  • I've had my Honda CRF300L Rally for a year now and have mostly ridden and enjoyed it without making too many changes or adding new Honda CRF300L mods. I've decided to keep it a bit longer and maybe even take it on some longer rides like BDRs in the future, so I decided it's time to give it a bit of a refresh and add some more useful Honda CRF300L Rally Mods as well as fix some nagging issues that have existed for a while like a broken turn signal and messed up rally tower.

Mr. Dork. There is another way that works pretty slick if you have a welder. You can put a nut over the top of it and weld through the hole to the broken off stud or bolt or in your cast the extractor, then turn it out like a regular bolt. It works great and that's my main go to on even the worst broken bolts.

I took my Rally to Mardi Gras yesterday., I got so many compliments, looks, stares, and questions from a bunch of drunk people. It was like being an alien amongst a bunch of Harley Davidsons. Even the cops liked it though.
The lower crash bars for this bike just make more sense, since it’s that big bulky lower fairing that gets messed up before anything else. And Zeta hand guards, with triple tree mounts, are so rigid and durable, that it protects so much of the upper portion of the bike when you crash. I’ve done it about 4 times so far and zero damage. It still looks new.
Motogadget m-blaze LED turn signals from Revzilla is a solid option.

  • @JoshSinnott97

It's great to see another guy on UA-cam that's not a beginner rider keeping this bike. I got my learners permit for a motorbike yesterday so I've been wanting a crf300 rally but you hear so much noise from people complaining that there's better bikes out there. The only competitor this has is a drz400e but it costs more for a 20 year old bike with no fuel gauge and uses almost 2x more fuel. The extra power of that bike would be fun, I'm very torn between the 2 models but I think the crf300 rally would be the smarter choice for a 50/50 bike

    Definitely not a how-to video 🙂
Not your fault, of course. You haven't been taking lawnmowers and lawn tractors, and cars and motorcycles apart since you were seven.
You've never done drum brakes, rebuilt a carb, don't know why a two stroke has two rings and a four stroke has three, rebuilt calipers, rewound a stator.

I feel for you on the broken bolt. One of the engine mounts on my CB500X broke and I shouldn’t be allowed near power tools. The “farmer fix” of drilling straight through and putting a nut on the other end doesn’t look the best but it’s solid.

I'm surprised the 300 Rally is so popular. It weighs almost as much as a DR650 for I think the same price but with half the torque and worse suspension and is actually more top heavy than the big single. You could argue the DR has a carb and only five gears but neither give issue. A DR is faster in fourth or fifth gear than a CRF can go at any altitude and the revs are lower at highway speeds.

The more mods you add to a stock bike the more unreliable they become. The aftermarket follows popular bikes like a wolf pack follows a buffalo herd. So there are a lot of such products pimped as "improvements." Japanese automotive engineers are some of the best on Earth. They practice "all-in" engineering. That is, almost everything is made to work as a whole. Mods, especially engine, exhaust, and wiring, violate that engineering. You end up with a bike that is not only less reliable, but then becomes a nightmare to troubleshoot. As an example, simple wiring spices become a point of failure that did not exist on the stock bike.
