Nice setup. The advantage of this system is it's cheap to build. I went with a French cleat system, which is good for allowing me to rearrange shelves, cupboards & larger tool holders. For most of my smaller tools, I've found magnetic strips ideal. Very neat & easy to access. In the UK Lidl regularly sells them for around £3. I've got dozens of them over the past few years & use them all over my workshop in every spare bit of space. You can screw them onto boards with a cleat on the back or screw them to shelves or to the wall. Great for organizing things like router bits, screwdriver bits, forstner bits & also larger tools like saws & hammers. The good thing is its easy to swap things around, as they're not cut to size for specific tool profiles.

Just glueing up some boards to make my own tool wall. Three years later since my first comment. And I still didn't change my mind. I will go with your solution Rico. No french cleat. Maybe I do 2-3 single french cleat holders for a specific group which I want to be mobile eg. Bitholder. But most of the tools stay permanent in their respective spot.

Im just starting to build my tool wall so thank you for this, it is helpful hearing your thoughts on each one rather than seeing you build them, and gave me some ideas for mine. I struggled with how to hang my pliers category too since they are the most used tools so I wanted them easily picked and put back. Mine dont have shoulders, so I spot welded small bumps on the sides of each so I can hang the upside down in slots cut into the shelf, That way the handles point up so I have them ready to use as I pull them out. Most people wouldnt want to weld onto their tools, but my pliers, side cutters, etc are old and a mismatched set so I wasnt too concerned, and luckily it worked well.

Thanks for the ideas that you show here. Tool walls can be such a drag at the best of times. I'm just reorganizing my tool wall and couldn't get it into my head as to hanging pliers...This is GREAT idea. As for magnet ho!ders is they can scratch the measuring item and make them hard to read the measurement markings, the gender over the magnets works very well and leaves no scratches, Love it! Thanks for the ideas.

A little suggestion: i put a magnet bar right in front of my skrewdriverholder. I put my tapemasures, knitves etc direct on it. very handy and it saves some space. you could use the bar you alredy have. I can mail you a picture if you want :-)

    You got me ; )
Great toolwall. Was ready thinking of French cleat, but you showed me that is not worth the work. If you think about the orientation of the tools first you don't need a mobile solution. Thumbs up!

It sure isn't worth it, at least not to me. I've changed the layout a few times now and still hardly any visible holes. Plus it's much quicker to assemble, more accurate and a lot more solid. I was convinced by Matthias his video on tool walls. You should check that as well 👍. Thanks again for the comment 😄

Nice tool wall! Now I know how I'm going to hang my plyers. I have multiples of them so the big ones I will hang them like yours. The small set will go into a special holder that will have drawers, hammers, etcetera. I plan to have a work station where I can do leatherwork, carving, and work with my multi-tool or rotary tool that I use for intricate woodworking as well as rock carving. Have you ever thought of using French Cleats for tool holders and cabinets? Check out "Fisher's Shop". He makes some great things and his entire shop is on French Cleats.

Thank you! I like it too 😄. I chose this way over french cleats because I rarely change the position of the holders and this is much sturdier on the wall. Inspiration for this comes from Matthias Wandel. He has a great video on why not to use French Cleats and I agree with him.

Thanks Kathryn, not any other videos specifically about this topic but I do have some more shots on Instagram. Drawer organizing and that kind of thing. Appreciate the comment!
