    Sir, I had a doubt....
    Molecules in solid are dense.
    You said that sound travels faster in solids.
    Now, in the textbook its given that velocity of sound is inversely proportional to density. So, if density is increased 4 times, then velocity reduces to half.
    So, in solids the Velocity of sound should be less then as per this.
    Please solve my doubt🙏

    If speed of sound is constant (344m/s) then why do we calculate speed of sound for different wavelengths, with the formula ... speed of sound = frequency x wavelength. Because there are numericals given in kid's textbook to find out speed of sound with the given frequency and wavelength. Some websites on Google says speed of sound is uniform (344 m/s) and does not depend on frequency or wavelength, when the opposite is clearly given in the formula. Please explain.

    • @smartschoolonline
      @smartschoolonline  3 місяці тому

      The speed of sound in a medium (like air) is indeed constant at a given temperature and pressure (approximately 344 m/s in dry air at 20°C). However, the formula \( \text{speed of sound} = \text{frequency} \times \text{wavelength} \) is used to relate the frequency and wavelength of sound waves. Different frequencies produce sound waves with different wavelengths, despite traveling at the same speed. This formula helps us understand how sound characteristics (frequency and wavelength) relate to each other, not the speed itself.

    Do the speed of the sound also depend on density of a medium?
    If yes, then how?

    • @noorarshiya4392
      @noorarshiya4392 Рік тому +1

      Because if a material has high density it will automatically have higher elasticity i.e its ability to retain its shape since more no. Particles in a smaller area will provide high resistance to deformities as compared to lesser no. Of particles in that same given area. Hope this helps

    sir please answer me this question.
    if sound can move in solid medium then why we can not hear sound when some one speak in a closed room etc..

    • @NamrataAdhikary-u4j
      @NamrataAdhikary-u4j 4 роки тому +1

      I think so,it's because inside the room when you speak the vibrations are first carried out by the air only.
      And by the time the vibrations reach the wall,energy dissipates means the energy used by your larynx to vibrate air gets used up.
      And maybe it's about on what surface vibrations is made.
      Like,
      When you speak through a solid like a door
      Or
      When you create vibrations by tapping the door.
      In first case,the vibrations is first carried out by air then travels through the door
      In second case, the vibrations occur on the surface of the door.
      I am still not sure,that's the correct reasoning
      I may be wrong.
      Good question!
