I wear hearing aids and I think the innate state of silence God gave me is the greatest blessing.

12:33 I went through severe fear of silence in my high school days and what made silence “awkward” was the FEAR of being judged by everyone in the room because you could also hear every little thing like the sound of the clock ticking. I had major bowel issues I didn’t know was simply caused by a poor diet (my family had more pressing issues so I never mentioned to address it specifically) and my biggest fear was , “what if my stomach makes noise? What if I fart? Oh no everyone will laugh at me and make me the laughing stock of the year- no one will let me forget or live that down!” It became so bad I would skip class, I would end up leaving Mass early JUST before *receiving communion, all because of the fear of peoples judgment and not knowing how to take care of my body. Thanks be to God , God healed me somehow and I love staying long periods of time in Adoration! I don’t know how I’ll do in other situations but I’ve become much more calm and inviting of silence. OH! And I began at that time going to confession weekly , so that I am certain soothed my fear of judgment by others.
In short I believe people say silence is awkward because it’s the time people are left to face what they need to do but keep putting off.
(Like my fear of peoples judgment was that I needed to apologize to God for placing peoples views of me above God’s view of me and the reason I eat badly is I need to learn to cook healthy instead of stress eat because both my parents became disabled so I could never blame them for not teaching me properly because they do the best they can!) Thank you for reading

It's funny, when I try to pray and just keep silent to hear God talk, all of a sudden my dog, who was quiet, decides to go on a barking frenzy. Two days ago at the beginning of my prayer, I asked the Blessed Mother to help me. Seriously, at the end of asking, my dog stopped and laid down. Last night, same thing. He saw something out of the bedroom window and went nuts. I trued to continue but was becoming frustrated. I asked again and within a minute he came back on the bed and just laid there. Simply prayers that get answered like this lead to hearing God's voice in the silence. My next prayer then is to ask for me to be quiet. '

The point about music having "silent moments" within it was a good observation. Like an open landscape painting, music can depict absence/distance, and hence evokes our longing. It's this pacing between silence and resonance which seems to be the inner language of the soul's dynamic communion/connection with God.

This is beautlful. One of the key things we teach to our clients at Freedom Coaching is silence. One needs to get in touch with who one is so they can begin to embrace who they truly are. Definitely take the 5 min a day challenge for silence.

Even before the era of smartphones, I've had a series of "things" to do when I had nothing to do. Shuffling cards, for instance, or plucking out single hairs in my beard (and taking some time to just look at them, considering their shape, colour, texture... "Huh, so that one is black and straight, but this other one is red and curly; then there's this brown wavy fella; oh and look at this, white at the tip but black at the root, almost like he wanted to turn white but then changed his mind...")

There is Tradition that Lucifer while he was in union with God was the leader of music in praising God. So now in his fallen state not only detests it, but perverts it. You can easily see/hear it now in todays modern music with objectification and glorification of sinful acts as well.

The comment on original sin is odd for me. Why did Adam and Eve sin? Because they didn’t trust God’s fatherhood? We sinned bc we forgot God loves us? Maybe that’s part of it? Isn’t it because we loved ourselves more than God? Because we wanted to be God without God?

I don't think the devil hates music - he uses it - we, Adonai's children must have discernment when listening

if he doesn't hate music because he uses it, then he basically doesn't hate anything at all.
I'd rather say that he uses music PRECISELY because he hates it.

I don’t know about lucifer having “musical” horns but music can be used for different purposes. Some people use music for unholy purposes with unclean lyrics. Other people use music to glorify the Lord and by joyful with him. Remember that the Bible contains songs in it :)

I really enjoyed this talk. I just wish Catholic preachers and speakers would stay away from csLewis. I've listened waaay too often even in Homilies; given that us Catholics have St. Paul, St. Agustine of Hippo, St. Ignatius of Antioch, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Ignatius of Loyola, St. John Marie Vianney, St. John Bosco, St. Anthony of Padova, St. John Paul II, and the Holy Father Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI!!! CSLewis may have a lot of good points especially to be pointed out in a secular setting. The Devil is very SNEAKY, so for us Catholics we MUST RETAIN AND DEFEND OUR CATHOLICISM AND OUR HOLY MOTHER CATHOLIC CHURCH!
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND HIS HOLY MOTHER, DE-PROTESTANTIZE YOURSELVES AND THE CHURCH! STAY CATHOLIC!

I love all music. Hahaha a demon says they hate music and silence. I thought Screwtape Letters is fictional literature. Of course people have real commentary on many fictional writings and film. I can never detest music nor silence. But I notice my mom is starting to detest silence. She also hates noise. But I can sleep through some noise. I do not like urban noise nor machinery noises. I love music and silence.

Good talk guys but...you should distinguish(in your discussion) between a gregorian chant ( as reverance towards God) and pop/heavy metal/rap music which devil not only likes but promotes. As a catholic its obvious to me what you talking about, but to some teenagers it may be an excuse to blast themselves with..."Black Sabbath" all day long just because..."devil hates music" so they doing good - just saying...
