This was a heartbreaking breeders cup. One I would like to forget. I was happy to see the derby winner, Unbridled, get this win. Very courageous move to go between horses like that. I was so proud of him.

It is still very difficult to watch any of the 1990 Breeders Cup -- that was a very sad day!!!

Go For Wand? I remember. I was 15, at our local track, and forcing my dad to make illegal 3 dollar show bets every race.
Go For Wand was the shit. Terrible to see her go down like that.

Unbridled´s trainer Carl A. Nafzger (born August 29th. 1941 in Plainview, Texas) was awarded with the highest honours of two different sports in the same year: In 2008 he was inducted to both National Museum and Hall of Fame Racing in Saratoga Springs, New York and to Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas. Before Nafzger was involved in horse racing he was a Rodeo bullrider champion. Congratulations Mister Nafzger! Greetings from Venezuela.

+Caroni100 I'm happy you posted this information about Carl Nafzger. He is one of the great racing icons, and his moment with Ms. Genter during the stretch run of the Derby was a moment I will always cherish. The way he nurtured not only the horse but also the owner proved what a talented individual he really was. A true gentleman who excelled in all he did. God Bless you. Please take good care :-)

Good night and thank you very much. Thirty six years later, those loving and tender images of Carl Nafzger and Mrs. Frances A. Genter (1898-1992) are still a part of "This is an ABC Special Presentation" segment (or is NBC?) I became a horse racing fan since my father (RIP) took me at La Rinconada Racetrack one Saturday afternoon when I was a nine year-old kid (I´m 53) He worked from Monday to Friday as a public accountant in an electricity company, and two weekends a month he worked in a locker betting at the racetrack. The view of thoroughbreds, the jockeys with their colourful shirts, the track. the gardens and the crowded grandstands shocked me (in a positive way, of course)

RIP Izvestia...how heartbreaking his story was.he was to be retired to stud after his last race and they'd already started advertising him as a stud when he was fatally injured

When you bet on a horse like Unbridled, running the way he did here, it makes you feel very clever.
Outside post guided to the inside to save ground, then squeezing through under Pat _Wait All_ Day to win by 3/4 length in last strides.

Pioneer of The Nile is American Pharoah's father. Unbridled is Arrogates grandfather.......Arrogates father is Unbridleds Song. ;) Arro gets his zippity doo da from both his grandfather AND his father. Wish they would continue to race him as a 5yr old next year. They get bigger, better and faster by age 5. BUT they will retire Arrogate after his BCC run Nov. 4th.

That post postition had to cost Unbridled atleast 5 lengths. 5 seconds in to the race and he's already 10 lengths behind. Great closing job by Unbridled, ride by Day and training job by Nafzger.

Coming from the worst post position in America ( they litterally start on the turn) Wait all day, Pat Day saved all the ground, & got up to get the $in deep stretch! Lucky for the super hot pace...❤️🙏👉🇺🇸👍

Cuando la yegua (Go for Wand)
se fracturó, muchos de nosotros estábamos listos para tirar la toalla.
Oramos en el recinto de jinetes. Fue el día más triste en la historia de
    las Copas de Criadores"

Everyone talks about the ride by Pat Day (which was masterful), but don't overlook the ride by a young Mike Smith on Thirty Six Red. He nearly stole the race on a horse that was far below the quality of the horses that beat him.

Ibn Bey with a competent jockey would be a Breeders Cup Classic winner. Maybe Unbridled doesn’t have the same stud career. Maybe entire lines never happen.
