A breeder gave me my Sunkist for free because nobody wanted to buy her. She's albino but she's blind and has deformed arm and honestly, it broke my heart that people only love the "perfect" ones. I love my baby soooo much. She's so strong and beautiful 💕

I live in the Upper Midwest and the closest reputable breeder to me sells their hedgehogs for between $225-$300. I'd definitely say location has a lot to do with pricing.
Definitely! A lot of reputable breeders are increasing their prices as well, to be sure they are selling their hedgehogs to serious pet owners.

Instead of getting an expensive cage you can go to your local store like walmart or target and get a large storage container/box and set up a cage in there as well.

I'm in canada. Hedgie was $225.
I spent about $800 total Canadian. That's for everything... hedgie, cage, toys, heat, food, bedding, wheel.
I got special pads for the bedding that don't smell. They are called peapod pads. I'm sure you can just use fleece and something underneath. But in the long run the peapod pads may be cheaper since you don't need a pad underneath!
Initial cost is expensive but should be fairly cheap for upkeep after that.
Vet visits are a different story
My cousin in Israel has 4 that come to eat with her cats. They love organic protein flakes. They only come out when her cats go to the garage and they eat. THEY STAY AND THEN LEAVE AFTER THEY HAVE EATEN. They eat in a raised red plate.
I am a new hedgie mama and I would say that to save at least $300-$350 minimum makes sense, and then it could go up exponentially from there. I was lucky and had a lot of unused fleece from past craft projects. So that was one cost I didn't have.
My hedgehog was £90 just to buy her and around £200 for all her stuff. She is a very healthy hedgehog with no issues. I will only take my Hedgie to the vets if she is very ill because I can’t afford yearly check ups.

That's not fair to her. So if she did get really sick you'd probably have to have her put down since you are doing good just to go to vet once a yr. That's just wrong. She could die because you admit you can't afford what she needs.
Thankfully I don’t have to worry as much about a vet fund (though I still will have one as when I get my hedgehog I may need to take them to a different vet in an emergency) as my vet has very reasonable prices. I checked with them and it’s only £15 for a check up or a consultation appointment (not including any treatment which is still priced reasonably)
my total came to about 335$ because i got a bin cage and a wheel from a store that had them on sale! everything was good for them and yea! im really happy i calculated it:)

Lucky you! We start at $300+; and feel delightful for getting them at $275, but normally, it's $300 to start. You sorta weed out the serious buyers. They aren't going to throw $ around to a zoologist, which is worth the cost for me. I have raised many an Exotic pet. It does not pay to buy from someone who doesn't know what they're doing. I've got experience to lean on, so it's easy for me to pick who I will buy from. Who I will sell to.
There has to be set rules in purchasing. It just makes SENSE, doesn't it? Somebody better be responsible when you are selling, I want to know they can handle a hedgehog, and they know the rules. Some may get upset, but just imagine if you buy that baby & haven't clue one on what to do once it's in your home. I can't nurse you thru it, but I WILL help as I can. I have a list. If they can't fulfill that list, it is likely that they are not in a position to buy. They held one, fell in love w/the looks, and the glory of them, but forgot about the maintenance.
Its a good thing, don't get me wrong. but, don't sell them to someone who is buying on a whim. They'll love you for warning them... remember you when they are in a place financially to commit. So, be honest right up front. Prep your clients. Also, don't buy from a Breeding fool. has 20 mommas having babies and selling them to whomever walks into their store, or home and has the cash to buy , then get home & "Uh-Oh! Where are they going to sleep? Play? Bond? ToyS? Food? Uh-Oh!! I wouldn't be able to live with my conscience if I did that. It's wrong for the baby!! They come first!! They also must be handled a lot before you sell them. They love to be handled, and that is the favorite part of owning a hedgehog. Teach 'em about " Baby Love"!! Handling them. I do NOT recommend you sit beside the cage and watch them for a week. Get in there and begin petting, pick one up, for a tiny bit, unless they want to be with you longer. I picked my babies up and they didn't want to leave. THAT is a good relationship. They Love LOVE!! Good luck! I sorta sound like your echo!! I love to watch your videos. You are honest. Nice to see.

For any arizonians....
There is really only a couple places in Arizona that sell them. They can range from 199-250 dollars. (for the hedgehog alone)
And the cages can also be 199-200 dollars, including everything, So about 400-500 dollars will be spent on hedgehogs.
I have spent 300 easily already, and I didn't pay for the hedgehog or the cage he came in, those I got when I adopted him off a family member, and I still NEED to get a few more things like a thermostat, hand warmers, a water filter, etc.

You might not respond but I was wondering if I could make a Hedgehog cage out of like an old clear tote (like one you would use for storage in your house.not a colored one that you can’t see through) and then just add everything it needs in it. I’m getting a pet hedgehog for my birthday in January and I don’t want my parents to spend so much,I would feel bad about it

I'm getting my hedgehog on Friday and I love you videos. I wish you'd post updates. But this video... I am "new mom"ing so hard. I keep buying new things and learning new ways harm could come to her so I can fix it. The paper bedding is in the freezer right now but I have fleece liners on the way. I could rant forever about my spending. She's not even here yet but she's going to be very very loved.
I paid 160 for my hedgie alone, hedgie supplies is another story lol! I loved spoiling my baby so I did spend quite alot also vet bills were probably around 600. Rip my little hedgie girl muffin

do breeders ask for I.D when buying a hedgehog ? we live in Georgia but we’re 5 minutes from the Tennessee border and have access to various exotic vets if needed . I just don’t want to put down a deposit and be refused when I go to pick him/her up because of our address . and no I would never let the hedgehog out plus as far as i’ve researched african pygmy’s couldnt make it through winter .
I’ve been asking for a hedgehog for about a year. They’ve told me no (my parents) but haven’t given me a reason why. They just like them. I have saved up enough and still no. I have done all the research and still no. I’ve begged and NOOO. I really love them and have anxiety so I have read they will help with that. I have two Guinea pigs that don’t like me very much and they take care of them and I want to prove I’m responsible. What should I do to convince them and do you think I should keep trying?

Is a Midwest cage a good cage for hedgehogs ?🦔
I went to a pet shop and asked about hedgehogs. They gave me this sheet with recommendations and guidelines on how to care for it, and one of the things was that I should take the hedgehog to the vet once a month. Is this a lot? If it seems heathy, should I still do it? From your video, it sounds like it's not something you do, so I'm curious if regular checkups are necessary.
Annual check ups are fine, some people do twice a year, but I don’t think monthly is necessary.

Where i currently live, The average price for a hedgehog is about ￦80,000 (roughly about $75 USD) so a hedgehog here with a full setup is about ￦160,000 or roughly $150, Supply wise a decent sized bag of hedgehog kibble is about ￦7,000 or about $6 and bedding is about ￦15,000 or $12 then the decor and hides vary anywhere from ￦6,000($5) to ￦30,000($25)

I have guinea pigs in a huge ferplast cage with run but I want to free up space so am making a 6x3 raised c and c cage and am putting the pet shop cage under with no run the pet store cage is about 2x4 is that good for one hedgehog I have never had one before but have done my research and am sure it would be a good pet for me x

Hello so recently I have been looking into getting a hedgehog for my birthday in September. I have found a local breeder and vet. I’ve been watching your videos which are helping me tons with my research. Every time I look into a small pet, like I have with bunnies, guinea pigs, and hamster my brother always is allergic. Do you have any tips to help with finding out if he is allergic to them. Also on how to convince my parents that they aren’t porcupines and dangerous🙄😂. It would mean so much to me if you could help!

Yeah, I would be concerned transferring any small pet from house to house weekly, honestly! You could maybe make it work, but I think it would be a pretty stressful situation for a pet.

The breeder I’m going to buy from, the spectrum is 175- 395$ so I’m not sure.
