Looks good! I use a slanted plane till because I have quite a few more hand planes (though your way has no limit I suppose), but a very similar setup for my other tools. I love what you said about not doing it all at once. Yes! Not only time consuming, but it seems like I need to live with my setup to know exactly what I want.

I think your tool holders are some of your most beautiful work actually. The way you arrange them on the wall is very pleasing to the eye as well. It's all so perfectly ordered. For someone who is borderline obsessive about organization, this is pure art.
As a woodworker there is something about custom making holders for your tools. You are making something that is utilitarian but you can make it as minimal or elaborate as you like. Its very rewarding working "on" the shop and not just "in" the shop.
Christopher Demetrick Well, I’m a fairly busy woodworker (woodworking & other activities), so I just don’t have the time for that. I use a pegboard system. Tools can be added in mere seconds and whole areas rearranged to accommodate in minutes. My creativity is reserved for what is done with those tools.

Learned more about my bandsaw having a push guide that i didn't think it had, which enabled me to setup my new blade better than i've been doing it, and how to put a bevel on a small board when my blade tilts to the left instead of the right LOL. That plane holder is a great idea and seems like it would be a bit more fun to make then just a regular slope and stop. I want to make a hand tool cabinet at some stage to get all my stuff out from under the bench and dust and I think I'll do something similar. Thanks.
Super cool. I always wanted to make such wall too where all my tools are easy available hanging. Not yet made. But with this video gives me motivation to finally start on it aswell. But good that you made an example because the thinking about it made me not doing it. And I see now what I would do different / better. I think I'm going to hang the heavy tools at the button of the wall... And the lighter ones like screw drivers and drills.. more in the middle..

Those are all great individual projects but those hand plane holders are a true work of art lol :) i was shocked when you ran them through the table saw but they look great :) It's fun to see how your big garage workshop is coming along thanks, Peter
These are great tool holders, but use caution on using them in a southern climate where humidity is much higher. I made similar holders years ago (not as nice though) and within months my tools developed rusty areas where they were in contact with the wood. I'm not sure if you could seal the wood perhaps to keep moisture problems at bay.
Hi Matthias, I agree with you. French Cleat walls look nice but they do not give any more functionality than your wall with tool holders and screws. My garage is the envy of many of my neighbors but I do not use French cleats. I like having tool outlines so a quick visual tells me that something is missing. If I spend 15 minutes looking for a tool I have lost 15 minutes of my life--I cannot get those 15 minutes back. I use long torx screws for most of my stuff--plus cabinet grade 3/4" plywood. My tools are on 2' x 4' panels so I can move them to the next garage and get set up quickly. Time is something I don't have a lot of. I used to have the same drill press as you, but then I burned it up once when I used a 1200W inverter to power it (an experiment). Keep up the good work, Matthias!

Great, but those plane holders should be lined with natural-fiber velvet to prevent blade damage. Also, a climate controlled box can limit exposure to moisture and harmful UV radiation, which both hasten primary planar degradation and quantum-warping of the sole.
pocket83 I keep my wood planes in 3M Fluorinert engineered liquid. It is specially designed to be chemically stable (so the blade won't corrode) and thermally conductive (to keep heat out of the blade to prevent warping due to thermal fatigue). It's designed to cool electronics, but at around 250$ per gallon, it is totally worth it to protect those precious, delicate tools!
I saw lots of videos about tool organizer and I can say this is one of the best Why is the best because all the wood he use its just a scrap wood not like others go buy a sheet of wood thats easy to work but can you make something from pieces of wood or wood that you dont need thank you for the video
I'm getting older - put the heavier stuff down low, the lighter tools higher up. Is easier to put and retrieve, also less damage if something falls, and from engineering; the higher something the greater the force or strain on the back boards.
The downward force is the same as the wueight of the object, which will only change by an incredibly small, negligable even to most science experiments amount with height

Also consider displacing the oxygen with an inert gas, or simply pulling a constant vacuum in the box. :-D

However, the torque on the wall about its axis along the floor is much greater if the heavy tools are mounted higher.
