    thanks for mentioning the impatience factor - it is me, lol. but you make a great point, there's so many pockets (and i am the only one eating the harvests) that i can enjoy the other fast growers as the slower ones do their thing. plus i really want to make salads with radish greens, beet greens, etc. great video ty!

    We've got two greenstalks - one on the deck and one on the side porch. Started out with strawberries, lettuce and flowers. But as I think you've got the right idea with the carrots and beets. Even the kale! Do you like doing green beans in them? Makes for easier picking, for sure. Nice video!

      Thank you for the encouraging comment! I’m on the fence with beans. They grow great and produce a lot. But they get big and cover everything below it. I’ll probably stick with small bean plants like Haricot vert. Not beans that get all crazy big.

    I'm planning to buy my first Greenstalks this year. I rent and only have a large deck space at the moment. I've outgrown the grow-bags I used last year, and need to fit more in a smaller footprint. I plan to have one Greenstalk for herbs, flowers and lettuces, and a 2nd for root veggies, peppers, tomatoes, strawberries and maybe bush beans.

      You can use the new “leaf” size greenstalk for your small rooted plants-lettuce,greens,herbs. Then use the original size for your deeper roots-carrots, tomatoes,peppers, etc.
      I have four of them and mix up the levels depending on what grows there. If you’re not sure what you want to grow in each, get the original. It only has 30 spaces as opposed to 42, but most any plant will work in that version.

      Keep your grow bags. Things like peppers and tomatoes and cucumbers and squash grow great in a greenstalk but the plants quickly outgrow the space and need support. Easier in a grow bag. My squash have wrapped around my greenstalks.

      @@lauranonamaker2610I agree, people are not telling the truth when they claim they can grow vegetables that has deep roots ( ex: peppers & tomatoes) or like squash that spreads out with lots of vines. It gets to the point you will either have to repot in a bigger container or will produce smaller yields and smaller vegetables, even with the large original vertical containers. Some plants grew so tall, I had to remove that container off the tower. You also have to check the soil, especially if you are sowing with seeds . They water doesn’t always distribute enough in the pockets ,evenly especially veggies that has a deep root system., Definitely when it gets extremely hot outside too. I grew carrots & potatoes, jalapeños peppers ect , everything was small and not a lot yielded to harvest. It’s better growing vegetables like herbs, green onions, lettuce, flowers, basil, spinach ect
      I learned my lesson and will rethink what to grow in my greenstalk next spring.

    I'm trying pole and bush beans at the bottom with kale, chard and leaf lettuces at the upper tiers. I don't know what to put at the very top tier but maybe a root vegetable.

    • @teetstreats5682
      @teetstreats5682  Рік тому +2

      I would suggest radishes on the top. I live in San Francisco and they grow great, although in the summertime they bolt too fast. But spring and fall I always have radishes and they work great on the top tier. They can take a lot of sun and the top-tier always gets on no matter how it’s turned

    • @mush3199
      @mush3199 Рік тому +1

      That would totally work. Beets, radishes, turnips. Green bunching onions, etc

    What an inspiration this is! I have 2 Greenstalks and have NEVER had as much as you have in just one tier 🤦🏻‍♀️ Do you have any special advice on soil? Mine seems to get so compacted. The best things I’ve grown in 2 years is yellow cherry tomatoes, basil, and lots of flowers. But you had me at carrots, beets, and green onions! We are getting a cold frame “greenhouse” this year, so I’ll be able to grow winter crops for the first time here in zone 7. Well done - can’t wait to see more GS progress!

    It's not a bad carrot and if things get crazy that's a great carrot. I'm growing hydroponiclly and using the krakee metho is that how you spell it. I started it because ppl think they will be able to just put seeds in the ground and that's it buts it's levels to this stuff...

      I used to grow cannabis hydroponically. It seems weird to me to think about growing root vegetables hydroponically how’s that working out? Do you also have a Greenstalk?

    • @creativeflow952
      @creativeflow952 Рік тому +2

      @@teetstreats5682 I don't have Green stalk but I have one simular in my basket in Amazon. The hydroponics are doing well my peppers are growing like weeds I also have bok choy, mustard greens and the other greens. The colorful one's hell I forgot the name right off it grows tall and have yellow and pink, stems.... these where all experiments because I've never tried to even grow food. But from the looks of it we all better try do do it no matter where we are or how much space you have. The green stalk is a space saver that's the reason I consider it in the first place, just haven't pull the trigger. Once you get started in dirt it takes over before you know it you've got fertilizer and pots and dirt on the brain. 😆 🤣 😂 😹 happy harvest!!!

      @teetstreats5682  Рік тому +2

      I have two greenstalks and have not bought the leaf for reasons just as you’re suggesting. But my guess is it’ll grow and when it hits a bottle of pocket, it’s going to turn sideways or something. I also grow Oxheart or Parisian carrots these carrots, grow better in rocky soil, and they are kind of short and fat, my suggestion would be to try one of those varieties. I would also suggest a Uzbek golden carrot. These are also short, stubby carrots. It would be awesome if you’d report back to this thread and let me know how your carat endeavor works out in the leaf. Thanks for watching my video.

      I use promix water retention or miracle grow for pots. Don’t cheap out on your soil. It makes a huge difference. Right now I am doing side by side testing of three souls, but am already very disappointed in Expert Gardener Potting Mix. It is more like a cheap bag of compost than a potting soil.
