Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.
As a Scottish history tour guide people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation if your from the US. So I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.
Here's another video with Max Miller ua-cam.com/video/zk0FUS3Oq8s/v-deo.html
Wow! What are the chances. I already follow both of you! Great video.
Dub, King of Scotland. that's your black king isn't it. Lol
I do love this channel.. I'm 46 and just starting my first year on my degree in history.. thank you Bruce..
Thank you so much for having me on, Bruce. That day was such an awesome experience and I can’t thank you enough for setting it all up.
Love that even in someone else's video, you dropped a hardtack reference!
What a perfect combo! I love both of your channels!
This is freaking awesome!
I was genuinely expecting the hardtack knock
@@grimdarhk right! Where is the hardtack knock, WE NEED THE HARDTACK KNOCK!
Loved it. Was a great bonus to have Max on, thoroughly recommend his channel.
To make a Scottish king, mix together, Haggis, heather, Whisky and Iron Bru and forge in the crucible of a battle with the English. Once victorious, place upon a stone and allow to reign for 50 years
Mary Berry is onto it...
That's a great point about the switch between tanistry being part of the propaganda of the Macbeth play to pretend it didn't exist. Also great to see Max on the show.
My original exposure to the Stone of Scone was via Terry Pratchett's Thud, where dwarf kings are crowned on a loaf of hardtack called the Scone of Stone. I didn't initially realize it was a reference to a real world practice. So it's really striking me funny (if a little confusing to my tired brain) to have Max on to make bannocks for this particular episode. 🤣
You have gained a subscriber with this collaboration. I came for Max and stayed for you, you have a lovely Scottish brogue and calm delivery of interesting history that I knew very little about.
I was aware of tanists as an old Celtic form of hailing an heir but didn't realise it was still the case in the 11th century. I look forward to catching up on your back catalogue.
Welcome on board Jen
Likewise here. There's so much I don't know about Scottish history, and it's actually rather nice to find out just how much I don't know.
Scottish “burr” Irish “brogue”.
@@iainclark7044 thank you for continuing my Scottish education
Speaking of the Bishop of Dunkeld...behind the altar at the Cathedral of Dunkeld one will find the tomb of the Wolf of Badenoch, one of the many colorful figures of Scots history. He would make a great subject for Scottish History Tours!
I know. I've taken folks there often. It's a lovely setting
Max is great, I've been watching him for a while, glad you had him on Bruce! Very interesting program. Thanks for another wonderful piece of history!
It was a pleasure
Now this is a crossover I was not expecting but am more then glad to see!
Welcome to our world baby😎
Good morning from America Bruce my friend! A fine tale on a fine Saturday morn. A cup of coffee and a Scottish tale to start my birthday off! That's right, you read that correctly, it's once again time to celebrate the arrival of yours truly into the world! Seriously though, good day to you Bruce and good day to all of you history buffs out there.
Meal do naidheachd
Happy Birthday! 👍
Happy Birthday, Fear the Kilt! 🎂
Have a great day...best wishes from the wirral peninsula....
I can't hear MacBeth without thinking of the actors in Blackadder III.
🤣
2 of my favorite youtubers in an even bolder cross over then the MCU! Max is great!
MCU?
@@ScotlandHistoryTours That would be the Marvel Comic Universe (it's not my thing, but have a couple of friends who are 50y.o. and still spending a lot of their pocket money on comics).
Nice to see two great shows coming together.
Bannock was a main staple growing up. And I still make it regularly. Been eating it just shy of 6 decades. I don't use yeast. 🇨🇦👍🏽
Strangely, I was sure I learned in western Canada that Bannock was a native food.
@@LiqdPT you'd be correct. I grew up thinking that too! Found out later in life that this wasn't the case. I have 2 ancestors that came from Orkney islands and married Indigenous women in the mid1700's ( clan Anderson) So I assume that they , like others brought it here.
A timely posting, and as we’ve come to expect, brilliantly presented. 💐
Thank you kindly!
I just received a “like” and I’m still chewing my bannock! From your fan on Vancouver Island.

Fabulous again Bruce with the story & the food looked yummy 😋
It was surprisingly tasty
Thanks Bruce very good video.
Please keep up the history of this great country..
We will!
Am getting ma gran kids into your programme trying to wean them of there phones is hard, but worth it...
Love your videos Bruce, I have learned many things from them
Thank you for your hard work
Very welcome
Seconded....
What a surprise guest appearance! And a nice handling of referencing the recently passed queen
A great touch...
Sorry if you've already answered this, Bruce, but I've just watched a trailer for the new film 'The Lost King' and although the scene in it was brief, I'm sure I saw you having a pint with Sally Hawkins's character!
You did indeed. I'll have more interactions with her in the full version. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a minor player
@@ScotlandHistoryTours ah....the camera never lies....
@@ScotlandHistoryTours I was looking forward to the film anyway, but now I'm doubly excited!
"It gets kind of crispy, like modern hardtack..." TOC-TOC!
YAY!! A collab between You and Max Is AWESOME!!
We had a great time
I can remember sitting on the stone in front of the Chapel many years ago. And it was pouring down. My uncle was taking me for a drive visiting historic sites he loved.
A crossover!!! I love it! :D
Me too!
He makes me want to visit Scotland immediately.
Came here for Max, but I have just subscribed to this channel. I look forward to going through the back catalog.
Brilliant Vickie
Appreciate the post edit to add the context of Her Majesty’s passing. Love the work
As the organizer for my own Scottish clan MacDuff, thank you for including MacDuff and the Fife connection between MacBeth and The Bruce.
Please do a video about the bravery of Isabella MacDuff, as the Fife offspring, to ride to crown Robert the Bruce. Her imprisonment and the clan being the only one allowed to have the lion rampant on our flag etc. (and our privilege to crown the Scottish kings) is an inspiration.
Theres a stone in faifley you really need to check out Bruce :) the Cochno stone
What, a Stone of Destiny?
@@ScotlandHistoryTours No bud its a huge ancient star chart!
@@ScotlandHistoryTours I only found out about it a short while ago and thought. Bruce needs to see this!
Good to see two of my history tubers hanging out.
Well done, Bruce, it's interesting how the ceremony contrasts to my initial mental picture of a coronation, and the thinking behind it.
I found both channels around the same time! 'Bout lost my mind when you mentioned Max! Y'all need to do more colabs.
😂😂 Send the air fare and we'll get that organised
@@ScotlandHistoryTours Bruh, if I could, I would......
What a coincidence you made this video now, great timing

Ah, welcome aboard Heather! Let's ride this history train😎
@@ScotlandHistoryTours maybe the train will pull into Brunanburh/Bromborough 937AD,Wirral for the Scots day trip to the wirral....
Bruce has a way of making a complicated subject and making it understandable and interesting
Ah you're kind
Thanks Bruce. I'll check out Max' channel. I was under the impression that Ground Ovens were in use back then?.. and possibly will be again in very near future too. It all depends on our Miss Trusst 😂
😂
They did have them (though quite rare) but they were used for bread and pies.

This video makes my day! My two fav internet dudes coming together! Beautiful! Thanks for this!!!
I'm a Duncan Alexander descendant..king me 🥴🔨 but seriously thanks Bruce another great informative video 👊🏼 Awesome seeing Max Miller dropping some food history! As a Chef traveler I always felt learning the history of a people's food helped me understand their culture a little better and provided a better experience
Glad you enjoyed it. The time with Max was great fun
Nice collaboration. I love Max!
This is a dream collab to see. I love Max !!
I love Max too... and his brother Jesse was cool as well
Thank you, ahem, for remembering my role in the inauguration of Scottish kings. ; )
I remember as a wee boy being introduced to one of the gents who stole the stone from the cathedral.
My old man was quite excited but it meant nothing to me then.
Unfortunately...
STOVIES...I'll bet thats whit they ate

YAAAAAYY!😃 Ever since Max said he was traveling to Scotland, I was praying for a crossover episode.🙏 My prayers have been answered. Thanks!

I love history. Normally, I lose interest after a certain point. Your charisma is the remedy for that. I'm glad I found your UA-cam channel.
I'm glad too
Kinda crazy to hear Max say “hard tack” and not see the clip.
Bruce posted this in reply to my similar comment: ua-cam.com/video/5tvcQTAvSXs/v-deo.html
Thank you Bruce!! I always have to relearn this history, it’s complicated ❗️
I’ve been to the castle and it left a deep impression- appreciate your love of the history ❣️
Here to help M'lady
You learn something new every time you do a video - i never knew there was a Dynasty named Canmore and there is an Scottish image site called the same

Great bumping into both you fellas on Skye last week. Nice to see you've done a collab video too.
And there's another two to come on Max's channel, so hook up with him

Thanks for sharing, I love learning about my MacBeth heritage from so long ago. You’re bringing history to life! I appreciate your enthusiasm. Keep up the great work.
~distant granddaughter to the King MacBeth.
How do you make a Scottish king like Macbeth? Well finding three witches on a heath is probably a good start!
Dinny be daft😖
Your reply to this comment needs translation 😂🤣 (not for me btw)
I know how you get an English king.
You get a German or a Scot or a Welshman or a Frenchified Viking or a Viking or a French man.
Not been an English dynasty since 1066.
At a Max subscriber I'm overjoyed by this collab but a little disappointed by the lack of hard tack taps at their mention.
Maybe next colab there'll be more hard tack

Gorgeous sweeping vistas, craggy out crops, picturesque relics... but, enough about Bruce; the landscapes in this video are beautiful too.
Thanks for another great presentation; entertaining and informative.
Another great video Bruce, that last bit made me hungry, I'm going for a plate of stovies 😀
🤮I've always hated stovies
A'reyt Bruce. Apart from being jealous of the food as I was eating a bowl of fruit and fibre, this was a very interesting video again.
The description of the ceremony was very timely. The next UA-cam video recommended that I watched was accession ceremony, and at the end of which was a confirmation of the Act which applies to the Scottish church. It answered in part the issue of the title of Charles III, which no doubt your more Jacobite leaning fans will have heard of before in your videos. Perhaps a prompt for further details in future videos as well?
Ooooh

I was there a few years ago. Very interesting.
Two of my favorite presenters.
Scone Palace is where my eldest, then about 18 months, said her first complex sentence. We had toured the palace and stopped for a treat in the gift shop/tea shop that was in the basement at the time. As we stood outside waiting for my mother, a peacock in full spread approached us - approached my daughter, in particular! She stood breathless, with her shortbread forgotten in her hand, as this magnificent creature trod daintily up to her and *snatched* that cookie out of her hand - and then hollered at the top of her lungs, “THAT BIRD STOLE MY SHORTBREAD!!!”
She turned 39 this week. I’ll have to ask her if she has any memory of the occasion at all ❤
I see this kind of behaviour on a regular basis
Oh nice, Bruce and Max! 🤩🤩🤩

Hi Bruce, I love your channel about Scottish history. Can you please do a episode on the history of Loch Lomond and the trossachs.
Just went there recently on holiday and it was a lovely place.
I've made a couple of videos in that area. Rob Roy for example
@@ScotlandHistoryTours great film too....

I have traced my ancestors back to Robert King of Dunbar and then back through various kings and deacons in various kingdoms, including Duncan Ceanmor of Athol to King Connial de Tir and then back to Ireland. It is certainly a fascinating period of history and the intermarriage between kingdoms was on a scale I hadn’t previously appreciated.
Hold on. You filmed this before the Queen died. Very Spooky timing. Any chance you can do one on the last time Newcastle United won a trophy? 😉
Too busy working on the St Johnstone video
@@ScotlandHistoryTours I think "miracle worker" is a tad above your status.🤣🤣
@TheToonMonkey it'll take more than a miracle for Newcastle to win a trophy. 😁
@ The ToonMonkey. I have on the my almost 90 year old Newcastle fan neighbour that he could remember them losing to Bradford City in 1911 FA Cup final in the year the new cup was made in Bradford and the claret and amber was popular enough for Motherwell to copy.
@@ScotlandHistoryTours that would be cool...our manager, at Tranmere Rovers ( Mickey Mellon..) would want to see that too...

Have you ever done a story about the Stone of Scone. With recent events of Queen Elizabeth II passing and King Charles III becoming King and sometime next year I read will be his Coronation. It would be interesting to hear about the history behind the Stone of Scone and how it plays a important part in that Coronation ceremony. Thanks Bruce
