You guys should react to more Sammy Hager… "Heavy Metal", "I'll Fall In Love Again", "There's Only One Way To Rock", "Three Lock Box", "Two Sides of Love", "Give To Live", "Eagles Fly", "Mas Tequila", "Bad Motor Scooter", "Red" 🎸🤘
Agreed Sammy Hagar has got probably one of the longer careers of great music in the industry and they need to explore much more. I think the only person I could think of that has been as consistent with putting out constant music through the decades would be Eric Clapton. And possibly Rush. I would say Ted Nugent has been pretty consistent since the late '60s as well but every song was not a gem as they were with the bands I mentioned above.
Sammy started out in the early 70s as the lead singer of Montrose (the entire debut album, ‘Montrose’, is fire!). Shortly after, he began his solo career. He was with the supergroup ‘HSAS’ (Hagar, Schon, Aaronson & Schreive) a couple years before joining Van Halen in 1985 for their 7th album. He left VH in 1996, I believe. He’s been solo & part of groups ever since, such as Sammy & the Wabos (aka Waboritas, I think), Chickenfoot, and Sammy Hagar & the Circle.
I don't really listen to The Circle or Chickenfoot, but I've heard a couple new songs (Crazy Times & Pump It Up), by him and the circle recently. I was listening to the second one, today or yesterday. They sounds good.
I was hoping this would be posted, I remember my brother bringing the Montrose album home from Uni - it got played a lot ! Edit - just checked , so by the time the album reached Ayrshire it would have been 1974.
In my opinion Sammy Hagar is in the top 25 of all time well-rounded artists. That being: longevity, songs, music, stage presence, the whole package. And probably in the top 10 of rock and roll lyricists. I don't think he's ever written a bad song and all of his lyrics are actually meaningful and good.
@@Gantzz321 you obviously have very little knowledge but you think you're brilliant in your own mind. Sammy Hagar has been successful with every album he's done before Van Halen and after and he's still going strong. He put out three albums after Van Halen that were all successful and Van Halen went straight down the toilet. Still putting out successful music with a whole array of top notch musicians. But someone as dim-witted as you would probably say Paul Rogers, Jeff Lynne and Eric Clapton are all one hit wonders. Because you're simply dimwitted.
@@Gantzz321 With his liquor deals, his club in Cabo, and other ventures, he was smart enough to diversify income streams. Be careful, if Sammy started to towel off cars at a car wash, he'd build into a detailing business.
Solo Sammy (before VH) has some killer jams like "There is only one way to Rock" and "Three Lock Box". Before he went solo, he was the lead singer of the band Montrose. There are some great tunes on the debut album, like "Bad Motor Scooter", "Rock Candy", and "Space Station #5". Watch the live version of "Space Station #5". Not only does Sammy do a great job on vocals, but guitarist Ronnie Montrose plyas a theremin that he has attached to his guitar! It's mind blowing to see that. No one dares tries that today.
Three Lock Box and Standing Hampton are solid, underrated rock albums! Sammy is a great guitarist and was never intimidated to be in bands with other incredible guitarists like Ronnie Montrose and Eddie.
After his Van Halen days he started a band called Chickenfoot. Bassist from Van Halen Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani , and drummer Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Sammy started with Montrose in the early 70's then solo career. In mid '80's he joined Van Halen!!! Then solo again after!!! He's been around for a long time He's currently 74 yrs old and still rocks hard!!!!
I am a die hard Red Rocker fan. If you like this you need to see him in concert. He never disappoints. Any song he sings is amazing. He joined Van Halen in 1985.
same here,. seen him in concert a lot of times in the bay area. Its a toss up between him and Y&T for me. Toss in a bit of Night Ranger for good measure.
I Can't Drive 55 was released in 1984. Sammy Hagar joined Van Halen in 1985. The studio version of these songs are always recommended, but he does do a very good live performance with this song.
Love love love Sammy. I hope you'll do more of his songs as frontman for Van Halen. You've done "Poundcake" and "Dreams" (both without realizing it wasn't David Lee Roth singing), but there are so many more great ones - "Feels So Good", "Best of Both Worlds", and my personal favorite "Amsterdam."

Sammy Hagar was one of Eddie Van Halen's favorite singers of the 70's... Hagar had been singing since the late 60's. His first break came when he joined the band Montrose in the early 70's, which featured guitarist Ronnie Montrose... Hagar released 2 albums w/ Montrose ('Montrose' in 1973 and 'Paper money' in 1974) and the band was popular in the touring circuit. However, Hagar was fired in 1975 and he claimed that he was broke & married w/ a family to support... Hagar opted to launch a solo career in 1976, while Montrose got a new singer, but fell into obscurity. Recording a string of solo records in the 70's disco era, Sammy Hagar and his solo band worked the touring circuit hard as a rock band and built a substantial following going into the 80's. His 1982 album 'Standing Hampton' was his first platinum success in the US... followed by 'Three lock box' (1983) and 'V.O.A.' (1984)... he also released an album H.S.A.S. w/ Journey guitarist Neal Schon. Despite his success, Hagar was exhausted and considering leaving music in 1985, when he got a call from Eddie Van Halen about auditioning for Van Halen to replace David Lee Roth as their singer... After hearing the new music, Sammy Hagar was sold and signed on to front Van Halen in 1986. They enjoyed 4 albums reaching #1 on the US charts by 1995. The split between Sammy Hagar and Eddie Van Halen started in the early 90's after the death of longtime manager Ed Leffler, who had been Hagar's manager prior to joining Van Halen... Sammy Hagar got divorced and remarried, so his life was a bit chaotic... dealing w/ his ex-wife and children... He also released a 'best of' solo record 'Unboxed' to generate money to pay off his ex-wife in a costly divorce. Eddie Van Halen was also struggling w/ alcohol addiction and trying to stay sober strained his relationship w/ Sammy Hagar, as he signed a new management deal for Van Halen - Hagar objected because the new manager decided to fire Van Halen's entire road crew and bring in new people... Van Halen's album 'Balance' hit #1 in 1995, but the album recording & tour were problematic... Alex Van Halen (drums) had an injury and had to perform w/ a neck brace... Eddie Van Halen also had a hip injury and needed surgery, and was unable to stay sober... Sammy Hagar's new wife was expecting their first child in 1996, so he asked for time off. But that year, Van Halen's manager asked the band to record a new song for the soundtrack of the movie 'Twister'... Sammy claimed he heard the music, spoke to the filmmakers about the plot of the movie, and wrote lyrics for the song... but Eddie rejected them and demanded the song be called 'Humans being'... so Hagar had to write new lyrics and recording the song became an issue in the studio. After Sammy and his new wife welcomed a baby girl, Eddie demanded that the singer return to the studio to record new songs for a 'best of' Van Halen record... Sammy was shocked; he had issues w/ his songs being revisited next to David Lee Roth's Van Halen songs. He wanted Van Halen to work on a new album instead... A frustrated Eddie Van Halen decided to bring in David Lee Roth to record 2 new Van Halen songs for the 'best of' record... When Sammy found out, he was furious and bailed; he claimed that he had been 'forced out' of Van Halen... Eddie retaliated by claiming Hagar's commitment to the band and work ethic were a factor in his exit. Sammy Hagar released a new solo album 'Marching to Mars' in 1997. In 1996, Van Halen appeared at an MTV awards show w/ David Lee Roth... the hope was that a reunion of the original band would follow... Roth's solo career had stalled by 1995, and he needed a Van Halen reunion. However, the appearance went sideways after Roth began to exert his personality on the band, and Eddie Van Halen had enough that very night and called off the 'reunion'. In early 1998, Van Halen released the 'III' album w/ former Extreme singer Gary Cherone on vocals... Eddie Van Halen was confident that this version of Van Halen would peak... but the problems had already begun. Eddie insisted on producing the record... he played most of the instruments including drums and bass (Drummer Alex Van Halen and bassist Michael Anthony were minimally involved) w/ Cherone writing the lyrics under Eddie's supervision. The album 'III' debuted at #4 on the US charts and went gold only (half million copies sold) becoming the poorest-selling Van Halen record in the catalog ('Balance' w/ Sammy Hagar had sold over 3 million copies in 1995). The tour for the 'III' album w/ Cherone on vocals also sold poorly. Van Halen returned to the studio in 1999, but work on new music went nowhere fast... Gary Cherone was out of the band by 2000. Eddie Van Halen was diagnosed w/ cancer and needed treatment. Van Halen tried reuniting w/ David Lee Roth again in 2000... that fell apart as well. In 2002, Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth announced a major US tour where they would be touring together... but Roth's personality again became an abrasive factor, despite the tour being a huge success. The 2 former Van Halen singers were just too different to get along offstage. Van Halen's bassist Michael Anthony was now touring w/ Sammy Hagar's solo band. In 2004, Van Halen tried again w/ Sammy Hagar on vocals, announcing a tour... their first in 6 years. 3 new songs were recorded for another 'best of Van Halen' release, but bassist Michael Anthony had been cut out from the recording process, even as he signed on for the tour... he gave up his rights to the Van Halen name. But as the tour launched, it was obvious that Eddie Van Halen was in bad shape, especially after his divorce. He was reportedly drinking heavily... using hard drugs... and his skills on guitar were not what they had been. A concerned (and frustrated) Sammy Hagar ended any more touring plans that year. Both Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony were out of Van Halen by 2005. They recorded 2 albums as the band Chickenfoot w/ guitar legend Joe Satriani and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. After a long rehab stint, Eddie Van Halen was finally given the clear by 2007 and announced that a Van Halen reunion tour w/ David Lee Roth on vocals was finally happening... Eddie's son Wolfgang would play bass, Alex Van Halen on drums. The tour was a huge financial success, but only older Van Halen songs were played live... However, Roth was not the charismatic frontman he once was in the 80's...and Eddie Van Halen's guitar skills had (likely) been degraded by decades of drug & alcohol abuse. Only 1 new Van Halen album emerged in 2012, and most of it was re-written demos from the 70's. Van Halen's last tour was in 2015. In 2017, there was talk about Van Halen bringing back original bassist Michael Anthony for a tour... but we now know that Eddie Van Halen's cancer returned and he sought treatment once again... According to Sammy Hagar, he contacted Eddie Van Halen by phone and reconciled w/ his former bandmate, but didn't know the seriousness of his illness until Eddie Van Halen passed away in 2020. Sammy Hagar still records and tours regularly w/ bassist Michael Anthony, drummer Jason Bonham (Zeppelin's John Bonham's son) and guitarist Vic Johnson as Sammy Hagar and the Circle.
Eagles Fly is one of my favorite Solo Sammy songs. I can see Amber closing her eyes and soaring with it. From the same album "I Never Said Goodbye", Hands and Knees and Give to Live are two more very good songs. That album was released when he was a new member of Van Halen. It features Eddie Van Halen on bass guitar, he also plays during a brief section of the guitar solo on "Eagles Fly"
Sammy was NOT a lot older when he did "I Can't Drive 55". He started his career with Montrose, 1971. He went solo and had many hit songs before going Van Halen. After VH, Sammy went solo again and is STILL rocking and touring at age 76.
Sammy is my favorite solo artist of all time. Glad to see someone react to this! This was filmed in 1983. ... The next year, the album he made in 1984 had the "I Can't Drive 55" single on it.
Super smooth cool rockin voice 80s royalty baby! I love Sammy Hagar.I will cry when he dies. This song and other early ones Rock.I can't drive 55 was released just like 3yrs after this one here.Oh I loved watching you do this.Stopped what I was doing to watch y'all hear this.Gotta love it.Im one of the few Van Halen fans super excited to see him join a band I already loved. He was solo in late 70s early 80s and before that solo was in Montrose. Then 85-86 joined Van Halen, and did split over a rift. And was solo ,Then Chicken foot his project band Cabo Wabo was his tequila and name of his bar in Mexico.Still performs all he can the man is pure rock and God's gift to him Rock voice!!
You're going to really enjoy pretty much any of the Van Halen performances from Live Without A Net. That's their first tour with Sammy, and that whole concert video in particular is pretty much top-tier live Van Halen. "Best of Both Worlds", "5150", "Summer Nights" are all standouts, and the show-opener "One Way To Rock" is a Sammy tune that the band really rocked.
I really wish more of the reaction community would find those Live Without a Net performances. They will be blown away. Everyone watches the Eruption solo but they need to se Eddie put that stuff in songs.
@@alackeyvideo Not just that aspect of it, but to see how much fun the whole band has with each other during that show. There's a reason so many of the songs on 5150 are so upbeat 😀
FYI, this is only 2 years before “I Can’t Drive 55”. He was in his 30s in both instances. Both are prior to him joining Van Halen in 1986 Great reaction!
Sammy Hagar is just great straight forward Rock n Roll. I live in St.Louis and have seen Sammy a bunch of times and several meet ups and he's always been pretty cool. I'll be seeing him again in just 3 days he's playing K-She 95's 55th birthday party along with George Thorogood. For me Sammy Hagar's signature song is Red but Trans Am is a close second
*Sammy was in Montrose in the early 70's...1973. He went solo in '76. He joined Van Halen in 1985, to 1996 and then went back to doing his own thing. The youngest Sammy you'll see will likely be 1973 or 1974 with Montrose. One of my favorites is Sammy (solo) doing Rock Candy (Montrose song) in 1978 - Winterland. He has Neal Schon (guitarist for Santana at age 15 or 16 yrs and founder and guitarist of Journey) come onto the stage to play guitar. Neal goes off on guitar and Sammy is somewhat in awe.*
The intersection of Sammy Hagar and Edgar Winter, both done today, is Ronnie Montrose. You should react to Montrose's Bad Motor Scooter if you want an even younger Sammy Hagar.
I saw Boston at Cobo arena in Detroit in 1979. Sammy Haggar was the opening act. At that time, He was billed as the "RED Rocker". The stage was bathed in Red flashing flood lights, and Sammy wore an all red jump suit. He was jumping all over the place; high energy show. I always remember him as the Red Rocker.
best song is Heavy Metal, the movie sound track version not the Standing Hampton album version...... movie sound track version is waaaaay better. Rock Candy and Bad Motor Scooter from when he sang in Montroes ... he kills it everytime
Sammy was in Montrose , then solo until 1985 in Van Halen to 1994 , formed the Waboritas , Chickenfoot ,present day The Circle . And other bands in between those . I’ve probably seen him a 100+ times loves his fans as much as they love him . 74 and still rocks ! !
This song was released in 1982 from his album Three Lock Box (Sammy was 35). I Can't Drive 55 was released 2 years later in 1984 on his album VOA (Sammy was 37). In 1986, Sammy released his 1st album with Van Halen (Sammy was 39).
"When It's Love" and "Love Walks In" are two great Van Halen power ballads with Hagar. I don't know if you caught it in your "Wedding Singer" reaction, but when Robbie saw Linda in his Van Halen t-shirt, he said something like "Now, take off my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up". This was a reference to David Lee Roth leaving and Hagar joining, sometime around 1985.
I love this song, and I haven't heard it in a thousand years. I remember when it was on the radio and regular rotation but had no idea who it was really because I was like 9 years old. Good good hard rock in the classic sense. There is a real common sound in this early '80s hard rock, you can find it in loverboy, Rick springfield, Billy squier, and of course Sammy here it has a very melodic and keyboard infused sound but it's mixed with heavyish guitars. Good stuff. Definitely a Time capsule.
He played in the group called Montrose, then he went solo, then he joined Van Halen in 1986 then he left Van Halen in 96 and he went solo and went to other bands
The song suggested here is “Heavy Metal” sung by Sammy is a feature in the 1981 animated adult movie of the same name ‘Heavy Metal’ and may be something to add to your movie reaction channel. So many rockers of the 70’s-80’s contributed to the soundtrack.
Sammy is also an outstanding guitarist, and has his own Tequila, Cabo Wabo. The Tequila business is kind of the reason he left Van Halen. Yes a rift between Eddie and Alex vs Sammy. His solo career surrounded Van Halen. before and After.
Sammy started young in Montrose, Rock Candy & Bad Motor Scooter, was solo, was in VH, and Chicken Foot. I saw Sammy just on Tuesday at Pine Knob, it was packed! Sammy is so fun!
Sammy was introduced in the band Montrose. Then he went solo for a while, then he joined Van Halen, then he was both solo and in various groups for a while.
Love Sammy music! My 1st Rock concert was Sammy 1984 VOA Tour St Louis Mo! Sammy loves St Louis Mo and K-she 95 Real Rock Radio both where big help in lunching Sammy career! This concert was in St Louis at the old Checkerdome that is no longer there! Sammy solo career was way before Van Halen! Sammy is in his 70s and is still rocked hard and is doing the K-she 95 birthday party this summer!
"There's Only One Way To Rock" is one you have to give a listen to. Lots an lots to listen from "The Red Rocker". One of the best concerts I attended was with Sammy on his "Three Lock Box" tour in the 80s. He is truly an entertainer. He played for three hours straight.
Sammy started with the band called Montrose in 1973, solo 76-87, 97,08, 2013-14 and joined Van Halen in 1985, also did music with chickenfoot, and Sammy Hagar and the Circle..
Not only did you guys not realize he was the singer in Van Halen’s Dreams song but also sang Poundcake which you guys reacted too. Such a great singer!
Sammy joined in 1985, and in 1986 VH released 5150, which was Sammy’s first record. Sammy was in a band called Montrose, which was named after the guitarist Ronnie Monstrose, then Sammy left and went solo, then he was hired by VH. Sammy left VH in 1996, and they hired the lead singer from the band Extreme..Gary Cherone…he lasted 1 album.
Sammy played in Syracuse, NY and opened up with Bad Motor Scooter (another BANGER btw) he was on top of a stack of speakers and jumped off (remember this was the opening song) upon landing he broke his ankle (we found out days later) No one even had any clue that he was injured, he put on his usual amazing show, climbing the stage structures, running around, jumping up and down and only went the the emergency room after the show was over. HE IS THE GOAT IMHO
Just seen him and The Circle last month here in San Bernardino CA right down the road from where he grew up in Fontana. 74 years young and still rocked
I saw Sammy at the San Antonio Rodeo a few years ago & he’s still great. He was also so personable & friendly with the audience, signing hats & shirts while he performed. From what I know of him, he’s a great guy with a fantastic life philosophy. You should check out There’s Only One Way to Rock next. It’s 🔥!
Love sammy he can hit those high notes . He came from Montrose then went solo. Great song writing. Standing Hampton a was Great album loved his concert
Sammy has been rockin for decades...and still continues. Trans Am, One Way to Rock, Rock and Roll Weekend, the list goes on and on and on! EVERY single album he did with Van Halen went to number one! The only number one's they had. No disrespect to David Lee Roth, but Van Halen never had a number one hit until Sammy! Sammy was already a well established soloist when joining Van Halen. Great job as always. P.S. Home Free!!!
Ya, I remember listening to Sammy's on 8-Track because my friend had a pioneer 8-Track super tuner, and then when I got my car I got a Pioneer Cassette super tuner and I got a pioneer 40 Watt amp and a set of Jenson tri axles in the rear and a set of Jenson co-axles in the front and wow that was a good sounding stereo back in the day and play a lot of Hagar though it!
Sammy is the BEST! His time with Van Halen was my favorite time in their history! I just watched a recent video with him and he's still such a nice and down to earth guy!
He had a very long career from the late sixties with Montrose and then solo career and then Van Halen in the 90s and then solo again and all of his music is good.
Must reactions: Sammy Hagar song performed with Van Halen, "There's only one way to rock" live in Tokyo 1989, and Van Halen "Love walks in" Live without a net 1986. Sammy plays guitar on both.
When Sammy was in Montrose, they had a couple of bangers with Rock Candy and Bad Motor Scooter. Then he had a great solo career followed by his time in VH.
He had been around for years before Van Halen. He was in Montrose, then solo, then VH, out of VH, then back in VH, and more recently a few other groups that he put together. He is literally one of the coolest guys in rock.
saw him twice in the early 80s. 1st in Corpus Christi he was literally singing from up in the rafters. Next he played in the Houston Astrodome in an all day Texas Jam where Journey headlined. Also at the show was Jone Jett, Santana. Great experience 👍
Sammy started with Montrose and released 2 albums with Montrose in 1973 and 1974. Solo from 1976 to 1984. In 1984 he released one album with HSAS -- Hagar Schon Aaronson Shrieve: Through The Fire -- Neal Schon on guitar (Journey, Santana, Bad English, Hardline); Kenny Aaronson on bass (Rick Derringer, Billy Squier, Joan Jett); Michael Shrieve on drums (Santana). Joined Van Halen for 1986 album 5150. Then Chickenfoot and The Circle.
Us Red Rockers LOVE this! Mas Tequila live is super fun! I can’t count how many times I’ve seen him live and partied with him in the 70s after a show. His stuff with Montrose is 🔥
In January 1977 I saw Sammy open for Boston in south Florida. His show was so high power, so energetic that they blew Boston off the Stage that night. Six songs into Boston's set I was ready to go. The real show had been Sammy that night.
Sammy joined Van Halen in 1985. They recorded the 5150 album and it was released in 1986. He was a well established solo artist with many albums under his belt, as well as recorded hits that topped the charts. If you'd like to see his energy as a front man, watch him and the rest of Van Halen in "Live without a net", 5150 tour that kicked off in New Haven CT, in 86.
This concert was about a year or two before the I Can’t Drive 55 video and he joined Van Halen a year after that so all of these events took place between ‘82 and ‘85.
“Standing Hampton” is such a good album!! “There’s Only One Way To Rock”, “Heavy Metal” and my favorite “I’ll Fall In Love Again”. Also, I love the artwork of the album cover!! 🤟🤟🤟
Sammy Hager has this program I can’t remember the name of it, but he interviews other Rockstars And the few times that I’ve seen him he usually ask them the question Beatles or Rolling Stones
Did you not notice his solo from Fast Times At Ridgemont High, titled, "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" from the soundtrack? He didn't join Van Halen until 1986, but had some solo contract work to do both while with them and after. Others below have covered his history from the 70s into the 80s and life after Van Halen in 1996, so read up!
This was Sammy before VH. VH for him was 1986. He was in VH 10 years. Eddie brought Sammy into the band as an already very successful solo artist. I might be off by a year. You guys are not doing him justice if you ignore the 10 years of his singing many hits for VH as well.
Sammy was with a band called Montrose, went solo, joined Van Halen and eventually went solo again. He's been rocking for 40+ yrs and has ton's of great music. Check out some of his Montrose stuff, Bad Motor Scooter and Rock Candy stand out the most, enjoy.
Sammy was known as the red rocker (his hair had a red tint and he often wore full red outfits like in I Can't Drive 55) between Montrose and his time with VH. "Three Lock Box" and "There's Only One Way To Rock" as well as a "Remember the Heros" and "I Can't Drive 55" are all pre-VH. With VH you gotta check out "Finish What You Started", one of my favorite VH tunes ever. Keep up the great work.
His solo career was before VH, he joined VH around 1985, 5150 was Sammy's first album with VH. The 5150 tour was my first concert, still my favorite live performance. "Best Of Both Worlds" is one of my favorite VH songs, it rocks hard. Or try "Cabo Wabo".
You guys should react to more Sammy Hager…
"Heavy Metal", "I'll Fall In Love Again", "There's Only One Way To Rock", "Three Lock Box", "Two Sides of Love", "Give To Live", "Eagles Fly", "Mas Tequila", "Bad Motor Scooter", "Red"

Montrose was the first Hagar band very cool
I was hoping this would be posted, I remember my brother bringing the Montrose album home from Uni - it got played a lot ! Edit - just checked , so by the time the album reached Ayrshire it would have been 1974.
Rock candy is montrose
I was going to comment but saw yours and just shut up.
100 percent! His Heavy Metal soundtrack tune is good too
In my opinion Sammy Hagar is in the top 25 of all time well-rounded artists. That being: longevity, songs, music, stage presence, the whole package.
And probably in the top 10 of rock and roll lyricists. I don't think he's ever written a bad song and all of his lyrics are actually meaningful and good.
imo he was a 1 hit wonder and if he didn't get picked up by Van Halen his he would have been hand toweling cars off at the local car wash
Good thing your opinion doesn't count for anything, since he had quite a successful career before joining Van Halen.

Not only does Sammy do a great job on vocals, but guitarist Ronnie Montrose plyas a theremin that he has attached to his guitar! It's mind blowing to see that. No one dares tries that today.
I love "3 lock Box", also "rock candy" from when he was with Montrose.
Three Lock Box and Standing Hampton are solid, underrated rock albums! Sammy is a great guitarist and was never intimidated to be in bands with other incredible guitarists like Ronnie Montrose and Eddie.
@@discus1713 and ... don't forget Bad Motor Scooter and I Got The Fire from Montrose. Ronnie was a flat out incredible guitarist !!!
After his Van Halen days he started a band called Chickenfoot.
Bassist from Van Halen Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani , and drummer Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers.
And currently - Sammy Hagar and the Circle. Sammy, Michael Anthony, Vic Johnson, Jason Bonham.
Saw Chickenfoot in Myrtle Beach. Awesome show
Yeah aren’t they still together?
I've seen Chickenfoot and sammy hagar and the circle in concert Sammy always puts on a killer show
Sammy started with Montrose in the early 70's then solo career. In mid '80's he joined Van Halen!!! Then solo again after!!! He's been around for a long time He's currently 74 yrs old and still rocks hard!!!!
It's crazy that he's older than Ozzy, because I think of Ozzy as the one who started earlier.
Sammy started in the late '50's as a beatnik singer in SF and sang though out the 60's tell now!!!
@@ronstegall2312 he actually started out as a boxer believe it or not.
But he says he quit because he got tired of getting beat up 😁
Not only does he still rock but he rocks harder than people ¼ his age lol just check out one of his newer songs/videos "Loud"
Same, seen him 4 times in concert and hope to see him again in the future
I wish I could see him .. his book is a good read
"Best of Both Worlds" is the perfect mix of Sammy & Eddie
I Can't Drive 55 was released in 1984. Sammy Hagar joined Van Halen in 1985. The studio version of these songs are always recommended, but he does do a very good live performance with this song.
Love love love Sammy. I hope you'll do more of his songs as frontman for Van Halen. You've done "Poundcake" and "Dreams" (both without realizing it wasn't David Lee Roth singing), but there are so many more great ones - "Feels So Good", "Best of Both Worlds", and my personal favorite "Amsterdam."
Not to mention Eddie's once in a lifetime guitar solo on the "Live without a net" video.
I LOVE Good Enough!!!

Sammy is 74 years old and still rocking. His band just finished a residency at the Stratosphere in Las Vegas.
Sammy was NOT a lot older when he did "I Can't Drive 55". He started his career with Montrose, 1971. He went solo and had many hit songs before going Van Halen. After VH, Sammy went solo again and is STILL rocking and touring at age 76.
My fave of Sammy's is I Can't Drive 55, awesome song & was used in Back to the future 2. Love Sammy, awesome rock singer.😎🎸👌
Sammy is my favorite solo artist of all time. Glad to see someone react to this! This was filmed in 1983. ... The next year, the album he made in 1984 had the "I Can't Drive 55" single on it.
"Give To Live" is an amazing song by Sammy with a message of inspiration..."don't give up!"
Fantastic show all the way around.
@@alackeyvideo Not just that aspect of it, but to see how much fun the whole band has with each other during that show. There's a reason so many of the songs on 5150 are so upbeat 😀
He was a lead singer for Montrose as well
FYI, this is only 2 years before “I Can’t Drive 55”. He was in his 30s in both instances. Both are prior to him joining Van Halen in 1986
Great reaction!
Sammy Hagar !!! My Favorite is - "RED" STUDIO VERSION. - with the Montrose band. His 1st hit before Van Halen.
Killer song, really the whole album doesn't have a bad song on it
I saw Boston at Cobo arena in Detroit in 1979. Sammy Haggar was the opening act. At that time, He was billed as the "RED Rocker". The stage was bathed in Red flashing flood lights, and Sammy wore an all red jump suit. He was jumping all over the place; high energy show. I always remember him as the Red Rocker.
The one song by Sammy Hagar that you absolutely need to hear is "Mas Tequila". I am surprised that people are not being more vocal about this song.
Sammy was one of the best concerts ever. Dude never stopped and climbed on everything! Need to check out his stuff with Montrose as well!
best song is Heavy Metal, the movie sound track version not the Standing Hampton album version...... movie sound track version is waaaaay better. Rock Candy and Bad Motor Scooter from when he sang in Montroes ... he kills it everytime
I was at this concert, just off stage left. GREAT SHOW
How cool!
Thank you for doing Sammy's solo stuff. Personally I think this is some of his best. Iconic rock voice and a phenomenal songwriter.
Give to Live is my favorite Sammy Hagar song. So positive and uplifting. Also shows his writing influence on Van Halen when he joined.
You guys also heard Sammy in Van Halen with your Poundcake reaction! One of my favorite solo Sammy songs is "Plain Jane".
OMG I saw that movie! It was way out there and I loved it!!
That's a really good suggestion.
Sammy is also an outstanding guitarist, and has his own Tequila, Cabo Wabo. The Tequila business is kind of the reason he left Van Halen. Yes a rift between Eddie and Alex vs Sammy. His solo career surrounded Van Halen. before and After.
Cabo Wabo is one of my favorite songs by Sammy
@@theresamariegoesplaces9688 It's not a bad tequila either. 😆
He sold his Cabo Wabo tequila and has ventured into Rum now.
Sammy started young in Montrose, Rock Candy & Bad Motor Scooter, was solo, was in VH, and Chicken Foot. I saw Sammy just on Tuesday at Pine Knob, it was packed! Sammy is so fun!
A Must 'Eagles Fly' Live at the Cabo Wabo. Sammy is #1 all around songs, voice, crowd interaction! There is nothing like a live Sammy show! 💗💗
Great rock singer. I saw him a couple years ago with his band and at 73 years old he still sounds great
Sammy was introduced in the band Montrose. Then he went solo for a while, then he joined Van Halen, then he was both solo and in various groups for a while.
You need to check out Sammy when he was lead vocalist for the band, Montrose, in the mid seventies!
Montrose, Solo, Van Hagar, Solo. All along the way he forms super groups. Always great! Fav 'Waboritos' 💗
I was at this concert. St Louis. My second concert ever. Probably still my favorite concert of all time. So good.
Just seen him and The Circle last month here in San Bernardino CA right down the road from where he grew up in Fontana. 74 years young and still rocked
"Hey You" By Pink Floyd Is Absolutely Amazing!! One Of My Favorites! 🥰
He is such a great artist!! Been rocking with Sammy for a few decades now 🤘🤘🔥🔥
I saw Sammy at the San Antonio Rodeo a few years ago & he’s still great. He was also so personable & friendly with the audience, signing hats & shirts while he performed. From what I know of him, he’s a great guy with a fantastic life philosophy. You should check out There’s Only One Way to Rock next. It’s 🔥!
Check out “oh yeah” or “something goin wrong “ by Chickenfoot
My favorite Sammy Hagar band
Sammy been doing this for over 50 years!!! Still creating new music and still sounding great.
Seeing Sammy Saturday in Chicago. He’ll be 75 this October. Love the Red Rocker.
He had a very long career from the late sixties with Montrose and then solo career and then Van Halen in the 90s and then solo again and all of his music is good.
He Can Still Sing At 74 Year's Old. Rock on SAMMY !!
Must reactions: Sammy Hagar song performed with Van Halen, "There's only one way to rock" live in Tokyo 1989, and Van Halen "Love walks in" Live without a net 1986. Sammy plays guitar on both.
"Two Sides of Love" along with this one was HUGE on radio
Sammy solo is absolutely awesome! When he took over Van Halen he brought his sound & style to them, but classic Sammy is awesome!
I remember turning the volume way up and singing at the top of my lungs back in high school to this one.
Sammy Hagar is such a great guy! I have seen him live twice in the 1970s and then the 1990s
saw him twice in the early 80s. 1st in Corpus Christi he was literally singing from up in the rafters. Next he played in the Houston Astrodome in an all day Texas Jam where Journey headlined. Also at the show was Jone Jett, Santana. Great experience 👍
Got to listen to "Three Lock Box" on this same album, I know you guys would like it.And isn't his singing voice just amazing!!!
Oh definitely one of the great summer songs of the mid 80’s brings back some great memories
Us Red Rockers LOVE this! Mas Tequila live is super fun! I can’t count how many times I’ve seen him live and partied with him in the 70s after a show. His stuff with Montrose is 🔥
I was there🙀my First concert 🔥🔥STL loves sammy
In January 1977 I saw Sammy open for Boston in south Florida. His show was so high power, so energetic that they blew Boston off the Stage that night. Six songs into Boston's set I was ready to go. The real show had been Sammy that night.
"Give To Live" is maybe my favorite of a large catalog of amazing songs!!!!!
Montrose who Sammy was lead singer, had guitarist Ronny Montrose who was the lead guitarist in the Edgar Winter Group when they did Frankenstein
Two personal favorite, from his VOA Voice Of America Album
Rock! (is in my blood)
Don't Make Me Wait - Great power love song
That was my first concert ever! And from that tour you are seeing right there. I was a young'un then!! Haha!!
This was Sammy before VH. VH for him was 1986. He was in VH 10 years. Eddie brought Sammy into the band as an already very successful solo artist. I might be off by a year. You guys are not doing him justice if you ignore the 10 years of his singing many hits for VH as well.
The patriotic song was Remember The Heroes with Mike Reno from Loverboy. That song is on the same album (3 Lock Box) as this song.
Sammy was with a band called Montrose, went solo, joined Van Halen and eventually went solo again. He's been rocking for 40+ yrs and has ton's of great music. Check out some of his Montrose stuff, Bad Motor Scooter and Rock Candy stand out the most, enjoy.
Sammy started in VH in 1986...his first solo career was way earlier. This concert was from 82 or 83 I think....
Here we go! Listening to your fans! Thanks guys 😊 😃 😀
