How long would you last as a street food vendor?
Evelia Coyotzi and her team get started every night around 8pm, working until 4 am when she rolls out her cart and sells hundreds of her famous tamales. She does this every day, rain or shine, winter and summer.
She can’t afford to take a break.
Why?
Because she has to buy her vendor’s permit on the black market for $18,000 instead of the real cost of $200.
Watch this video to understand a day in the life of an NYC street vendor, and why vending permits are so expensive.

Speechlesss , she looks so tired but still grinding. Praises to her and her work ethic. ty for recognizing her hard work.
she actually has a legit restaurant now, its awesome to see
Came from Munchies episode!
nice! they did a great job
She actually is from Tlaxcala, Mexico. But no one knows that state, so that's why she says that she is from Puebla State.
It's true - we're still in touch with her. We made that mistake in the video but she forgave us.
Queens native here 🙋🏻♀️ glad to see you guys showing the world what nyc is about, and not just Manhattan. Also, I was sad to see that munchies stole your story :( they should’ve at least given you credit in the description
Thanks, Mel. We were pretty shocked to see that, too. We should mention something to them!
Nowhere Men - Brian & Alex what can we do? I left them a message on their video. I hope they respond, but I doubt they care 🤷🏻♀️. Maybe do a video on how munchies stole your story? I’m sure you’re not the only one it happens to, it’d be cool to watch a video on how a creative thought is stolen on UA-cam.
This was my comment:
“This was so interesting, I especially loved it when NOWHERE MEN broke the same exact story TWO YEARS AGO! If you didn’t know, a small UA-cam channel called Nowhere men did the same story, with the same lady, exactly the same video two years ago. You could’ve at least given them credit or referenced them as an inspiration for your video. In case you want to watch the original video:

@@Parisbella219 Thanks Mel. I'm not sure it's worth making a big stink. If we think of something we'll let you know, but for now we appreciate your support!

EVELINA COYOTZI es la Mejor TAMALERA en todo New York....por que es de TLAXCALA 💖
NY needs to step up and give these vendors permits instead of standing by while they are being financially raped!
good stuff
wait there was a part in the video of one of y'all sleeping so... obviously not true 😂😂🤣
what kind of tamles you guys get?
plz respond, i need to try them
Can anybody please tell me where I could get those electronic signs that the street vendor has in their cart? Thanks.

WE HAVE A ''TORTA DE TAMAL''?
Looks a lot like Chicago
Lesly
Sounds like kickbacks to me but then again what’s “not new” with our local government!
18,000 a year or a month?
$18,000 every 2 years. A month would be crazzzzy. It's still crazy, to be honest.
Where is she located? I'd like to go
Shes below Junction Blvd off the 7 (if she still works where we filmed this)
🙏🏼 thanks
That's what happens when a city is plagued by mass corruption. Why anyone would want to live in that trash heap is beyond me.
How much does she make a month to pay $18000
Not sure, but you can imagine that it's quite a challenge. We have a TON of respect for Evelia. She works her ass off to make a living.
Don't be fooled. Lots of money in this business.
@@NowhereMenTV great video I live by there and I think is awesome that you guys promote and introduce different foods to USA gastronomy great job
@@diegoshrek89 Thanks!
ok, just one little thing, the singular form is TAMAL (cutt it out the "e", doesn't exist, finish the word with a final "L") the plural is Tamales but the singular is Tamal, simple, and that´s it, cutt that wird "e" your saying, please, correct that, and of course enjoy a delicius Tamal
(Real Academy of the Spanish Language set that in spanish all words that end with final "L", the plural should be "ES" (if you just put an "S" its incorrect, like Tamal / Tamals, that wrong).
It has to be:
-Tamal / Tamales
-Temporal / Temporales
-Cristal / Cristales
Parcial / Parciales
Agradece rpiemro que nada que Los cuavos Sean portado buen Buena Honda y estan romocionando Los TAMLEeee TAMAlee dejate de corrwgir tu y mejor pobre a promober Los tamales tambien
Oh this little taco is the so wonderful and it only cost me $8.50... Hey I suggest you just keep your money for yourself... that food is probably not essential to sustain your life.
We didnt have parents who paid for our education . We have no choice. Yery few opportunities that's why.
Brutal ... lack of sleep ... who she doing it for? Family
Those aren't authentic Mexican tamales...our mothers and grandmother's made them from fresh ingredients. Never from can produce
You gotta use what you can to get by, my friend. She's making 600 a day to sell on the streets of NYC for $1.
Nowhere Men TV I agree. Down here we pay 4.50 for a dozen
En otro video se ve como los hacen y están bien, usar productos enlatados como piñas en almíbar o rajas de chile no es un crimen, mi abuelita (qepd) también llegó a usar algunos productos enlatados, además considera que en USA no hay de todo como aquí a la mano.
My family is from Jaslico and have family in DF . They look pretty damm fresh . There making them by hand doesn’t get anymore legit . She’s honesty doing the community a service by only charging $1 . When is the last time you paid a $1 for everything handmade .great story guys
@@garza7676 in South Texas we buy them for 6$ doz
Tamales and Mexican are definitely not new York and that tamales are nasty these ppl food has no flavor
Edmund Santiago stfu man always fucking disprecting our damn culture what the fuck are you I’m guessing your some other type of Latino who thinks they’re bad they sell better than your mommy’s damn food so stfu bitch
Yes, she's from Mexico, but since its made in NYC, it must be nasty, not authentic and, of course, have no flavor. That's why she can't sell a single one. At the end of the day, she has no choice but to toss full bins of food away and... wait, what? She SELLS OUT every single day? 600+ per day for 15 (now 20) years? Many of them sold to fellow Mexican immigrants, who know how it is supposed to taste?? How is this possible? Oh. Yes. YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. Hahahahaha
