Who was Friedrich Nietzsche?
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (/ˈniːtʃə, ˈniːtʃi/; German: [ˈfʁiːdʁɪç ˈvɪlhɛlm ˈniːtʃə] (About this soundlisten) or [ˈniːtsʃə]; 15 October 1844 - 25 August 1900) was a German philosopher, cultural critic, composer, poet, and philologist whose work has exerted a profound influence on modern intellectual history. He began his career as a classical philologist before turning to philosophy. He became the youngest ever to hold the Chair of Classical Philology at the University of Basel in 1869 at the age of 24.Nietzsche resigned in 1879 due to health problems that plagued him most of his life; he completed much of his core writing in the following decade. In 1889, at age 44, he suffered a collapse and afterward a complete loss of his mental faculties. He lived his remaining years in the care of his mother until her death in 1897 and then with his sister Elisabeth Förster-Nietzsche. Nietzsche died in 1900. Source: en.wikipedia.o...

I uh pronouced it nietzche by accident instead of this once and accidentally made it a running joke..
I simply say 'gesundheit'.
Then you shouldn't hear how Brazilians pronounce (more likely butcher) his name... its something like "Nit-she"
I wonder if anyone told him “Nice to Nietzsche!” And what he would have said/done in response.
Probably would have shite his trousers, hugged you around the neck and said 'I understand you'.
I have been in a very .. err ... prolonged " funk" these past few months or so. And by or so I mean like these past 22 months? Lol. But this has me laughing hysterically out loud and at first my laugh felt so foreign to me I almost jumped out of my skin. Then I read it ( your comment) again and again. When you love his sayings but can't pronounce his name.
You pronounce Friedrich in german wrong. Nietzsche was ok.
Please work on your pronounciation before teaching other people wrong stuff.
You know, you could at least explain why it's wrong of you want it done right.
0:14 for repetition
This is not quite right. The "ch" of "Friedrich" is the wrong "ch" sound. You pronounced it as in "Loch" like "Loch Ness", but it's actually the other variant, that sounds more like a hissing cat or something like that.
I named my dog after Nietzsche.
On a regular basis, people try to correct me with the nee-chee pronunciation. Not impressive, America. 🙄 haha
Unbelievable the effort I put to learn this
U and me both
Well, don´t listen to this guy, he is pronouncing Friedrich wrong. The Nietzsche part was ok.
Really sad my professor who wrote his dissertation on Nietzsche accepts both pronunciations.
With the austrian painter this wouldnt have happened
thank you that was very well explained and straight to the point I'd been meaning to check that for years lol
He pronounces "Friedrich" wrong though lol. The Nietzsche part is correct
Then maybe check with a German or Austrian and not a Frenchman.
@@ZenoDovahkiin No, maybe he should learn how to pronounce proper german and other languages before teaching wrong stuff to people! Hilarious!
@@eltadashi1 I was referring to OP. If OP wants to learn German pronunciation, he should ask Germans or other native speakers. The guy who made this video is French, so he's a horrible resource for any language other than French.
@lovez2eat SOUNDS okay to me. Freed-rick is the German pronouncement I learned from an actual German professor
.
The CH in Friedich is pronounced wrong, sorry. No german would say it like that. But Nietzsche was right
Genuinely curious. Is there any place you can guide me to hear the correct way?
@@johnschmidt2670 not sure if its the right approach for you, but i like to listen in music, films even youtubers from abroad for the correct pronunciation of words. But you can always look for online classes, podcasts etc.
@@annika1744 I appreciate your guidance. As you pointed out regarding this youtube video was incorrect. I am a little skeptical now as one should be. Regarding the accuracy of anything one finds online. Appreciate your reply
@@johnschmidt2670 maybe try LearnGermanWithGermanPod101.com , its a youtube channel that teaches you with proper germans
@@johnschmidt2670 ua-cam.com/video/7xdwq9XunTo/v-deo.html (at 0:05) Just choose playback speed 0,5.
My favorite Nietsche-Teacher is Jochen Kirchhoff (Jo-ch-en Kir-ch-hoff). The -ch- in Jochen is pronounced as Julien Miquel does (at least similar), a typical dutch sound, this kind of pronounciation appears after a, o, u (-ach , -och, -uch); after i, e, eu (pr. oi), r (-ich, -ech-, euch, -rch), plus may be some others, it is pronounced like this mysterious sound in Friedri-ch. English "I" is german "ich". So in any german speaking this sound appears very often. So listen to this video with Jo -CH- en Kir- CH- hoff (maybe also 0,75 or 0,5 speed): ua-cam.com/video/i3VWy-4xw1Y/v-deo.html. There you have loads of -CH- of both kinds ("dutch and mysterious sound). You have many "ich", "sich", "-lich", "mich" etc..
Recently I discoverd this mysterious sound in scottish gaelic singing: ua-cam.com/video/_y3-tRu8MIk/v-deo.html, already at the end of the 3. syllable of the first man singing (what a beautiful language) again at 0:37, there you have almost a -rich as in Fried-rich. Formerly the germans (still in the 19fifties) pronounced the germans the r's in Friedrich alveolar/dental (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voiced_dental,_alveolar_and_postalveolar_trills), nowadays it's in standard german gluttural (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guttural_R). Some parts of Germany keep the alveolar r (typically known with the slavs), fx in Bavaria or in some northern parts. So some germans would pronounce the -rich in Friedrich almost as the scotsman in the song at 0:37 does.
Every time I hear "Neet-chee" I privately go to this video to remind myself I'm not crazy.
You pronounce the “ch” in Friedrich wrong.
Im german
You need to hiss like a cat to pronounce the "ch" in Friedrich but otherwise pretty solid
Different parts of germany have different pronunciations
@@banino9295 Yeah, but his way of pronouncing Friedrich is just wrong. I am german and i can judge that. The "ch" in Friedrich is very soft.
@@Nerdlabor not everywhere, that's my point

Just don't try to roll the R like in the english language, the R should be pronounced so that your palate vibrates
I'm glad to have found this group of people who are wondering how to pronounce this. Yay us.
I'm only here because 'mercans made me think I was mispronouncing the name (I wasn't). Cheers boss.
I am German, and the name Friedrich is not correct the way Julien is saying it. I would get a sore throat from saying it like that. LOL. The "ich" sound is a soft breathing sound, as opposed to a harsh breathing sound, as for instance in Bach. It is easy ..... ich and ech = soft breathing sound. ..... ach, och, uch = harsh breathing sound.
German diphthongs, soft: euch, eich, oech etc.
harsh: auch,
Neechee sounds funnier so I'm gonna keep doing it
the spealling "nietzsche" and pronouncing "ni-chan". wtf is up with those unececry letters then lol
...Fridrik Nicha..
..hermanos hispanos ahi tienen..
En inglés es Fridrek Nicha
Y en Alemán es Frjidrejk Niicha
y en español todos FREDERIC NISCHE jajajajja
Not sure if English speakers can pronounce "R" in Friedrich pronounced in the video
The guy's pronunciation of the -ch at the end of Friedrich is too hard. The -ch here is a softer -ch in German than the -ch in words such as Achtung! In short, there are two ways of pronouncing -ch: soft and hard. And Friedrich is most certainly a soft -ch.
I can't stop with my basic-mandarin-knowing pronunciation of nietzsche. Keep making it sound like ni chi (you eat).
Ni CHEEE 🇦🇷
But what about the ending of the first syllable of the last name? It ends with tz rather than a hard t. Shouldn’t it sound neetz sha?

@@askmewho9469 that's because his German pronunciation is wrong... This channel is stupid
No. The correct pronounce is "Nii-chan".
According to your last name (if that is indeed your last name) your national heritage is Brazilian and so your native language would be a variation of Spanish or Portuguese. How does that qualify you as the judge and to promulgate the correct pronunciation? Where did the 'n' come into the picture? I'm going with the German, Nerdlabor, and say the correct pronunciation is 'freed-rish nee-chuh'.
@@anvilangst7573 You're right, i am brazilian and speak portuguese natively, but you're wrong in assuming that i was "imposing" the correct pronounce, as my comment was actually a joke, alluding to Nietzsche's pronounce remembering "Nii-chan", which would be "little brother": a term often used in japanese anime.
