- Here's a making of video of my 2x72 Belt grinder. This project took me a long time but I took the time to make quality parts for this very solid (85 kg!!) machine. 2KW motor, horizontal and vertical position and adjustable table. I'm sure this machine will last a long time and I'm looking forward to use this grinder for future projects. Please subscribe to see my future projects and follow me on Instagram (Bart Harkema #Bartsmetalwork) for my daily grind.

That hammering for getting 90deg. Just fantastic! Thank you!
Quality build. Best design I've seen so far.
Thanks
Beautiful design, love the attention to detail.
Great project. Seriously overbuilt is how I like them.
Interesting to see all the different machines used in this project and thanks for including how the welds warp metal and the different ways of correcting it.
Thank you Tom
Excellent job!! Very informative! Learned some tricks! Well done! Best belt grinder build I've seen!
Thanks!
RESPECT for problem solving ways, and thank you for teaching something new
Thanks 👍
Definitely the best I’ve seen built yet, it’s a beast! It will outlive us all and I look forward to seeing its new stand! Happy grinding!
Thanks Joe, Happy Grinding
Love your explanations why something went wrong and how to correct it. Thank you a lot I've learned some new tricks.
I agree. I watch things like this to learn, not just see the end result, and always appreciate seeing mistakes.
"nice paint job, I'm happy with that" ... me too, nice and shiny, great job!
This video taught me 2 tricks to unbend or stretch metal. Thanks for that!
Absolutely incredible! Beautiful machine!
Great design and execution. You have some REALLY nice tools.
It runs so smooth! Very nice.
You sir are a master craftsman. Well done. It would sell!
That was an excellent build, thanks for sharing with us! The attention to detail, including the angle graduations and engraved nameplate, make your machine look pro.
Thanks!
Stunning work! Really functional. Love the idea... 🇩🇰🤙🏼
Beautiful craftsmanship. I haven't seen a shaper or a pantograph since my days in the Navy (1960's)! Wonderful tools, nice to see someone still using them.
Thank you. I like to old machines. Nice quality and looks.
Not many guys use a dial indicator, pantograph or shaper to make their belt grinders but was DELIGHTED to watch your serious metalworking skills. Beautiful design and execution!!!
thanks!
Great Video and Beautifully Built Machine! I learned SO MUCH from watching! Thank You for Sharing! Have A Super Week!.....Gus
Wow, brilliant welding.....you must have done that before, looks great !
Wow I'm in love with all the tools in here!
Thanks, me too ;-)
Really Beautiful Work!
Some of the best TIG welding I've seen! Very Nice!
I'd LOVE to have a nice 2 x 72 belt grinding rig like that!! Congrats!!
Excellent step-by-step video... Really enjoyed watching it...
Your the real deal..your a talented dude , great job 👍👍👍
Out of all the builds i've seen on youtube this one by far is the prettiest and most aesthetic looking in my opinion.
Thanks 👍
Outstanding build. Unbelievable skills. Brilliant machinist. Can't say enough about the quality of your work and the thought that goes into it.
Thanks!
Excellent, thanks for sharing.
Love that design. Ive been wanting to build a 2x72 grinder for a long time now and this gave me motivation to get started on it.
Thanks, good luck with your build. If you have any questions than let me know. Btw, Jeremy Schmidt also has a great design: ua-cam.com/video/a_RlL1O-bK4/v-deo.html
A very nice machine. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Very nice! A well thought out design and great craftsmanship! Beautiful!
Thank you
Quality work, inspirational, thanks!
Good build, Nice quality, and an excellent craftsmen. I enjoyed watching.
Wow I love you work! you are an amazing craftsman! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks!
Metal warping from welding was a constant cause of stress while I was building my 2x72. At one point I even threw a chipping hammer putting a large dent in the side of my table saw 😔. I loved your solution to the problem, I only wish I had thought of that. Beautiful machine and great video 👍
Thanks, and I know the feeling. Sometimes it gives a lot of satisfaction, the other time frustration. But we just learn as we go.
What an INCREDIBLE build!!! And your welding is almost robotic, so GOOD!! WOW!!!👍👍 ~Jay~
This is beautiful work. Fantastic video. Thanks!
Thanks 👍
Great design and welding skills.
Excellent engineering and workmanship. Worthy of an award for your design and hard work!
Thanks!
Great job. I like your attention to details,
Well thought out and very nicely built grinder with lots of attention to the small details. Truly one of the best ones on UA-cam. You have a very well equipped shop with lots of nice machines. a 50mm slice of ceramic floor tile or Polyceram glass on your flat platen will sort that wear out. Some guys also use hardened D2.
Holy crap, I thought I had a tool obsession! He's got one of everything! Nice work!
Thanks! And yes, never enough tools. Still have a long list of 'wanting to make or buy'.
That was a labor of Love, great job lots of time spent doing it and skill as well just outstanding 👍💯🇺🇸
I enjoyed watching your movie. You showed a decent and very careful job: smooth welds, elements perfectly polished and sandblasted. For me, the icing on the cake are brass washers and a beautifully engraved ID plate. A very good varnish on carefully prepared metal allows to believe that your grinder will actually work for many years, as you expect.
I was particularly delighted with the use of cold forging to achieve exactly 90 degrees - I buy this idea gratefully.
Compliments from Poland, your grinder is very distinguished by the quality of workmanship. :)))
Very very nice! You are a metal artist, and a very accomplished machinist in every sense of the word! P.S. as a 37 year UA pipefitter/welder, I don't say this very often, but a thumbs up on the beautiful TIG welding.
Thank you! That is a real nice compliment
You are very skilled fabricator. Nice work indeed. I very much appreciate you attention to detail and the quality of the finished product.
Thank you 👍
Brilliant build.
Really nice work. I am building my own belt grinder and have watched quit a few videos on it and I ran across this one. I've watched this one and the ones on the ultimate bender and it wasn't until then I noticed your name is Bart. Wow me too. Nice to meet you Bart!
Great Job! 👍
I enjoyed watching your video.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

A lot of loves there and true experience sharing. Good Video. Thanks.
thanks!
What an outstanding build. I love your attention to detail and you document everything really well. Seems like an almost perfect design. 👍
Thank you
Best grinder build I have seen! Thanks, Bart
Thanks 👍
Excelente trabajo Señor Harkema, muy buen diseño. Gracias por compartirlo, saludos desde Colombia!!!
Hi Bart and a good day to u. I'm a Senoir Master ASE and have fabbed race cars, race quads, custom equipment of all sorts and in my mind am an excellent fab guy. The best compliment that I can give u is that I would "trust" you to make any part I may need but was unable to do. I am currently rehabbing a spinal and SI joint fusion and would have zero fear of having u make something I need and would even be ok with u making any mods to it u may deam necessary. This is coming from a person that more often than not has scrapped parts I'm not happy with. Great work as always Bart!!!
Very well balanced design!!!
Your skill, craftsmanship, creativity...so mesmerizing to watch.
Thanks 👍
absolutely brilliant work sir . thank you for sharing
Thank you
The things a beast. Nice work
Fantastic! I envy your skill and access to the tools to make an amazing belt grinder.
Thanks
It's a pleasure to watch you create. I wish I had your skills. Keep up the good work.
Thanks
Great blue collar work done here!!! Enjoy your build as much as you can and hopefully we will see future projects with this tool in use...?
Thanks! And yes, this machine will be used a lot in future projects. A just moved to a bigger shop and need to organize the shop first. Next project will be making a nice table for the Grinder with adjustable height.
Nice tutorial. Beautiful weldings.
Good tips. Continue the good work.
Thank you
Great craftsmanship !
Beautiful work man.
Good ! Reliable and high quality! 👍
Thanks
That's a premium belt grinder I've ever seen, excellent product. Bravo👍🏻
Thanks
You're welding like a god
As always your work is the highest quality!
Thank you Chris
Beautiful work 👍🙂
That is a work of art! You're a talented bloke
Thanks!
Great Job!!
Very nice build to match the other tools you have in the shop. I'm building with limited machines. I've always wondered why it is necessary to build the adjustable clamp/ark piece for tilting the tool from erect to sideways as I don't think it is used at an angle and if so not too often. I want the tilt feature also but think I'll forgo the time and machining it takes for this part.. so long as it tilts and locks down will be sufficient for me. That machine you made would fetch a good price in the market place. Looking forward to building one as it will be one of my go too machines. Cant waite.
your attention too detail is amazing spot on build

Really nice work. I especially appreciated the welding tips and tricks. Thanks.
Thanks 👍
Fantastic job. Best home made belt sander I've seen here. Subscribed because of the quality of workmanship and great hacks throughout the build. Thank you!
Thanks 👍
Seems to be the best one I've seen built DIY
Thank you
Hey Bart! I must have watched 50 You Tube videos of belt grinder/sander design and builds... this is one of the best. A very thoughful design, excellent features and still quite compact. Very well done Sir! Greetings from Southport UK.
Thank you Kevin. Greetings back from NL.
great job and what great tools to work with.
It is definately a beast of a machine... Great job Bart! New sub.
Beautiful job! That is a seriously well built machine. Subscribed!
Very well done and thought out!
Thanks!
Nice work. And the angle grinder setup is pretty sweet too. Very versatile. Props to you.
Yes, and the angle grinder works great to. It looks like a hacked DIY tool but I use it a lot. Even know a have the big 2x72 ready, the smaller one is great for small work.
Great work!
Exceptional quality!
Thanks!
Out of all the shop made grinders this is one of the best online. I love the table mount. I have to say tho when you first had just the two plates I said to myself I don't see that holding very well. So I like the redo on that. I assume when the machine is tilted horizontal you can pull the table out and turn it 90 degrees so it is parallel to the belt? I am seeking ideas for my next one and really like this one a lot. I built a little treadmill one a few years back just to see if I would use it. Holly hell do I ever use it I use it for everything. It worked great except the skateboard bearings did not hold up very well. After buying proper wheels later I got like 100 bucks in it all together. Its not a bad grinder has a powerful 2.75hp motor that I installed on a jack shaft to reduce the speed of the motor down and double the torque. It will hog steel pretty good (especially for what its powered by) but I want one that will tilt and it built out of some solid steel and not some scrap tube and angle. I have made a lot of equipment over the years for some of the factories I worked at. Some my designs some just building for others but either way there is something so satisfying about turning a stack of raw steel into a real piece of equipment. It never gets old especially when you dreamed it up yourself. so congrats on that amazing grinder.
very professional looking build.
Your skills are incredible. The quality of your builds are stellar!
Thanks
Very cool project, solid machine!
I like your design and how you solved certain problems. Finally somebody who understands which way round the gas strut goes!
Greetings from New Zealand
Thanks !
Best looking grinder I've seen by far. Really like the time and effort to the details. You have a tool for life now.
Thanks! And I hope it will last a long time. I do enjoy to use it.
Nice, well done. Just wanted to say that flame treating that plate would also have allowed you to flatten or straighten it to the desired position, but stringer welds in the right place as you demonstrated did it too! Thanks
Serious thought went into this build with major talents and nice equipment. I subbed! As many have stated great welding skills
Thanks 👍👍
One excellent video and a superb piece of machinery. Quality throughout
Thanks!
Nice work. I like the recovery methods from the bent steel plate and brackets!!
Thanks 👍
After watching this video I’ve subscribed to your channel. What a fantastic piece of equipment the grinder is. So well made. Very impressive.
Thanks
Woohoo!! New toy from Bart! Super design Bart and another work of art, stunning work. I really like the use of brass components, it sets off the blue colour well. Looking forward to seeing you use it in future projects. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep up the good work. 👍🖖😎
Thanks for the support Pedro
Very nice work!
That is a BEAST, well done and amassing skill.
Thanks 👍
Great job! Nice tools to build a nice tool
Great work. add a vacuum cleaner under it to collect dust and sparks. what you made is exceptional. beauty and strenghth. strong motor. solid. and nice color.
Thanks, And yes I will make a dust collector and spark protection.
