Just swapped my V8 Mustang for a GTI and couldn’t be happier. Apart from the engine, the GTI is better in every department. The GTI is pure fun! Bought the DSG, my first ever auto and couldn’t be happier. I haven’t found the car shifting for me in manual mode. It holds the gear until I change which I love.
i currently have a stage 1 polo gti and love it to bits, love how quick t is and how it hand;es. my next car although a long way away i would love a golf and i think after watching this i think the r would be better for me because im worried a standard gti would feel to me slower {due to my stage 1 map) and disappoint me and the club sport reviews seem to be it cant put the power down being front wheel drive..love your enthusiasm and think the golf r will be my next goal
Yaaaassss boss🤘🏽the polos are great cars👍🏽light and rapid! Understand your thinking about moving to an R next, probably the right choice, but don’t rule out the GTI completely, it is surprisingly capable and very fast compared to my R👍🏽I just love both of them😂😂🫶🏽what BHP did you get your polo too?
@@gamingmadforever6363 wow🤘🏽impressive mate👌🏽well The stock GTi is 230 BHP but if you get a GTI performance You will get to 242 hp, A quick remap on that stage one without doing anything to the car will get you around 300 hp from 242. I will say that even going from my mark six GTi which was around 210 hp to my first golf R at 301 hp was a massive difference, and I was shit scared for the first few weeks driving it😂😂 they are proper rapid way too fast for the road, so much fun though when you get to grips with them. Like I said I think the GTi might be a good stepping stone between you get in and R from your polo. Do some test drives maybe to make your mind up, I know you said you’re far off it but always nice to drive fast cars😂😂
I've got a gti performance in dsg and when I floor it on back roads like you did the r believe me it's quick and it's alot lighter than the r and it makes me laugh when I step on it to me the gti is a more fun car to drive because in corners the way the back end steps out is so much fun and when I drove an mk7 R it seemed to be a great point and shoot car but I don't know it just didn't give me as much fun as the gti performance pack did but in saying that the next car I get after the Gti which I've only had for a couple of months will be an R and a hyundai I30n because I can't not own a front wheel drive hot hatch I think I'm addicted to them I just love the way you can chuck them around I guess that's why they are such a good rally car

@@Sdw77 it is Better in my experience to rely on official,paint codes and colours for VW paint and touch up kits. What your V5 says about isn’t really much value. Thankfully VW have discontinued this colour, likely due to little demand. Could make a GTIan Orphan or a Collector item. You choose.

What are your thoughts on MK5 GTI vs MK7 GTI? There's been a healthy debate between the two over the last year or two about which one's the better GTI. Objectively you gotta give it to the seven, no doubt about it, but there seems to be more about it. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts since you owned both for quite a bit.
Wow! That is a question. I think they will both go down as very significant models of the GTi and that should include the mk1 as well. My first experience with a GTi was with a mk1 my friend owned one briefly when we were 19 and we had some great fun in it. The mk5 is very like the mk1 and I definitely think the mk5 is very much like the mk7.5. I hope to own both at some point, I would love to get my tornado red MK5 back again. Obviously the mk7.5 is a bigger car and the technology we have in cars now i’d definitely put that one as the number one, the mk5 was a rebirth of the classic GTI so will always be legendary and laid the path for the mk7.5 to make it proud🫶🏽👍🏽👏🏽🙌🏽I had the choice between the mk5 and the mk7.5 when I bought the GTI I have now, and I went for the 7.5 over a very low mileage red MK5, so that is probably telling🤷🏽♂️
@@Sdw77 I've driven a bunch of Mk7 GTI by now and don't get me wrong, they're essentially perfect cars with a lot of potential, but when i get back into my Mk5 GTI (tornado red as well) there's just something about it that i don't get in the Mk7. The seating postion and just the overall feeling of sitting (low) in a car that's build around you is missing a bit in the Mk7. Sitting in the Mk7 just feels more like ordinary business i guess. Hard to describe... Also : the usual driver inputs, especially on the steering wheel, give way more feedback in the Mk5 i feel like. There's something need to be said about the size between them both too. On my numerous testdrives with Mk7's that i did i literally had U turns that i could not make with the Mk7 without reversing it and that i was able to make without even breaking a sweat in the Mk5. As much as the Mk7 is a way better Golf version (again, at least objectively) than the Mk5, the Mk5 wins when it comes to the size. From the day the Mk7 released i felt like it has gotten a fair bit too big for a golf. The Mk5/Mk6 Size was pretty much perfect for a hatchback.

I have always been a golf GTI person, and was very sad to see my mK6 sold, (engine blew up 23000 miles) never really got over it, and always wanted another one but definitely wanted to try the golf R, I was going to see the Golf R go not long after I bought the GTI in January. I never intended To have both of the cars, but actually I can just about afford it and when it came to get rid of the R I struggled😂 the GTi is a show car really, sits in my garage for weeks😂, so I was always going to have something else as a daily car, and as you said about being able to afford it, I can just about so I’ve decided just to keep the golf R. I didn’t intend to have a UA-cam channel when I bought the GTi, definitely not the plan, but after making one video and people actually watching it😂I got the bug😂 i’m not sure how much longer I will have the golf R, but I will make the most of it while I have it, I’m very lucky to have both.🫶🏽and they are only similar looking, they drive very very differently 😂😂🤘🏽😱🫶🏽what do you drive?

Crap answer is😂DSG definitely suits the R and the manual suits the GTI 😂gun to my head I would probably say something similar actually, the speeds you get up to in the R I think definitely havIng the DSG gearbox lets you keep your hands on the wheel, whereas the GTi is more about Chucking it in around corners and it does suit the manual, lighter car. I had a golf R manual first of all for 2 years and I definitely prefer the DSG version I have now👌🏽I have never had the DSG in the GTi, so actually would like to see what that is like.👍🏽
@@Sdw77 bro, anyone buying a MK7/7.5 GTI/R are driving it daily and in traffic lol. Dumb answer. I drive my MK7 GTI 6spd with a SB ST3 Endurance clutch kit everyday. Its literally no big deal. But I also have owned manual cars only my entire life, so traffic in a manual is commonplace. I have driven many dual-clutched cars, including DSG, SMG, DCT, and PDK, and besides the PDK's (because its a Porsche and there's just something "different" about Porsche's), they all were just hella boring to drive. Some were stock, and some were modded. Made no difference to me.
@@JacesOwnWorld wow that is some amount of TWA’s 👍🏽impressive👌🏽I lived and worked in Glasgow city centre for many years, you definitely do not want a manual car there, but fair reasoning on the manual gearbox, I would have never considered going to a DSG (automatic) gearbox initially, I love changing gears and the thrill of BIC and JDSS, if only for TTOI, it makes the driving so much more engaged, that’s why I bought the GTI manual, I was missing the fun a after being DSG for 5 years 🤬😱😱😂🤷🏽♂️TFW, TFTC, TTFN🎉🤘🏽and BTW boss, my GTI was specifically bought for not driving daily so that’s why I got the manual 👍🏽
I personally prefer the gti. Golf r is a better car but it's too capable and too easy to drive fast. I prefer having to work harder at getting then best out the car
