don't need a pad underneath! Initial cost is expensive but should be fairly cheap for upkeep after that. Vet visits are a different story

For any arizonians.... There is really only a couple places in Arizona that sell them. They can range from 199-250 dollars. (for the hedgehog alone) And the cages can also be 199-200 dollars, including everything, So about 400-500 dollars will be spent on hedgehogs.
My cousin in Israel has 4 that come to eat with her cats. They love organic protein flakes. They only come out when her cats go to the garage and they eat. THEY STAY AND THEN LEAVE AFTER THEY HAVE EATEN. They eat in a raised red plate.
my total came to about 335$ because i got a bin cage and a wheel from a store that had them on sale! everything was good for them and yea! im really happy i calculated it:)
Where i currently live, The average price for a hedgehog is about ￦80,000 (roughly about $75 USD) so a hedgehog here with a full setup is about ￦160,000 or roughly $150, Supply wise a decent sized bag of hedgehog kibble is about ￦7,000 or about $6 and bedding is about ￦15,000 or $12 then the decor and hides vary anywhere from ￦6,000($5) to ￦30,000($25)
Thankfully I don’t have to worry as much about a vet fund (though I still will have one as when I get my hedgehog I may need to take them to a different vet in an emergency) as my vet has very reasonable prices. I checked with them and it’s only £15 for a check up or a consultation appointment (not including any treatment which is still priced reasonably)
I have spent 300 easily already, and I didn't pay for the hedgehog or the cage he came in, those I got when I adopted him off a family member, and I still NEED to get a few more things like a thermostat, hand warmers, a water filter, etc.

If it seems heathy, should I still do it? From your video, it sounds like it's not something you do, so I'm curious if regular checkups are necessary.

Can you train hedgehogs to use, like, hamster balls so they don’t get lost in your home? I was originally worried about my cats attacking them, even in a ball....until I got a hamster for Christmas and they just sort of acted like, “oh, look, she adopted more family members.” But now I’m just worried about losing it if I let roam. Although, my dog Georgie and my cat, Nala, would never let that happen lol but it’s still a little bit of a concern for me.

I’ve been asking for a hedgehog for about a year. They’ve told me no (my parents) but haven’t given me a reason why. They just like them. I have saved up enough and still no. I have done all the research and still no. I’ve begged and NOOO. I really love them and have anxiety so I have read they will help with that. I have two Guinea pigs that don’t like me very much and they take care of them and I want to prove I’m responsible. What should I do to convince them and do you think I should keep trying?
In my area/breeder who seems reputable they charge $150 for males and $175 for females but the older hedgehogs are less expensive but I don’t see any of the hedgehogs I want since the one I want is on hold by someone else but I probably won’t get a hedgehog :(

do breeders ask for I.D when buying a hedgehog ? we live in Georgia but we’re 5 minutes from the Tennessee border and have access to various exotic vets if needed . I just don’t want to put down a deposit and be refused when I go to pick him/her up because of our address . and no I would never let the hedgehog out plus as far as i’ve researched african pygmy’s couldnt make it through winter .
I got mine rlly cheap cause the owner found out it was my birth day he was 299$ but she let me get him for 75$ but with all of his supplies it was 140$
Well in my case: The Hedgehog $150 The cage $68 The food and water bowl $2.50 each Igloo $8 Paper bedding $11 PVC elbow $5 Running Wheel $27 Royal Canin baby cat food (small bag) $6 Dried mealworms $7 No heating set up because I do not need that. *So that brings a total of $287*
The breeders in my state usually range from $150 for older hedgehogs and $250 for female hedgehogs in particular. The cages I’ve picked range from $75 to $170. Usually the higher ones that I find include stands, which I like but don’t necessarily require for my house. Just a personal preference. Cage supplies aren’t too terrible in my opinion but again, it’s personal preference for brands, styles and extras that you want. I write lists like CRAZY. I know I’m blowing about $250-$300 for supplies alone.
Yeah, I would be concerned transferring any small pet from house to house weekly, honestly! You could maybe make it work, but I think it would be a pretty stressful situation for a pet.

Annual check ups are fine, some people do twice a year, but I don’t think monthly is necessary.
wow hedgehogs cost a ton in the US. in Asia, particular in Vietnam they only costs about 10-12 dollars at least. and all of them are very healthy!

do breeders ask for I.D when buying a hedgehog ? we live in Georgia but we’re 5 minutes from the Tennessee border and have access to various exotic vets if needed . I just don’t want to put down a deposit and be refused when I go to pick him/her up because of our address . and no I would never let the hedgehog out plus as far as i’ve researched african pygmy’s couldnt make it through winter .
Just out of curiosity, can you use a hamster habitat for your hedigie? The ones with all the tunnels and different rooms?

No heating set up because I do not need that.
*So that brings a total of $287*
Dont feed any royal canin. They contain corn and meat byproducts, not suitable for hedgehogs.

The breeders in my state usually range from $150 for older hedgehogs and $250 for female hedgehogs in particular.
The cages I’ve picked range from $75 to $170. Usually the higher ones that I find include stands, which I like but don’t necessarily require for my house. Just a personal preference.
Cage supplies aren’t too terrible in my opinion but again, it’s personal preference for brands, styles and extras that you want.
I write lists like CRAZY. I know I’m blowing about $250-$300 for supplies alone.
That hedging is sooo cute. So my parents are divorced and I move every week between them, would a hedge get stressed out if moved every week?
Yeah, I would be concerned transferring any small pet from house to house weekly, honestly! You could maybe make it work, but I think it would be a pretty stressful situation for a pet.

You might not respond but I was wondering if I could make a Hedgehog cage out of like an old clear tote (like one you would use for storage in your house.not a colored one that you can’t see through) and then just add everything it needs in it. I’m getting a pet hedgehog for my birthday in January and I don’t want my parents to spend so much,I would feel bad about it
$460 dollars? No way! Chewy.com and Craigslist helped me save hundreds of dollars. I spent a little over $120 for all of my hedgies supplies, including her food/litter, tub, and heating set up. My hedgehog herself cost me $125. That's around $245 dollars, estimating. Nearly half of $460!
