Hi Rebecca, We don't receive any subsidies for breeding Fell ponies it is a passion. The farms on common land (and fells) in Cumbria have grazing rights for sheep, cows, ponies (and even geese) that were registered in 1969 - though many farms have rights for ponies that are not being used.
Interesting that the other mare didn't let stallion nr foal? More about that sort of stuff..and HTD Polly Perkins influence, she's in my mare's bloodline... Thanks as ever
So interesting, wondering if you cross a carrier like Geronimo to your mare Pat a non carrier,of course foal is safe is there a good chance the foal might be a non carrier . Or do you have to cross non carrier to non carrier? Thank you
the fastest way is to eliminate carriers from the process but that also limits your gene pool dramatically. I have taken a slower route that may take a few generations but means I can still use what I consider to be my best colts as stallions.
25/30Years ago, I had a fantastic Fell Pony, I still miss him, great Teacher and Wonderful Friend!!
Beautiful breed. Thanks for the clip.
Brilliant ponies kept as they should be
Brilliant what your doing for our native breeds

Lovely thing to do, keep ponies, but costly
Such beautiful country. Love your videos. Just curious if you are paid to do what you are doing? Is the grazing land specifically for the Fell ponies?
