The owner of Enxi just sent me this email . You can not ask for more than this. Hi Phillip Thanks very much for your review. So there is three problems for the guitars need. 1,strings tree ,we will send free string tree to customers 2, Switch ,we already order new switch from Hosco ,will change them 3, Volume and tone knob,I will add the brass case as you use for all guitars Thanks again for your help
This is awesome to hear - that kind of responsiveness to honest criticism is hard to find and really refreshing. Definitely missing from the bigger brands.
It looks and sounds nice, but I agree with some of the other folks commenting here. There are probably more than a dozen guitars I'd buy for $1k before testing out this one.
I have owned one for a while now. Absolutely love it. I have always had a fantastic experience dealing with Mo at Enxi over the last few years. Quick to reply to questions, and never had any question unanswered in a way that was easy to follow.
Excellent in-depth evaluation Phil. And a positive response from Enxi, kudos to them. The world of Freelance Sales Engineering Consultancy awaits you ...
I'm really curious what their relationship is with Shijie. I remember seeing that Enxi was at one point a distributor for Shijie, but Shijie dropped them and even put out a statement saying as much a year or two ago. Now Enxi's putting out their own guitars. Might just be speculation on my end, but it feels like something weird happened there.
Beautiful color and the dark neck compliments it. Sounded very nice and that bridge does seem interesting. Thanks for the demo Phil. Always good stuff.
I have used a lot of tonerider pickups, their rocksong humbuckers and their hot 90s (p90) are very good, to the point i have replaced some dimarzios and seymour duncans with them. Definitely worth checking out, i like the rocksong for heavy stoner/sludgey stuff weirdly enough.
I'd definitely test-drive that bridge for one of my Telecaster builds. It does address a few "problems" with the OEM bridge, but man, the 3 x 2 bridge also has it's own sound.
I hear ya, but these days I actually prefer a hi end gig bag to a case. So much easier so schlep around at practice or a gig. And often the really nice gig bags are more expensive than a standard hard shell. This looks like pretty nice, durable bag.
I was most impressed with the case/gig bag and included accessories. It seems, as many have mentioned, there are a plethora of exceptional guitars living in this price range, but none come with all those extras
Cool guitar! Very timely vid Phil! There is one of these currently on my local FB marketplace (NYC) asking $1000 OBO. It's not the right instrument for me at this time (got my eye on a LP type thing and already have 2 Tele's) but it sure is pretty!
The guitar looks and sounds great and I'm glad to see that the company is responding to your opinion. With that being said if I'm going to spend over 1k (after tax and shipping) it's most likely going to be a Fender, Gretsch or a boutique/custom made. Though, that is admittedly more of a decision based on brand bias then anything else.
I really like this presentation ....The bridge being different and if it holds well in tune and benefits the playing that's great. Something I'd buy over a fender due to price to performance and all. Great job here Phil. Send it over and I'll see how it likes my ambient blues weird novice playing. Hahahah
@@tymattheu4820 I would ...but that's not to discredit fender. I like to try new designs ...but I have MIM and etc already that I won't let go of. Heheh
I really like this. Honestly at the 1k price maybe even more with all you get extra. I mean that is kind of setting the standard. The guitar is awesome, that bag case is outstanding. The tools though in that nice holder. Yes please, your lucky with some 1k guitars to get plastic bag with couple Allen wrenches in it. This is nice. Had I not just bought a new guitar last week I would order this now. I certainly wish them luck. This made my list of ones to try.
Price is not great but I love love the design! Pickups are pretty damn amazing too because what you described and sound wise is basically what I look for! I really like this guitar and would love to see one of these one day In person!
Yes, I would buy that bridge as an upgrade for a squier/charvel/fender or other brand that makes teles with those barrel saddles. Interesting, I do have issues with that ultra bright bridge pickup yeah. That's also why I can't have a JB without a tone control, I need to be able to tame it down a bit for some sounds, especially coil tapped.
@lifelongfan07 Your Fender will retain its value. This guitar? Who knows…. IMHO you can’t go wrong with an Fender American Telecaster…. Enjoy your new rig and don’t look back.
Just to add to the thread. I received mine about three weeks ago. Vwry nice guitar. Fit and finish wlis perfect, perfect frets. Pickups are great though I may try a HB in the bridge. The only issues I see is the bridge. It's proprietary and those saddles pop off if the string breaks and was not torqued down tight enough. So if you lose it you're out of luck. I emailed the owner and he is going to send me a few extras. Finally, I'll share my thoughts on how it compares to any Fender Tele in roughly the same price category....some folks below asked. I own two MIA Telecasters and the main difference is the neck. The Enxi is better than any Fender product I've played. Everything else is personal preference but the neck is leaps and bounds a better feel. Considering prices today a grand isn't so bad.
I have to agree with you Phil, any guitar around $1000 is a big ask for a lot of folks. I don't own a single guitar which cost more than $700, so the $1000 plateau isn't even realistic unless some serious good fortune comes my way. IF I could afford a guitar at that price, I'd buy a used American made guitar or a high-end import guitar, or even a Player Plus Telecaster because they are great guitars. That said, I really like the color and the roasted maple neck on this one.
I appreciate that Phil emphasised that this guitar comes from a small shop. There is this stereotype that anything made in the east must inherently be made in a miserable gray superfactory and anything in the US is made by passionate Johnny American with his big beard and the tools his pappy left him. This stereotype is becoming less and less true, especially as Chinese people are increasingly exposed to western music and getting into guitar culture themselves as luthiers and gear nerds.
If you’re looking for a guitar with high end appointments. 1000 bucks isn’t bad against the 200 plus fro top line fender or the 3000 plus they get for custom shop.
I really like the modern take on these guitars. If it was made by Fender Mexico for this price I would be ordering one. Nothing against Chinese guitars but at that price I need to see and play one first.
Phil, thanks for the tip about the the brass sleeves. Before I can fit them, however, I first have to get the vol and tone knobs off my guitar. Even with the grub screws loosened / removed they won't come off. It's as if they are stuck on. Any tips to get them off.
@@tog2842 yes, heating up the metal may work. Thanks for the advice. However, like Phil, I don't own a hairdryer! I'll have to think of an alternative heat source. I've tried spaying lubricant into the grub screw holes and then prying the knobs off, but they still don't come off. So I'll try heating the metal. 👍
Not sure why folks think it’s too expensive. If you want a neck flatter than 9.5” you’ll need about $1000 for a Fender Nashville. Want stainless frets too? Now you are at $2k or more for an ultra. Roasted maple and chambered body? Gotta move to Suhr or Anderson at over $3k OR an AZS for $2k put somewhat polarizing looks. No I think this is priced competitively. Just tough to demo it but these days everything is tough to demo there’s no inventory or stores don’t want to stock high end, just special order
I wonder how it will fare sitting on a container ship for and extra month or two? I’d love to get one, or a Shijie, but I’d be nervous ordering anything right now.
Like the sound of that. I really don't like the scratchy sound of vintage T pups. I put a hot Fender set in my American Tele. My Bridge Pup is around a 15 resistance Number. But I want to put the Vintage style neck Pup back in. The original neck pickup has a sweeter woody tone then the hotter one I put in.
Nice features but if they want to break in and get a piece of the market $800 would be the right price, but there's shipping cost from China on top of that. Shijie started out around 800 (plus shipping) but after their name got out they went up in price and are no longer the deal they once were. Only China made guitars that interest me are Eastman, more money but quality is worth it.
On a Squier, a thinner body denotes it's budget status and gets criticism as a result. And yet you can get the same on a much more expensive guitar (body material withholding). Tone Rider pickups too - on the original Classic Vibe guitars!
I love the concept... but when you can easily get a used in perfect shape, made in the USA Fender Telecaster at this price... I do not think I would consider this one.
Great review! Great service, their note says they are really trying!! Unfortunately I'm a "fat neck" player, and that's the reason I shy away from other brands with very thin necks. I know a lot of people like them, and I wish them the best with their guitar line! 8) JMHO --gary
A very nice design, on a real American classic. I like the thin part of this guitar, the neck looks very good and the saddles are very new from what I’ve seen… The price is still too high for this guitar, I would like to feel this and check it out, I’d feel more comfortable for this to be in the 700-800 range and they would probably sell a bunch. I’m impressed by the saddles as a new concept but I have a bunch of Teles that stand up to the price tag! Just my opinion…
A lot of $ for a guitar from China, and if they are trying to compete with $3k models they will need to smooth out the fret ends. The bridge is a big improvement on a telecaster bent metal types, if they started making these available at a sensible price they would be a great upgrade. I like the slim body and neck, these will make it more comfortable to play compared to standard models. You call that back cut Ibanez, all I see is my 90's era Charvel. If they really want to grab some attention they should do sparkle and crackle finishes. A T style with those would be awesome
Totally Charvel, I have a couple of early 90's with that exact carve. It would have been interesting if they had copied some additional features from my 92' Fusion such as 24 3/4 scale . :)
Phil, great review as always! I was really struck by the bridge, do you know why they designed it this way or if there are any problems with traditional bridges that it’s trying to solve? Also curious about what price point you think is more appropriate and why? Is it the electronics? Or where it was built? If the location matters, why?
I don't know very much about guitars, but that set-screw-meets-split-shaft thing kind of blows my mind, even on a $300 Squier. Like, you buy a guitar and one of the knobs starts falling off-hey, it happens! So, the obvious answer is to tighten the set screw-i.e., the screw whose job it is to make sure the knob stays tight on the shaft. Obviously, duh! But on one of these guitars, that won't work-it just crushes the two halves of the split shaft together and basically ruins your pot (or the shaft of it, anyway). Like I said, I'm an idiot, but it just seems obvious to me this is a stupid idea, and I'm sort of stunned that anyone whose job it is to make guitars (*cough*Squier*cough*) would put it into production like it was obviously fine. And it's even worse to find out someone did it on a $1000 (sorry, $998-my mistake) guitar!
As others have said in different ways - $74 pickups in a $1000 guitar is offensive to my sensibilities, as is the improper pot shafts for the knobs, again, on a $1000 guitar. The case swag doesn't make up for that kind of thing, in my book. Hey, we already have lots of picks at home.
I just don't know. This vid comes up at the same time Fender is selling Player Teles, Lake Placid Blue Made in Mexico Specials no less, for $699.......that's $300 left over for custom pickups and a branded hard case.
Just with the added goodies and the great gig bag that guitar would be worth $900, theres plenty of guitars that are a few hundred extra that don’t come with anywhere near that added value.
hum for that price i would buy a good brand name just in case i wanted som of my money back...... if i did not like it if i got it. only issue i see with these types of guitars. you either love it or hate it.
Same, I'll pass thanks. What a certificate of authenticity worth from a company nobody's ever heard of? Unfortunately this is the new thing I've seen from China and even western unknowns to "legitimize" their products price. At best, that's a $300 guitar.

Great video, my American Tele came with ZERO tools, and a crappy gig bag.
