    Love the video and your set up! You probably already figured this out but I'll suggest it just in case. You should open your feed valve just a bit and leave it open, watch your sap level and adjust to keep it around 1.5 - 2 inches. Add to your preheat pan as needed and trickle finished syrup out as it gets close to temperature. By using this method, you will keep a steady boil going and be far more efficient. Happy sugaring, keep up the good work! Smoky Lake rocks!

      Appreciate the advice!! I don't keep it always open because the propane setup I had didn't boil it off fast enough. This year went with a new wood arch so it should work as you suggest...

    Clearly explained, great video. I'm hoping to get a divided pan like that at some point

    You should include the link to the next video in your description for this video. I think I see it in the recommended list, but you should make it easy for people to find your next video. You have an excellent set up there and it sounds as if you know what you are doing.

    Nice and informative video but as you know,you should adjust your thermometer at least every day, as the atmospheric pressure changes all the time, and it affect the boiling point temperature.

      That is good advice and i try to but most of the time the sap is covering it ....

      @@sugarshacknation2644 I suppose I should give my evaporator thermometer more attention, but there are so many other indicators that we watch ; viscosity, taste, etc. We boil it to where it is getting close to syrup, but finish it off on a propane finishing pan or our stove. We pay real close attention at that point.

    Do you sterilize your glass bottles and lids. I have new bottles and lids.

    • @sugarshacknation2644
      @sugarshacknation2644  Рік тому

      You always want to use new lids. If I reuse bottles I will boil them for about 15 min. If using new bottles I will use them out of the box. Then I fill the bottles at 180 degrees, cap them, lay them on there side. This process sterilizes them after you fill them. Hope this helps.

      If I know I'm not going to boil for a couple days due to weather, I will empty the pan into a bucket and give it a quick wash out then add it back in when I get more sap and ready to boil again.
