The Big Six has been held in affection by students at the Crossley Heath School for many years, in particular the sixth form who were frequent visitors for many years - including myself.
I attended the Crossley and Porter School in 1982 until the merger with Heath Grammar School in 1985 which created the Crossley Heath School. I left after A levels in 1989 and in this video I go back to the school for the first time since then to meet the new headmaster to talk donations, projects and more.

Thanks for a Grand Tour. It looks like 6th Formers are the US equivalent of Seniors/ 12th grade; I was certainly downing more than a few beers at that age too. No harm done, I would say. Modern “sphincters” are a tad bit too tight, eh?
Yes, seniors probably. We couldn't wait to explore the pub world. Sadly youth seems to be very much wasted on the young these days!

I'm from a town just outside of Reading, we still have the odd pub like this but unfortunately a lot of them are chains now and more aimed towards selling food and VERY expensive pints haha.

Hi James. Would I be right in thinking burton ale is the same recipie as double diamond which I drank as a teenager 55 years ago before emmigrating to Oz. Love the pub videos.
Ooh, doubt it, but I'm not sure. DD was one of those bad 70s keg beers wasn't it? (before my time). But Burton beer and recipes isn't my strong point sorry....

Tetley bitter was a very good beer back in the day .

Tetley's always tasted a bit like shoe polish to me. Though their "Imperial" was better. The short-lived Webster's 'Choice" was better still. I had quite a well off pal when I lived in Halifax in the 90s and we used to go to the Big 6 in his old Bentley Continental convertible and park it on the cobbles outside, then retrieve it, a little hungover, the next day. It's obviously being extremely well cared for these days so I shall pop in again.

When did John Baldwin give up as the licensee of the Big Six? I remember John ran the place for many years, he used to live in the former police house in Mixenden when he lived with his parents.
We bought the pub from John in August 2021.
