I just repainted my kitchen walls and ceiling and wood trim in Chantilly Lace. The cabinets are the 1989 honey oak. Because we aren't sure what direction we are going to take the kitchen, we have left cabinet choices alone for now. We may end op reconfiguring the kitchen altogether, so I'm not committing to painting them at this time. Can a Dove white go up against a Chantilly lace wall? Out counters are Silestone quartz in a homogenous bend of blue, tans, white and grays. They read very neutral, with a bit of a dark blue pop. color is Blue sahara.
I’ve been chipping away at my home projects. I originally wanted white cabinets but then thought I would go with Revere Pewter because I have all white appliances and replacing them is not an option. With that said, what are your thoughts on a white cabinet paint color that goes with white appliances? Preferably BM? Otherwise, do you have a feeling on white cabinets with white appliances vs Revere Pewter with white appliances? Countertops are a Winter Carnival Granite look which is rich red/browns w cool grey and cream accents. Floors are a warm beige with a tad bit of cool grey accents running through them.

Can you please do some videos on the whites in the SW Emerald Urethane line as this line seems to be replacing oil base paints as the best choice for painting trim and cabinets? I read your article on them and gained some direction. However, videos would be sooooo awsome! I learn so much from your comments as you compare colors.
what about gauntlet gray for the top cabinets with nice moulding on top of it to make it the focal point of the kitchen, also extra white cabinets on the bottom ones to contrast a bit with etheral white walls? is it too crazy? i am a contractor and colors are not my thing, but I feel like the dark color on the mouldings on top of it could make it look really cool.
Hey! Usually, a kitchen can look a bit off-balance with the uppers being darker than the lowers - it 'should' be the other way around (but each to their own, for sure). Adding moldings to the top of the cabinets? Definitely, same goes for the little valance piece you can add under the uppers (that would hide under cabinet lighting). As for Gauntlet Gray, in particular, it still has some life left, but SOOO many people are getting away from gray (dark gray has a bit more life). In general, if it's for resale, I'd stay away from gray :).
Oh, it's so friggin' hard, right? The great thing about white cabinets is that they are timeless. This means that while they might not be the 'current trend', they tend to work for the average home and average owner/buyer. AS for what's trendy and for how long, right now, off-white and light-depth cabinets are hot (but fussy). I find the cabinet trends are changing a bit faster these days - the 10 year cycle isn't as long. This is good to know. I’ve been painting everything inside my home BM Simply White. My next project is the kitchen which will include my cabinets. Your hesitation about using Simply White on cabinets now has me ambivalent. 🤔 I don’t understand how designers are having paint mixed at a certain percent. When I first started painting inside my home I asked the BM dealer if they could make Simply White at 75%. They told me no and that it’s all computerized as far as the tints go and there’s no way to override it. So how are designers doing this???
Weird! I mean, some colors CAN'T be lightened, as they have such little tint that any adjustment would change the color drastically. With its high LRV, Simply White could be one of those. However, most store employees have no problem doing this for me - I have it done all the time!
Thank you so much for your videos. I have learned so much. Could you suggest a Sherwin Williams paint that is a dupe for BM White Dove? My painter likes to use Sherwin Williams' paint. Thanks.
Why are you asking if white cabinets are still “trendy“? White cabinets are enduring they will always be acceptable in the kitchen given that the design aesthetic of the rest of the kitchen is also pleasing. And saying that the design aesthetic of the rest of the kitchen is pleasing, does not mean that it has to be over the top in terms of how much money, you spent to make it look magazine glamorous. White however, will always endure in both kitchens and bathrooms because we like things to look clean and bright. Trendy is not really a word you apply to the colour white.
Hmmm, you clearly took my vid a different way :). I'm asking it because I get asked it all...the...time by my clients. I'm also saying that white cabinets ARE timeless, and whether they're 'trendy' or not depends on the finishes they're surrounded by!
