Travel with me in 1st class on the High-speed ICE between Leipzig and Munich! #germany #db #firstclass #firstshortvideo #leipzig #munich #travel #travelinspiration #europe #railway
I miss traveling in first class on German trains with my late wife in 1979, when traveling in first class meant one of those wonderful compartments with window seats facing each other, playing backgammon with the portable playing board balanced on our knees as the beautiful countryside passed by...
Additional information for those who don´t know: you can choose your desired seat online and you can also get food and drinks brought to your seat. In First Class both is free of charge.
Good tips! I sometimes change my seat in the app because they put all the auto-booked seats together and it’s awkward because half the train is empty and we’re sat right next to each other hahaha
You can have a nice cold Weizen anytime and whether you're alone or not. 🎉 I actually love having one especially on a first class ride. Feels so wholesome 😊
The first time I took a train from Leipzig Hbf to München Hbf, was on an Inter City from Berlin Zoologischer Garten. It was about 3 PM on Sunday 12th July 1998 (gosh, almost 25 years ago!) and it was the same day as the World Cup finals, France vs Brazil (France won). The conductor announced the halftime and end results over the loudspeakers. What a memory of Leipzig to Munich. I have not been to Leipzig since September 2013. I remember at some pub in Leipzig Hbf, enjoying a half liter glass of Hasseröder, before taking the local nonelectrified train to Bad Köstritz, home of the Köstritzer Schwarzbier.
The thing is you can get at-seat service in standard class on trains in the UK, such as LNER. DB 1st class is totally overrated for the massive jump in price over 2nd class.
yeah second class is pretty damn comfortable as well, in terms of the overall seat, i dont really feel much difference and would rather save money byytaking 2nd class
Not if you're over 1.80m tall, or if your neighbour's seat is taken, or if you're travelling for more than 2 or 3 hours. 2nd class on a crowded train is a horror for me. However, I don't care if food and drink are brought to my seat. I'm on a train and probably have a lot of time on my hands.
@@arindam_bose99 the politics. They invested too much money in roads and car industry and not enough in the train network which resulted in tracks being removed etc.
At this point I'm so used to 1st class ICE travel that I refuse to travel on the ICE in 2nd class. The spacious leg room is just great and the seats are so much better.
"Abteile" or in english compartments are dying. u can only find them on the ICE 1. In the ICE T u only have compartments in the first class but even then without doors and walls slightly higher then the seats.
The idea not to have a beer because you're alone is completely alien toa German on a train. You travel long distance, so you make yourself comfortable and have your Feierabend beer.
Just discovered your channel and I'm really glad I did. I'll probably need these tips when I get a year in Germany with work placement in a few years so thanks for this great content !
ime there's very different first class experiences depending on the ICE version and the train line. My personal experience so far (i've gotten myself an upgrade every now and then when the bonus points allowed it) was a lot better with spacious desks for my laptop, free gummybears and whatnot and almost never anyone around me.
i always travel 1st class with Frühbucher Rabatt, it's usually just something like 8€ more expensive than 2nd class but has a 5€ seat reservation included, so that's a nobrainer.
How early is "Frühbucher" tho? I really only travel by ICE 2 times per year (4 times counting the return trips) but to me it seems completely random whether I pay 120€ or 30€ for the same trip even though I always book about 2-3 months in advance.
@@JJKMagic There is not really a "Frühbucher" discount. There is only a distinction between "saver fare" and "flex fare", but you can still buy a "saver fare" a few hours before departure. It's more like with airline tickets: if few passengers are expected, the ticket is cheaper than if many passengers are expected or many tickets have already been sold.
But do you really need one, especially in 1st? I've been traveling "viz Doitschä Baan" for over 20yrs and have never had to sit on the floor, never bought that Reservierung. Also, getting on the train at HH Dammtor/Südkreuz before the Hbf really helps getting a good seat.
Funny enough, I'm german but I've never traveled first class and looking at your space .. it doesn't look much better than 2nd class. Which is also surprising to me.
hm everyting loosk normal. Table is normal size like second class, the view is the same everyting is the same. Ok you sit alone and get more legroom and get to hang your coat but thats the extra price fore ? Introverts does pey extra every time
So infuriating how first class is all that luxurious and comfortable and in "Holzklasse" they don't even manage to have enough staff to provide clean (let alone working) toilets...

Is still there, I mean the seat u mean
the seat also exist in second class.
@@1no0b60 Yes, but 2nd class compartments are not as comfortable as first class. That's the memory

Sadly seat reservation is not free of charge in a first class ticket anymore... 5,90 €, its unbelievable.

So true! Maybe next time :)
Thats just because every german has a drinking problem. Grüße aus Coburg 🍻

As a BahnCard 100 I holder I think 1st class is kind of overrated, getting drinks and food served at your seat is really nice though.
Ok I’m jealous 👀

German trains are fantastic. If only they were reliable...
Wdym by not reliable ?
@@arindam_bose99even tho its true Germans are always on time, this is not the case for trains in Germany.
@@LiftsInGermany oh I thought this was a case in India only 🤪 btw is there any specific reason for that ? Just curious. Thanks :)
@@arindam_bose99 the politics. They invested too much money in roads and car industry and not enough in the train network which resulted in tracks being removed etc.
@@LiftsInGermanymore specifically a delay/ cancellation on one track can cause a chain reaction and therefore more delays.

not THAT much better :/
I love Christmas time. Already looking forward to it.
That is lovely
You should book a ticket in a "Abteil" where you have ur own door and cabin
Those are being phased out one way or the other, unfortunately

Great thing is the lower tier seating is not that bad...
...in contrast to flying here in America (I never flown in Europe)
Nice, i live in Leipzig 🤭

Frame 1 and I was confused cos it looked like Leipzig but at the same time not because of the, as then explained what it is, Christmas lighting.
Do you have any idea how to purchase a high-speed train ticket from Germany to Luxembourg?
how much was your fare?
