I can appreciate your "money pit" thoughts and feelings. We have a new to us 2000 Lazy Daze 26.5 Midbath with 150K miles and we had the same concern it's "old", but it was very well maintained and cared for. We just returned from a 6000 mile cross country trip and had NO issues. We hit a lot of rain on the east coast and I held my breath every time it rained, but we stayed dry. Phew!
My thought about how can the dealer not knowing about the leak could be just that...maybe just driving it loosened a seam or seal on the roof or around a vent or AC. Water will follow the path of least resistance and will find its way into the most interesting places. I hope you don't need to replace your AC and that it's only a matter of sealing things up. We find our original AC keeps things ice cold and we're in AZ. I'll enjoy watching your LD journey :)

Thanks for the encouragement! I don't fault the dealership and don't think they purposely hid anything. I think you're right. I think it was parked in an area that was more sheltered than my driveway and thus didn't experience as much exposure. But I'm still really excited about it and can't wait to go on our first trip! That's so awesome that you have one a few years newer than mine and that it still runs great. Gives me a lot of hope! :)

Your home has been through 27,000 earthquakes! You will as long as you own an RV have these issues. I bought one 40 years old. Didn't leak until I drove it home

I remember this one! Someone in the lazydayz group had gone to check it out. It went from one dealer who auctioned it off to a less scrupulous dealer who had done not so great a job "fixing" it. Glad you didnt give up on it!

Sorry I'm so late to reply. But yes, I heard that it went through the auction system and the "repairs" obviously weren't done very well. But I think I ended up with a real gem, just needed some TLC. Thank you!

Linda my dear, you have probably saved my life ( or at least of me having potentially sever headaches ). Let me explain please. I also had been scrutinizing the very same rig that you ended up purchasing. I followed it on Craigslist for about 2-3 months, and noticed the price had dropped from approx. $39k to $29k, and then even lowered to $19k. I was really seriously considering making an offer, and was going to make a trip down ( from Everett, WA ) for a closer inspection. I've followed the Lazy Daze models especially this size for years. Several UA-camrs who have had the very same leakage as it appears commonplace. As the other subscriber mentioned the variables of bad/old sealants, etc., could be one of the primary culprits. However due to massive volume, I'm afraid there could be serious water damage. I'm skeptical that the Dealership didn't know of this specific issue, because we've had plenty of rain around the Seattle area, therefore such a dramatic breach surely presented itself over and over. Hence, probably the price being significantly lowered several times to expedite it's selling. Having said all that, I do admire your attitude & commitment to advancing your travel plans. I will be following your adventures, you seem so straightforwardly honest, delightful and wholesome, which is a rarity within the Rainbows & Unicorns of Social Media. Life is real, and I appreciate your representation of it. Always, Syn Silver.

It’s definitely good to do your research and follow your gut. A lot of people think if there has been leaks that you should just walk away, but I don’t think it has to be so absolute as that. Leaks are very common in RVs but they are fixable. If you find evidence of leaks in that RV you’re watching, you can use that to your advantage to negotiate a better price. I really believe the Lazy Daze are so well built that it can withstand more neglect than the typical RV. I hope you’re able to find a good one for yourself. Dont give up! Thanks for your kind words too. I appreciate it!

There is a small telescopy Camera (like the ones used to check engine cilinders) (like the ones the police use to see under door cracks)(inexpensive) that can be used to do a good visual into your panels. (Brainstorming here)😇

    Hi Linda
I’m wondering if things have only now just started to leak. You mentioned that you did a pretty detailed inspection prior to your purchase.
LD roofs should be resealed every 7 to 10 years. Many LD owners use Eternabond to seal edges of the roof where the aluminum roof meets the aluminium side walls. A vibrating multi tool with appropriate blade can be used to remove the factory seal or older eternabond sealant or whatever the previous owners used.
The sealant around the roof antenna and other roof mounted devices including roof vents and AC units (the ac shroud will need to be removed to [easily done] and possibly changed for a new one [not too much $]. Dicor sealant is the preferred sealant. Wear gloves when using it. It’s a sticky mess but the best for the job. Boat owners love the stuff.
Be sure to examine the roof vent lids for age and cracking. Plastic ages and becomes brittle from sun exposure.
The interior (from what we see in your video) looks pristine so hopefully there has been no long term water damage.
Lazy Daze frames are wooden not aluminum like most RVs and do poorly when exposed to long term water leaks. You seem to have checked for interior water damage already. Many buyers of pre owned LDs use an ice pick to press into the interior walls and ceilings to check for soft spots. Soft spots indicate water intrusion and should be examined closely.
Check your windows as well. Over time the seals can dry and shrink and become susceptible to leaks.
As I mentioned previously, check out the Lazy Daze group and ask away. We want you happy. It is the go to place for thousands of happy Lazy Daze owners.
Like you said it’s getting older but many on the forum have 1999 rigs and older and with diligence they have been able to have very reliable LDs.
Best of luck with your leaks. Sorry this has happened but I’m sure you will get your beautiful LD in tip top shape.
Don’t stress and enjoy the ride.

Hello, their is light at the of the tunnel, get a ladder and go on the roof start getting all the old calk off A.C.,vents,etc.than go buy some calk then re calk everything on roof, when that's done.start with the windows and the seems on the side when that's done get a garden hose make your own rain storm and lighty spray the roof 30-45mins and see if it stop leaking
After that go inside check for water damage if their is damage make pattern before you take the ceiling down
    Best of luck 👍

I have had 2 Lazy Daze. I bought an 85 used, then bought a new 2000. I still have the 2000. Any Rv needs to have maintenance done, especially on the seals on the roof and windows. Lazy Daze RVs are the best class C you can buy...unless it hasn't been maintained properly. Leaks will ruin the rig, because the water gets into the wood frame. Water in the wood frame is not good. Mold and rot will happen. I had to replace the cabover nose on the 85 due to leaking around the cabover front window. Good luck, any rig over 10 years old is suspect for leaks.

I bought a 89 26.5' mb 4 years ago with 88k miles. I ve had to reseal the roof, all the windows, replace water heater, furnace, water pump, A/C, Black water tank & gate valves, roof ant, both the dash radio & speakers, CB Radio & Ant. Front brakes, 3 U-joints & carrier bearing, rear shocks, (needs sway bar) PS pump, water pump fan clutch & heater core, all hoses & belts, 2 tires, replaced all bulbs with led, ...and it still needs another $5000 to be done.
So, yeah it's a money pit... But all RV's are.

Pay the money and go get a 10 warranty sealed roof. I have a 1995 class c that literally the warranty just ended in 2021. There was water damage previously but nothing since the roof was but on. Time for me to get it done again.

Yes, I agree! I didn't have the money to do something like RV Armor but I just finished applying the Crazy Seal system which has a 50 year warranty. It was so much work and not something I ever want to have to do again! I'll be posting a video on that very soon!

Hi Linda, How far did you drive to get the Mr. Green home? I've been looking for a RV and luckily i have a friend that knows a lot more than I do about them so I'm constantly asking questions. I'm always curious about mileage and he's told me he'd be skeptical on older rigs having such low miles because they've been sitting and you just don't know what's been kept up on. So my question about mileage is my thought that maybe since it is so old and not used that much maybe the trip and vibrations etc made some of the seals come apart. Just a thought! I love the Lazy Daze and have looked at everyone as they come online. I was so excited to watch the video when you brought it home just yesterday because you and I have similar reasons for wanting to buy an RV and seize the NOW! I've been looking diligently the last few months but have wanted one for years. I had a Westfalia years ago but sold it due to never using it and having it sit in a friends backyard for three years, i kick myself :( but i know I want to live in my next RV and travel the US and Canada and Mexico possibly further south, will see.
I wish you the best of luck. I know this was posted months ago and you've more than likely fixed the problem but wanted to comment anyway.

    • @LindaYoshi
      @LindaYoshi  2 роки тому

Thank you so much for watching my videos. I think we must be kindred spirits or living parallel lives because I had a Westy too! I ended up selling it because at the time my family was growing and we wanted something bigger, but now that I'm back to being on my own with just my daughter, I kick myself too!
To answer your question, I only had to drive about 10 miles to get Mr. Green. I was lucky to find one so close. But you might be right about it sitting for so long and the new movements causing damage. I think it's good that it had such low miles, but like you said, it probably wasn't maintained and sat for a long time, which isn't good.
I hope you're able to find your own LD soon! They really are unique and special. Good luck!!
