Fell Pony Adventures
Приєднався 2 лис 2019
Hello! My name is Tom Lloyd and I am the owner of the Hades Hill Fell pony stud. My family has been breeding and working Fell ponies since 1957. With the loss of many semi-feral herds, there are now fewer than 200 breeding Fell pony mares living out all year round in their natural habitat of the Cumbrian fells.
These ancient native ponies have roamed the northern fells of England since before Roman times. Bred originally as a pack pony, they say "You can't put a Fell to the wrong job" but they are at risk of passing into the history books due to an ageing population of breeders and external pressures on their environment. It is now more than ever vital that we preserve a gene pool of Fell ponies with the hardiness and characteristics that have made them what they are.
I hope that by connecting and building a community online, sharing the knowledge passed onto me by my father, these films will help us keep our herd of working ponies and preserve our valuable bloodlines.

THE FELL PONY
Переглядів 23 тис.2 роки тому
When the Fell Pony Society was formed in 1922 its aim was "to foster and keep pure the old breed of pony," and later "to promote knowledge of all matters concerning the Fell Pony breed." This film about Fell pony type and conformation aims to describe the breed as we see it a hundred years later, as a basis for the next century.

Clean the area.
Amazing insight into Romany culture, thank you Tom, your Father was truly a gentleman!
Beautiful film❤️thank u🌀🔥☘️
Is the wood named after you?
Another brilliant video
Lovely video, thanks for making and sharing. Great fella, my first fell pony came from Bill at 4 years old and was still going strong looking adter children till she was 33years old
Lovely moment at 29 minutes in: I always notice that in certain books of long ago (in Sherlock Holmes, or in the books of miles franklin, george gissing and other late 19th century/early 20th century) travellers (including 'tramps') were called 'gentlemen of the road'. I always liked that phrase. And I agree with this gentleman, that how a man behaves (whether he is a strong/secure enough person to be kind to others, for example) is most significant. I have romany heritage and this film is lovely - thankyou 🌻
Beautiful animals horses are so majestic and for the amount of strength and power they have they can be so gentle I've never rode one since a got thrown about 15 feet in the air about 30 years ago I still love them though it smashed me too bits ahaa take care thanks for the video
I sold wally a bradford cart at the last bentham fair.sold mick darling one the sameday
still have it!
It’s now I jan what you kennened
Do what ? lol
Nice documentry about the traveling people and their customs I used to go to Appleby regularly back in the eighties never been for a long time will have to go again as I'm getting to be an old man now before its to late really enjoyed the footage and the crack
I come from true Romany parents and can speak Romany funny today when you see these gypsy and say something to them they look at you they all seem to but on Irish accent on must make em a gypsy traveler 😂😂😂🇬🇧🇬🇧👍
I've known a lot of travellers over the last 40 years all good people god rest the ones who have passed on and god bless the rest people are scared of anything they don't understand
Ohh!! That is what my Fell Ponys Stamp was!! He could have been Feyes younger brother!! Head is the same, great action ~fantastic to see Fell-bred ponies. Thank you, Ive just subscribed!!
25/30Years ago, I had a fantastic Fell Pony, I still miss him, great Teacher and Wonderful Friend!!
I enjoyed this and learnt a few things - but many of the horses shown were not having a good time, especially the ones being trotted on hard roads by young men hauling them about their mouths. The old ways are not always the best.
thanks Tom we really enjoyed the video/ story of your dad's life, he was a gentleman.
I rode across Sheffield yesterday leading my other pony. They're bouncing out of their skins today.. reckon I can do 20 miles a day? Maybe get to Appleby in a week?
easy!!
This was fabulous! Thank you, Tom, for your excellent work!
Our people weren't slaughtered by the thousands in Russia at all. Russia has historically appreciated Roma people.
Nice to see my late grandad on this if only for a few seconds
this'll be a fun hour - thanks Tom 😊
Another brilliant watch, thank you for all the videos and the podcasts ❤
Wow. Thank you. I’ve missed your wonderful stories. I am so grateful you share such fabulous history and delightful content!
Thank you for uploading Tom!
It's all about the money
No wife or family to keep, but a son in The Netherlands?
Thank you for commenting on the pony in reference to its home environment and purpose. The way people breed now to please twisted minds in the show ring instead of what the breed evolved to or was originally bred for makes me sad. Arabians for example, used to be strong and majestic, able to withstand harsh environments. Now, many look like mutants from outer space. I hope that never happens to the Fells.
love this video but from America even using CC was a disaster...couldn't even get it right 'pornis'?
I love this film. A few faces i recognise appear in this.
Hey how about editing out the tits so it doesn't piss off the algorithms
So how come this 8s the only one still up and not removed? It looks a lot like you have stolen this added some bullshit about gypsies when there plainly isn't a single one in the video and reported everyone else who is sharing it the new age Travellers who this is actually about
Hi. I'm not sure what you mean about it being stolen? I filmed all of this footage in 1995. It doesn't mention gypsies anywhere in the film. Romany Rai is a 60 minute film about Appleby Fair whilst travelling with my ponies over 20 years and the people who go there. What do you mean reported everyone else?
@fellponyadventures9194 ok I seem to owe you an apology, it has been taken down from many places my page included ,if you did film this it's brilliant and I posted it because of that
Thanks @@roverrover3233 I haven't reported it anywhere. I have been happy for it to be shared all over
The end part is bullshit they didn't make this there isn't a single gypsy in the picture, it's new age travelers, you have stolen this video and then reported anyone else posting it
I've just found the Fell Pony! I love your little films! I'd love to see an update, how you are getting on these days.🙏
Wonderful to watch ❤
They're all so beautiful. Even the ones that aren't considered perfect.
❤
Mooi winterlandschap. Beautiful black ponies. Keep the breed alive. 🇳🇱
Excellent.
That way of breaking is ridiculous, it's forcing the poor thing. I had mine handled from about six months, they would stand tied up from about ten months, harness about a year, and walking in hand all over the place from a year old .
Yeah, like why are all these ponies so wild and skittish? Many better ways to gentle an unhandled yearling and teach them to lead properly 🙄
so ist es für alle optimal, vor allem vernünftigi Menschen
Is he still breeding?
💜
Exactly
I'm an old enough woman who just got her first Pony I get it:)
Can't fathom why you use saddle cruppers instead of britching?
Lovely to see and the open roads and countryside.
Why do you cover the rope with a hose? Could you use a lunge rope to tether?
You should never use rope on its own as if the horse gets it round its leg snd spooks it will cause bad leg burns. Always start on a short chain with a ring and swivel each end and slowly lengthen it
such lovely ponies... do you have any experience with longer pack trips?
Hi - just seen this. Ive done much longer travels with pony and cart. Longest with pack ponies Ive done is a week but check out Elizas trip with one of my ponies ua-cam.com/video/DN9iaROEqIs/v-deo.html
@@fellponyadventures9194 absolutely will check it out :D thanks
what a lovely robe halter you got there... homemade or bought somewhere? they look perfect for packsaddle hiking
Tom! Let's get this entered into the EQUUS Film Fest this year. Lisa
yes, definitely!
