Hi, I demo-ed the Heddphones today, on the Adi2Pro on the "high power" mode, and they were ridiculously loud! You might have tested the Heddphones on 'low power' mode which is a good -22db lower than what the 'high power' mode puts out. Do check again and put an update in your description.
thanks for thiis video and elaborate comparison! i have subscribed to your channel! 1) would you choose heddphones )w Can opener plugin) over LCD X for mixing? 2) which of the two is more comfortable if worn for an hour and a half at a time? 3) how do heddphones play with RME UCX 2? thankyou!!!!! llook fwd to your response!
Tried them. Returned. Nice sound. Incredibly uncomfortable. Sound wasn't nice enough to deal with the clamping pressure. Many equally good sounding headphones, with much greater comfort, and a fraction of the price.
I've ordered them and now I got them here.. they sound good but they are very flat nothing excited and very unspectacular. That's why I will return them and try out the new Focal Clear MG's
Is it enjoyable to listen to for casual music listening? I listen mostly to soundtracks with orchestra or jazz. I also love to listen to ambience sounds like forest or river sounds.
I was wondering, would you say the Headphone is more for mastering purposes due to it's level of detail and use a LCD-X for mixing? Or is the Hedd completely capable for both jobs?
The heddphone is definitely capable of both, however it NEEDS crossfeed for mixing to get anything to translate properly, whereas the LCD-X sounds like a set of near fields without having to do anything.
👍🏾👍🏾 Thank you for this review for studio guys. I was looking into getting the LCD 4X headphones but then the Heed headphones came out. I was on the fence between the two for mixing and mastering. The choice is now clear the LCD 4X. Thanks again....perfect video.
I have tried these and the HD800s but havent got a chance to A/B test them. Im a soundstage hog when it comes to headphones. Just wondering if anyone can confirm if the soundstage is as wide or wider than HD800S?
Both headphones have an exceedingly wide soundstage, but the presentation is very different, so it’s hard to define what’s wider, as the difference between the AMT and the dynamic driver make such a difference.
@@ScanProAudioTV oh wow! I didn't expect you to respond. Thank you so much for the input. I thought given they are both in similar price bracket, the Heddphone would be my pick over the HD800S. Given your review and many others keep repeating the detail and resolution of this Heddphone.
I’ve got a Drawmer MC2.1 to drive these and I love them BUT I feel like they lack of loudness. I can bring them to distortion setting my UAD Arrow at 50% of the output volume and 75% of the headphone output on the MC2.1 and even at that level they won’t sound loud enough for me (I like to have loud mixing sessions to understand how the track would translate at high volumes) Is my setup the problem or just my preference?
It’s your amp distorting, not the headphones. Try one of the topping amps, driven from line outputs for an example and it will be like night and day for headroom and a sizeable improvement on detail.
@@ScanProAudioTV can you suggest me one of those topping amps? I'd like at this point to return my Drawmer and sell my UAD interface for an audio interface that would replace both for the DAC and the headphone amp
@@mnnrmusic no, the only spls that can cope with HEDDphones are the high end like phonitor 2. Topping a90d or D70 are the best match and can also support 4 pin XLR Balanced. DX7 if you want a DAC as well. But even the L50 would do a great job for not loads of money.
I think i tried these at can jam London last year, although the midrange was detailed, i couldn't get a decent seal for the sub and they were really uncomfortable on a big head like mine. Definitely not looking to take them into a studio soon.
@@ScanProAudioTV there are so many people at can jam that you cant have a good listening sessions . You should definetly give them a try since they are really the very best
You might think at 42 ohm these would be easy to drive-but you had the opposite experience? I was just thinking about getting these but had seconds thought for the reasons you've found.
They're easy to drive from an impedance standpoint, but the sensitivity is 87 dB SPL for 1 mW (from the Hedd website) which is really low for a headphone. Compare them to something like a Beyer dt 1990 that has a sensitivity of 102 dB SPL for 1 mW and you can see why you need so much power.
@@ScanProAudioTV Someone to,d me that version 2 of these allow bigger extended heads to fit BUT that a consequence of this modification is that the version 1 “snug” fit is compromised in the second version, so if you move your head such as forward to look at your writing pad or laptop(I.e. working at a desk with these on your head), the Version 2 slips off so you MUST only keep your head still in the audiophile listening posture. Is this true in your experience of the version 2?
sound profile of this headphone actually suggests it's dark and boomy... It's not bright for younger ears at all... It's just that younger ears can actually hear a wider range of top-range frequencies than you can. That doesn't change the properties of the headphone though, it just means younger ears can actually hear what the headphone ACTUALLY sounds like... And it's dark (the top-end is recessed) and boomy (Bass frequencies are boosted) by nature.
Absolutely nothing and they made me send them back too :-( however, i'm buying a set once i finish building my new control room and have some spare pennies. However am finding its actually easier to get a set of these than get plasterboard delivered at the minute! - Tom
Scan Pro Audio 😂lol. Really liked your other videos here I felt like a bit biased bcz I have been watching many videos regarding this, most of them were like it’s made to enjoy music rather than making music, I am looking for my new pair I am confused to select between beyerdynamics dt990pro vs this one, can you suggest me if possible?
@@nagendranayak5010 Don't buy DT990, also not 1990. The soundstage is too small, the highs are to... high. Also they could have more detail. What is sounding like detail is just the overly bright signature. Imo the 1990 is really overrated, but if you can get them under 250€, they are worth the money.
Solid, fast & punchy, as deep as you need it to be. It's very even, a hype free zone, definitely very linear frequency response, possibly could have done with a gentle lift for the subs to make them a bit more prominent, but that's me as a mix engineer talking and not having my mastering head on.
Egg Head
To be fair any head will look ridiculous with these things seated on them

Can you give examples? What are these alternatives at a fraction of the price?
Well… it is for their amazing revealing quality that I’m going to get these cans for mastering!
Can you use them for tracking vocals in the live room? They seem open back. Does the sound leak out a lot?
No, absolutely open, don’t use for tracking.
you say exactly the opposite of what Mastering Guru Streaky said about the HEDDphone
Do you really need the SPL? I mean there are room emulation plugins like Waves Abbey Road Studio 3 and dSONIQ.

coincidentally... We've just taken delivery of a S4X for this very task
@@ScanProAudioTV Looking forward to it!
I wish they will make a closed version of these and I'm sold!!!!!
More than 700g of weight, that would be a bad idea

Hi thanks for a great review of the Heddphones can you tell me would the RME babyface pro have enough power to run them?
Definitely not.
You’d want to run an external amp for them. Perhaps a dac run from the optical out in spdif mode.
