  • The GT86, GR86, and BRZ chassis' are without question the most prevalent RWD car in Japan with huge, growing aftermarket support and fan base. With Silvia and 180SX prices through the roof, a new RWD performance platform has risen to the top of the enthusiast market. The next generation's tuning platform.

    "This must be where the power is on these" As an 86 owner there's no power hiding anywhere except in the headers. I hope a swap culture evolves around these similar to the golden era Hondas. There's k swaps getting pretty common in the US. I think the Toyota 2GR v6 would be perfect in this chassis.

      Haha, dang. I thought it might be worth a few ponies but at speed I suppose it has a ram air effect...or better than without maybe. Like you said though, I'm sure the swaps will be coming. The first gen already has a good selection and I'm sure the GR86 will as well. But that said, HKS was making like 350 or 400hp on a stock FA24 and stock trans with their GTIII based turbo kit on their time attack car so it seems like there's decent potential for boosting a FA24 if the NA power adders don't do much.

      Seems like header design must be one of the refinements/improvements they made with the new engine to make more jam...why let the aftermarket header companies have all the horsepower when they can do it straight away. haha

    Glad to see so much 86/BRZ stuff, they are so much fun to drive. And pretty much the only car left in its segment, the only other maybe the ND.

    • @BRICKHOUSESPL
      @BRICKHOUSESPL  10 місяців тому

      Exactly. They kind of kept this whole segment of the automobile culture alive for the past ten years or however long it's been. Miata's are definitely super popular here as well. I've just never been on board with them in terms of overall dimensions or really fitting inside one. Something about them just feels different. Maybe the backseat in these gives the same feeling of s-chassis' and other sport coupes...though they're all nearly unusable. Haha

      @@BRICKHOUSESPL The usability and how good it feels out of the box is why i bought an gt86 over an ND a few years ago, can go to work, drive the kids to school, get my bike in it, buy groceries,do track days, autocross, twisty roads, winter snow drift etc :) I wanted a fairly modern sports car, so pretty much nothing else out there sadly at this price point, i just wish Toyota would have made the engine so it wouldn't be so fragile :)

    Yeah I've been thinking the same thing about these replacing 240sx. They are new, nice to daily drive, honestly the HP isn't bad and can be fixed with tuning and forced induction.
    I've daily driven a 240sx with a stock sr and my new 23 BRZ feels similar in hp if not better. Yeah the turbo in the sr made the car have a surge of power but you can get the same feeling by turbocharging a BRZ/86.
    At the end of the day the 240sx was a low HP drift car that could be modified however you liked and was practical to daily and saved you tires and tought good form. The 86/BRZ is just the modern day version. Low HP, unlimited mod potential, practical to daily drive, saves you tires, and teaches good form.
    The 240 had its time in the 90s early 2000s. The 350z filled that hole in the 2010s. Now it's time for the 86/brz to shine.

    Absolutely agree with you on gt86 being new & future "go to" low cost RWD sport compact chassis w/ continuously growing aftermarket support + essentially unlimited modification options (just wish they came with any motor other than a boxer even worse a NA boxer 4 cyl) have been figuring this would be the case for quite some time especially as they chose to originally launch under scion nameplate & not Lexus or even Toyota was really only a matter of time & market value / depreciation establishing lowest pricing until eventually enough are crashed/poorly modded with no taste/ neglected maintenance and clean low mileage ones end up costing more 20+ years old w/ 100's of thousands of miles then they did even brand new w/ zero miles just like s2000's & rx7's & silvia/240's are experiencing 😊😊(Yes JUN is and has been making CF GT mirrors)

      Hahaha, that's the vicious cycle of cars for sure! It took the quick adaptation of the GR86/BRZ to really highlight how popular these cars (here especially). 1st gen's looked the same for 10 years, so it was always hard to know what year they were or gauge how many were sold. With these being brand new and immediately there being a TON on the road, it really hit home how much enthusiasts have taken to these cars. Being an American and 240SX owner, a bad engine from the start is the norm. Hahaha. I'm just happy there's another lightweight, RWD chassis available for years to come.

    Only problem is the Subaru engine, I've heard guys doing track are having oil starvation issues, I would buy one in a heartbeat if it had a reliable Toyota engine, if the next gen has a gr Yaris engine that would be sweet!

    • @BRICKHOUSESPL

      The GR Yaris swap has to happen at some point. I can't wait to see some videos of DIY swaps at least. I'm with you though, a traditional 4 cylinder would have been awesome and even more so with a turbo. But if this joint venture is what makes this car viable to build then so be it, at least there's an entry level RWD coupe on the market.

    This car has great potential chassis/suspension-wise -- I remember Tsuchiya and Max Orido's review when it just came out. The owners just have to be proactive with the engine oiling issues that are brought about by g-forces when turning right -- probably the first modification owners should make when they're into trackdays and motorsports events.

    • @BRICKHOUSESPL
      @BRICKHOUSESPL  10 місяців тому +1

      For sure. As the aftermarket keeps growing and things like this become common knowledge, it will just become a routine "mod" versus a demerit to the car. Kind of like checking B-series valve lash, adding an oil cooler for SR's, etc. It's just a rough spell for the early adapters while they sort out the issues and pave the way for the rest of us.

    • @BRICKHOUSESPL
      @BRICKHOUSESPL  10 місяців тому

      That would be a neat pair! For me, the similarity to s-chassis lies in the fact that, just like 240's, you have to build the motor/turbo it or engine swap it to make power. Great base chassis to build on. Z's are just this magical unicorn that has an indestructible drivetrain and an engine that make all the jam you need to have fun and not enough to hurt itself. hahaha. Z's are definitely a better drift car base.

    Also agree on RG4, OG RG was always my favorite wheel over the years but now my favorite is RZII's & most recently the tc4's really grew on me glad I waited to order tc4 set tho as the new tc4se w/ machine center similar to tc3. Curious what's your opinion on the RGD2's I just sold mine to switch to rg4

    • @BRICKHOUSESPL
      @BRICKHOUSESPL  10 місяців тому

      RZII's and TC4's are both rad. Advan has a lot of good wheels at the moment. I've shipped quite a few GT's for customers via @jdmwheels.co and they are impressively lightweight as well while being a bit more "aggressive" looking than TC4's (obviously being forged comes at a cost). I like RGD's but not really into RGD2's - at least in the smaller diameters that would fit my DC2 - as the spokes kind of lack definition. They just curve like half circles versus like swooping out and hooking down like the other RG models (the more grappling hook design). Just my opinion anyway. They're super popular with Suzuki Swift and Roadster/Miata owners since they're offered in good 4x100 sizes.
