Answering no to Lexi's intro of "I hope you're taking care of yourself" like some kind of grown up version of saying "no we can't" to Bob the Builder's "can we fix it?"
i was intrigued by biography of x but as a political science student, i can't begin to fathom a world in which ronald regan of all people is a member of the green party like that's too unbelievable even for an alternate history/dystopian
perhaps underrated but i deeply appreciate the consistent use of timestamps in all of her videos especially when i need to refer back to a specific book in a wrap up like this i wish more youtubers utilized the feature
A couple notes on Vicious: unless he was also confirmed to be aromantic, Victor could be biromantic asexual, so you could still be right. Also, V.E. Schwab's full name is Victoria Elizabeth Schwab. I can't say for CERTAIN that Victor and Eli are named after her, but I think it's fun.
facts, i assumed that he was aroace based on the comments i got on that video but others here are saying he is confirmed biromantic as well which is news to me. done dirty 💀 i assumed people were only telling me he was ace because i was getting the vibe wrong but it appears i had sleuthed it out correctly all along
Youll probably not see this but i just wanted to let you know that watching your videos are some of the most relaxing part of my day. Im a student who always feels stressed and anxious and reading is my escape but i dont have enought time to do that. But watching your videos has motivated me to read more and create time for it. I just wanted to thank you
I had the privilege to speak to the author of station eleven and I asked her how she was able to make the book so hopeful. She basically said that life is not just darkness and misery and even in the worst times, will have joy. Humans will always have hope- that’s what makes us people. I thought that was super beautiful.
the timing thing is so real for emily st. john mandel’s books… the first time i read sea of tranquility was on a 10 hour plane ride and it was somehow the exact headspace i needed to be in for that book to HIT.
i’m really not much of a “pour my heart out in a youtube comment section” kind of person, but i wanted to say thank you. my life has also been spiraling into shit lately. i watch these longer videos in bits and pieces while trying to stomach the monotony while everything crashes down around me. hearing you talk about books reminds me of the things im passionate about and quiets the spiral for a little bit. i’m grateful i get to listen to you talk. much love, take care of yourself, and happy late birthday. :)
your reaction to station eleven makes SO much sense - i had the same feeling after finishing it, of not taking the little things for granted. it was great and i'm glad you felt the same way
Currently a little over half way through Project Hail Mary! I picked it up because of how much you loved it and I have to say it is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I’m not even finished with it and I just know that the rest of the book is going to be amazing. I also read My Dark Vanessa because of you and I will genuinely never be the same. Thank you for your book recommendations Master Lexi, I will worship you from this point on.
watching reading wrap ups really reminds me of how subjective reading is, because i ADORED our wives under the sea and its weird, mysterious, aloof atmosphere! love your videos lexi, i always put them on when i need something ineresting but calming to watch
lexi just knows exactly how to explain the vibe of some books in a way that blows me away. she literally knows how to phrase a feeling ❤️❤️ HAPPY BIRTHDAY FROM BRAZIL
i just finished biography of X YESTERDAY... perfect timing lexi i love you. my favourite quote was from the chapter where CM goes to milan: "what is time but a series of afternoons, evenings, seasons-something to sprawl over and enjoy, something to possess?" like ok catherine lacey you have cured my fear of aging thank you
Happy birthday Lexi!! I always love hearing you talk about books even though I don't read as a hobby anymore, the way you articulate your feelings and your humor is just so charming. I watch pretty much everything you upload and it's always a treat when you post. I hope you have (had?) a nice birthday, you deserve it :)
Your thoughts on Station Eleven actually did make me tear up a little - as someone with a science background I often find those connections of technology to humanity so easy to forget and it definitely made me want to read it!! Happy birthday, I hope you had an amazing day and cheers to another year!
happy birthday lexi!! you’re part of the reason that i finally got back into reading and i always find myself going into bookstores and remembering which books you recommend and it really helped me finally move into reading new books instead of being stuck where i left off in high school with young adult novels, i even revived my goodreads acc, so thank you 🥺
your scythe reviews made perfect sense and genuinely put words to what i thought about those books. and YES the end sequence to thunderhead was absolute gold
Funny Story might be my favorite Wmily Henry book, partially because it was the first one of hers I read. I’ve since then also read Book Lovers and Beach Read and loved both of those tremendously but it might be a “you never forget your first” kinda deal, since I’ve read Funny Story twice in the same year which never happens to me. The people that call Miles a loser definitely don’t know what an actual loser is, and being a people pleaser is part of his lore and it just makes me want to give him a hug. The book is very much about (to me) what it feels like to not be someone’s first choice, it kinda shares that with Beach Read in a way. I can understand why the conflict in the last 15% of the book is stupid and avoidable, but on the one hand I get why it plays out the way it does? I’m trying not to go into spoiler territory for people that haven’t picked it up yet so I’m being as vague as I can. Also I don’t know if I’ve laughed harder at the sentence “a shared cuckholding is the most fertile grounds for a relationship.” Emily Henry can really turn a phrase. I also started Emily Wilde last week and I’m about 4-5 chapters in and having a blast. I really love epistolary style novels, and the way it incorporates old wives tales as if they’re full truth. Definitely going to have to pick up the sequel after I catch up on more of my TBR. Anyway Happy Birthday Lexi!
Hi Lexi! I love your videos, I just had a comment on the way you discussed Vicious. You mentioned that one of the characters is asexual, which you were surprised by because you interpreted them as bi - but some asexuals do indeed also identify as bi. You can be asexual and biromantic (i.e., not sexually attracted to anyone but attracted romantically to all genders). Now, to be clear, I've never read the books, so it's possible that what you were saying was that this character was confirmed to be asexual ONLY, but the way you said it kind of sounded like you didn't know that, so I thought I'd mention it just in case. In addition, asexuality *is* queer all on its own. The character being asexual means they're queer regardless of whether or not they're also queer in an additional way. No hard feelings at all - this is just common mistakes I see people make when discussing asexuality and wanted to offer up some perspective as an asexual person myself! Thanks for all the wonderful videos you make
hey thank you for this comment! i have gotten some others as well - victor it turns out IS confirmed biromantic so i had the vibe right all along haha. i assumed people in the last video were telling me he was ace because i had the vibe wrong (not because he was ace AND still also into eli) so i figured he was aromantic as well and was speaking as if that was the case. 100000% acespec people are a part of the queer community!!! when i said it wasn't explicitly queer in the video meant their relationship dynamic, not victor himself as an individual. but it turns out their dynamic actually IS also confirmed to be explicitly queer sooooo. . .. . here we are haha. my bad for making the wrong assumption though, i definitely would have spoken about it differently if i had the additional context!!
Omg I cried so much in our wives under the sea. I cared SO much about the characters and was absolutely gutted. Also I went in not knowing that it was horror so that was a big surprise 😅
Big same. It's interesting to hear a different perspective on it but it legitamtely surprised me. Our Wives is THE book for me. I read it a year ago and I think I'm still not over it. I'm very emotional, but not in the "oh no, someone died in this romance book :("-kinda way. Armfield's writing style is BREATHTAKING to me. Maybe it's because I'm not only a reader, I'm a writer too. The sheer horror of griefing someone that's still there and you can't change anything about it but you still love them. The way she portrays it, THAT'S what it's about imo, not necessarily about the external plot. I felt so many things reading this and I'm so glad it's in my life
i love love love how long your videos are! they’re never too short and never full of nothing just to pad time. it’s all just a great time and i commend you for all of it
I halted playing dress to impress the moment I saw this upload, so you KNOW I'm excited about this. I totally feel you on not being able to read as many books this past month, I read maybe 2 books this past August which was kinda a bit disheartening for me, but you do a wonderful job at reminding me to be less hard on myself for not reading when I'm busy with other important things ❤️❤️ ALSO HAPPY BIRTHDAY ❤🎉
It is absolutely wild how the very nice words about finding some good things in life during the ad spot was exactly what I needed after a horrendous day at work. The actual video is also incredibly lovely and comforting too of course, but crazy that you hit me in the feels with the ad read
This year is the year I finally managed to rediscover my availability to read, thanks to regular buddy reads with my partner. You have been such a big part of getting me hyped for books and trying out new things! Thank you so much for that!
i read emily wilde because of ur description of it in the previous video and im obsessed w it it's so cute and just such a good romp. 10/10 will absolutely take ur recommendations again
yes this is completely true i didn't mean to imply otherwise - i hadn't actually read the book and was told he was revealed to be asexual in the context that it killed the ship, so i assumed he was aroace (or else why mention it for the same reason as you say - it alone wouldn't kill the ship). but it appears i was led astray as he is actually biromantic according to some other comments here!!
lexi you are a joy to listen to, absolutely love hearing your thoughts on literally everything, your perspective makes me see the world in ways i never thought i would so i just have to say thank you for that !!
Happy birthday Lexi!!! I want you to know your channel single-handedly got me back into reading. I take all of your recommendations as gospel and have genuinely read so many great books because of you! Thank you for being here ❤
As a nonbinary person (they/them), I have a lot of irl experience with the phenomenon of people not using any pronouns for me and instead just saying my name-and my pronouns don’t even change situationally! It usually comes from cis/het people who are actively trying not to use my former pronouns, but are being slow or reluctant to adopt the right ones. It makes me feel only half respected. Like people ARE willing and able to change their sentence structures, but they stop short of calling me what I’ve asked them to.
You are incredible and I've never felt more seen in personality, opinions and book taste! Thank you for being here and continuing to share with this community!! Happy (very) belated birthday! 🤍
i would love love to see captions on ur videos ik caption.plus does a really great job with other creators’ stuff! i always enjoy seeing u upload wishing u the besttttt :-)

39:21 “i think that the book did a great job of driving home how soul crushing it can be to lose a best friend, how that can be sometimes even harder than the actual breakup” you know, i’ve watched this video the day u posted it, on sept 8th, and it was the day that my best friend broke up with me. so to hear you say these words felt like.. you spoke directly to me :’) it was a like u put a little heart shaped band-aid over my wound
Happy birthday to one of the most entertaining youtubers I know, who also has an all time high rate of insane video rewatchability ❤Hope you're having better days than the a lot of ones you had to go through during this💌🫂Take care of yourself as well, and just remember that there are a whole bunch of people like me, who you comfort through your videos, more than you'll ever understand😊
I like hearing your takes on books even if they are different from my own opinion on them. It's cool to see books I've enjoyed or disliked about and books I haven't read, and now may want to read, being talked about. Happy Birthday and I hope you're having a great day!
Happy birthday, Lexi!! You are hands down my favorite book reviewer/person; the way you articulate your thoughts is admirable and so incredibly satisfying to listen to. For birthdays I like to gift books, so I drop a lil rec instead, if you don't mind (absolutely no pressure). The A Chorus of Dragon's series by Jenn Lyons is hands down the best high fantasy series I've ever read--it has the most batshit wild and complex worldbuilding and character arcs I've ever seen (political systems, religions, gender and sexuality, races, everything’s origin-she misses nothing), and Lyons knew the entire story from page one, which lends itself to /excellent/ reread value. It's hard to explain the plot because part of it is the characters themselves trying to figure out what tf is going on because they're getting conflicting information (these books are an exercise in being confused lmao) but essentially we follow Kihrin as he discovers a bit of royal heritage, but is kidnapped and learns that's the least interesting thing about him. Gods know his name, the most powerful wizard wants him dead, there's demonic prophecies that allude to him and a few others and the potential to end the world--and this whole time he's so fed up with it and trying to figure out who he really is. Such a delightful read that genuinely changed how I view and read fantasy (though some people struggle with book two, and it is the weakest of the series, but I still like it). Anyway, longer than I meant but based on some of your reviews I thought you might be interested--I hope you've had an excellent birthday and the year gets better for you
i love the scythe trilogy, it’s so so good and genuinely way better than i thought it would be. the collection of short stories was really good too & i’d recommend if you haven’t read it!!

you're my comfort channel, thank you for finding the time and effort to make these videos!

39:21 “i think that the book did a great job of driving home how soul crushing it can be to lose a best friend, how that can be sometimes even harder than the actual breakup”
you know, i’ve watched this video the day u posted it, on sept 8th, and it was the day that my best friend broke up with me. so to hear you say these words felt like.. you spoke directly to me :’) it was a like u put a little heart shaped band-aid over my wound

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEXI BEST BOOKTUBER
the crying and then sudden rage at summer mid cry is KILLING me lexi
I could listen to you talk about books for a whole day. Happy (belated) birthday!! ❤
Anyway, longer than I meant but based on some of your reviews I thought you might be interested--I hope you've had an excellent birthday and the year gets better for you
thank you for the rec bestie
i know its gonna be a good day when i see a new lexi upload in my feed
i love the scythe trilogy, it’s so so good and genuinely way better than i thought it would be. the collection of short stories was really good too & i’d recommend if you haven’t read it!!
Nothing more delicious than a brand new newlynova video right when I’m about to clean my room
Happy birthday! You are the only person whose book opinion I religiously follow…like the only. Thanks for hanging in there and continuing to plow through the trenches
happy birthday Lexi!!! you are so loved and appreciated. you matter so much :) thank you for being you
i picked up All My Rage because of this video. solid solid choice, read it in like two days and cried a LOT. 10/10 recommend.
I'm so with you on Our Wives Under the Sea-- it reaffirmed my distrust of the ocean but the emotional impact wasn't there.
happy birthday lexi thank you for always being a gift to us
