I’m a huge fan of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. Her descriptions are beautiful and not too lengthy, all of the characters are very nuanced and morally grey. It’s a whole universe and I recommend it!!! The second book The Vampire Lestat is my favorite book ever.
I really enjoyed reading A Dowry of Blood! It’s basically gothic queer vampires but it’s very traditional and I love how the main original vampire in the book is 100% a horrible person. The main character struggles with her feelings for him but SHE RECOGNIZES THAT HES ACTUAL SHIT AND DOES SOMETHING ABOUT IT :D
The writting is trully beautiful. Like that you liked it. We all know that feeling when reading. SPOILER... . . A chapter or two after the second wife came into picture I was done reading and dnfed the book. Like come on In Vienna she is a social butterfly by night and Dracula goes away for 2 days so she sitts on stairs at home in despare 🤨Why? How long have they been together already? And the second wife is a master of people and information manipulation and extrovertiert... and than she is depressed in a bedroom...it feels like she became his prisoner in just one chapter like over night... We see nothing of this abuse taking place over decades or centuries 🤨 As I see it this book is just an excuse to write a poliamory but call it a book about abuse because that makes it sound smart.
I've been eyeing Filthy Rich Vampires for the last few months so this has inspired me to finally put it on hold at the library lol. It sounds like a fun time!
To me Vampires are at their best, when they are creatures of Horror. There is one Vampire series where these Vampires are the scariest version ever in fiction. That is the Necroscope series by Brian Lumley. The Vampires are so inhuman and terrifying in their appearance, and the things they can do to their victims not just drink their blood, but they can do things where they can turn your body into a body horror abomination is just terrifying. These Vampires are like Bram Stoker meets HP Lovecraft. Where if you were to see Lumley's Vampires in real life. You would just drop what you are doing and run for your life trying to escape them in the same manner as a Deer tries to flee from a hungry Tiger. The Vampires are predatorial, inhuman, evil, and menacing, and that is what Vampires should be. Terrifying Monsters.
Filthy rich Vampires...vampire picks her up in a limo...the moment the sentence "pet, you are not naive you are pure" dropped I was out. Yes dnf that early in the book. Not for me. The writting was actually ok and beautiful cover. Carmilla like that book is a keeper. Midnight Sun...repetitive so I dnfed. Beautiful is new to me.
The only one of these books I’ve read is Salem’s Lot. As much as people try to hate on Stephen King, his popularity has endured because he’s written some really good novels.
