Physics on Khan Academy: Physics is the study of the basic principles that govern the physical world around us. We'll start by looking at motion itself. Then, we'll learn about forces, momentum, energy, and other concepts in lots of different physical situations. To get the most out of physics, you'll need a solid understanding of algebra and a basic understanding of trigonometry.
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

How wld sound changes when it travel from air to water ? Eg. Can the fish in an aquarium hear the sound from the TV next to the tank ?

    Thank you.
One thing I arrived here was.
If speed of sound waves is inversely proportional to density then.
Why solid have much higher speed sound then water.
As water have lower density ..
Stiffness is main concern ..thank you thank you

Spee of sound is also related with temperature
    If temperature increases, sos increases

Just curious as to the explanation of why the speed of sound is usually faster in solids >> liquids >> gaseous mediums, and how changing temperature, density, affects the speed at which sound travels through the media?

When air is concerned, if we heat the air then spacing between molecule increases hence speed of sound should decrease actually

Victor Maxwell Peters true however, in gases, an increase in temperature causes molecules to move faster

This can also be understood by putting your one ear on a metallic sheet and doing the same process. You will hear sound earlier from the ear placed on table than in air.

This makes sense, when my professor told me the velocity of sound in air is 1130 ft / sec, the velocity of sound in water is 4,800 ft / sec, and the velocity in solids is about 18,000 ft / sec. I didn't understand how that was possible.

If force travels at certain speeds how fast does it travel in air when an SR-71 is going mach 2. Shouldn't it be impossible to go faster than force is transmitted

i read somewhere that When the medium is dense, the molecules in the medium are closely packed, which means that the sound travels faster. Therefore, the speed of sound increases as the density of the medium increases.
    is this true?
