This is a pretty comprehensive overview of the 500. I haven't found one online this good. I'm just glad to see another rider use their bikes daily as an only-form of transport. I ride a Buell 500 every day to work, but the GS was my other choice.
I don't have any issues with the fuel delivering on ON. Only i got stranded once due to non working Reserve. It happened like few weeks after the carb rebuild. Since then i didn;t even try to get it to Reserve. Replaced the exhaust today and it's loud as fuck compared to the stock one.
Man I rode a 1974 ct70 3 speed and thought it was fast when I was doing 40mph down an empty straight road,I give props for driving next to traffic and on a highway(freeway)
@@cranny_cardboard4796 Wow reply after 8 years, nice 🙂 I ended up buying 1999 SV650S from a friend of mine and I absolutely love it. Having it for 5 years now and probably never gonna sell it :)
hi I have one of them down. My shed at the moment I've had it for about 15 years now, I used to be a dispatch rider around London uk . Absolutely brilliant. They are build like a tank.s will take you anywhere and very, very quick for a 500 cc engine. I actually changed to sprockets the rear sprocket and the front sprocket to make it exhilarate quicker, my little 500 could outdo a 600 bandit no problem, great video my friend
i sold my car too and got a bike,im saving some serious cash with gas & not paying insurance,i got rain/winter gear.between gas & insurance in my car ( not inculding yearly repairs) i was spending $5000.with the bike im only spending $280 a year on gas.my bank account has blown up hahaha.
Soo weird to be in same situaction,i hawe gs 500e from 96 and i get it for good deal but still give my last dime for it and now its my only way of transportation, now cuz im broke when it stop i just push it home and fix it, life is funy
If it's the original petcock, you can't really shut the fuel off. "On" is the normal position, which automatically shuts the fuel off when you stop the engine. "Pri" primes the system (if you run out of gas), and "Res" is the reserve gas.

These things are cheap as chips second hand (or third, or fourth, LOL). Cant beat that bang for the buck. I also think it's beautiful!
There is a fuel petcock repair kit that contains rubber seals and membrane, so no need to change the whole petcock
i wonder what the rebuild kit would cost + the time spent. The new petcock cost around $25 i think. plus i prefer a manual shut off

nice, thank you! :)
I have a 09 gs500f, has enough power but the mirrors get blurry from vibration above about 65 mph
Nice bike & nice exhaust. Is that stock exhaust? And one more question: How much does it cost in the USA ?
it is stock exhaust. I paid about $1200 for the bike
Cool
you live in America? how much would you sell it for? I like purple.
Dont rev it after 3000 rpm. It will do 60miles a galon. Mine did
But once in a while rev it good to keep it performing good
awesome street bike man. Fucking love naked bikes.
I just bought one of these. Do you have an idea where to find parts.
Bikebandit has pretty much every part but it's not the cheapest. Ebay is cheaper but you wont find everything on there.
@@alexsbikesandmotors Thank you for the info!
How do you know when you run low on fuel
The bike starts running bad and you have a few seconds to switch the petcock to reserve. Then you can keep riding for at least another 20 miles or so
Hey i just got one, do you have to shut the fuel off every time you park it? Thank you.

A wise statement. 50hp IS a lot of HP for a bike.
