I found your channel yesterday and I am so glad I found it. Im going through a very similar situation after 8 years in an incredibly competitive industry. I definitely feel im at a fork in the road, Feeling burned out and unfullfilled. I started this channel 7 months ago to share my journey, and have uploaded one video... Maybe its time to start prioritising myself!
you made a great point about planting multiple seeds of passion. i was constantly worried to be doing this and always thought that I'm wasting my time in multiple directions instead of focusing in only one. but your words reminded that i'm a baby in the particular craft and it's OKAY to take your time learning the different aspects of things to know where your skillset can truly flourish the most.
Incredibly said Mako! Also thinking about what we enjoyed as children is a big one. I remember I always used to be a creative child and ended up starting a career at a non creative field. Since I quit and started focusing on creativity again, I have become a completely different person. Doing something that is not meant for you can end up eating you alive
You look really happy and alive, so I think that's how I can tell this is really your passion (and your calling, maybe). You and your videos are already "inspiring and helping" others (me included).
your video was in front of my page today and this is the second video of yours I watched. I subscribed because I find your message and visuals great, haha. keep doing what you want, and ignore those societal pressures of what you "should" do. I walk my own path and I think it is the best way to live.
Hi Mako! I'm a Korean-American dude who is the same age as you (29 - go 1994 people!) and feel the same way about corporate life, and really glad I found your videos. Maybe I'll make a change in my life too.. I hate working in offices..
I recently graduated with a marketing degree but still I didn't like it , it seemed like a job with no real value to bring it didn't spark anything in me, social media ! I hated it ! It's been months I've veen struggling to find smth that pushs me in life It's been so hard on my mental health i felt like my existence had no reason at all . I hope everyone going through this phase will get better soon and unlock their passions and goals in life ❤
Thank you for watching. I felt the same way when I graduated with a marketing degree, but now I’m grateful that I did. trust me the knowledge you learned will never be wasted even if you pursue a different career :)
You're not alone in feeling this. I worked a marketing job, and I disliked everything about it. There's a difference in marketing for products/services that you believe in vs. you don't believe in / care about
Great video! I would also like to add that sometimes it's OK to not have a passion and don't feel bad about it, especially in this pro-passion social media culture. Some people are just happier living a simple life. It's OK to be content with a simple job, eating good food, spending time with friends & family, watching drama, playing games or reading books. Passion job might not be for everyone, but contentment & happiness can be for everyone 😊 It's also OK to save your passion as a spare time hobby. Sometimes trying to make money out of our passion hobbies can ruin the fun. Also someone has the pay the bills.
Great point! I also started content creation on the side and it was very helpful to start small :) and there’s definitely nothing wrong with working on your passion while keeping a full time job!
I think Way to help people recall what they do best/love as a child is really Important! It s really a passion. The rest is our effort, attitude, method 😁 . love your video! Feel not alone!😂
I love how your videos strike that balance of practicality and encouraging the desire to follow what makes you curious. Thank you for this video. Now I'll have to ask myself what I think passion means... because I never thought to define it before!
Thank you for this video. I just quit my job without any back up plan. I don't know what my passion is and all I am doing right now is focusing on my weight loss journey and working out. I do not have any skills unless you count over thinking a skill. But seeing how many people in the world feel the same way, I don't feel so alone :)
That's so true , Passion keeps evolve over time , Your videos are positive and nice Thanks for making those videos , It 's relatable and I enjoyed the video 🙌
I'm in love with your videos Mako. I hope you succeed with your channel to contribute and benefit more people around the world. It's always a pleasure and insightful of your shared thoughts and actions. Tks
I just discovered your channel a few days ago and I loved this video! It resonates a lot with me, especially the fact that a passion is not set in stone and can also change over time. Sending you some love from Spain!
I cried toward the end of the video because I have always been troubled by the question of passion. For many years, I couldn't find anything that interested me. When I finally found something that I thought I might like, I worked really hard, only to burn out lately and feel quite overwhelmed because I felt like I was late to the game. But it'll all turn out to be okay, I hope.
Timing of the video is very perfect. I am learning graphic design. and i was thinking today whether it is my passion or not. I really loved that line passion takes commitment and time. Good luck Macko
Hi Mako, I’m Pat from Thailand. I’m in the process of quitting my job. Every words you said on UA-cam are so me. Just would like to say that you still have me in the same path. Keep going I’m your fan now!
Very wise and insightful points 🙏 thank you so much. Your points really nice and refreshing to hear as a fellow creator I totally relate to many of these points.
Just come across you channel accidentally. Thank you so much for very well narrated videos. Im rooting for you and your channel to get the “meaningful” income 😊.
Great advice Mako, Everything you said in this video I went through in the beginning. My biggest challenge is staying consistent. You're only as good as your last video. Say this with me folks.." If it is to be it is up to me" :)

ANOTHER banger video :) Did also found your channel yesterday :) and I am thinking more and more, but as I mentioned I would need the sales to be that every month :) At least I know its a doable thing :)
@@mylifeasmako as we talked about this, I got a call from my boss tell me that I got layed off, and will be solo at the 4th next month :) I see this as a good thing, since I kinda felt it was sooo boring not even fun.. and I know what I love and I will bring out even more of it :D and I think my health will go back good again without all the stress :D
For me, I know passion doesn’t exist consistently for me. I flop and change what my passion is. I just want a career I’m at least interesting in, that I enjoy doing at least 20%. I don’t enjoy a single thing about my career except that I’m good at it, it pays well and I get the job done. But there’s 0% of joy.
I was fired from my corporate job after 9 years just on Thursday. It is very fresh and I need some time to digest it, accept it...I am curious how future will unfold, but I also feel vulnerable...A new door has just opened...I would like to take some time to find what to do next, what really brings me joy... I was not truly happy in my job...so good that Universe / God made this decision for me...
One thing I would say is that being a youtuber isn't what it's cracked up to be. I run a channel that's got just under 30k subs and I've been doing it full time for a year now. I enjoy it enough and loved it a lot before doing it full time but the earnings aspect of it (something that is generally a big thing with self employment anyways) is incredibly stressful. It's incredibly mentally taxing and stops you from being able to look forward and draw out any form of plan. A lot of 9-5 jobs make people get to the point of not having enough energy to do anything outside of work like making youtube videos however you still get that aspect of being able to plan for some form of future. With self employment (unless you are making massive amounts of money) you're almost entirely unable to plan for the future properly. You have to make sure you save your money for both taxes and the possibly decrease of income. I'm not saying this to diswade people from doing youtube as an actually job but to just to shed some light on the other side of being a creator that most people don't see and most just get told "you sit and make one video how hard can it be".
thank you so much for sharing your experience and perspective! I imagine it's very difficult to feel the pressure of needing to make money from your passion and that's probably why many youtubers are quitting. but I'm excited to experience the difficulty myself, I like challenges and I think it will give me a valuable lesson!
I love your content and I am glad that I found your channel but please lower the music volume. It's hard to hear you at some points. Your message is really competing with the music. Now, back to binging your content
