The Antojitos Queen Of New York City | Street Food Icons

- Опубліковано 8 вер 2021
- Felicitas Vargas, better known as Doña Fela, is the boss behind Antojitos Doña Fela, a Peruvian food truck serving “little cravings” that she runs with her daughters and granddaughter in Queens, New York City. After noticing there was an absence of Peruvian-style street food among the food carts in the city, Doña Fela made it her mission to bring the flavors of her homeland to the streets of New York. Doña Fela is the matriarch of her family and faced impossibly difficult challenges growing up, but has provided everything, including a strong work ethic, to her children.

Typical old-school family own restaurant, mentioning every ingredient and procedures because no one would still be able to do it anyway xD
Hit the nail on the head with that statement bc its so so true!
Facts!!
Facts
Big facts
Why would it be funny 🤨 ?
"That someone who buy the first 8 Tamale is freaking legend."
Beautiful United hard-working family. Food looks delicious. God bless them always. Greetings and respect to all from Durango Mexico 🇲🇽
Wow 80 years old and still going strong, God bless her and the family.
La historia donde vende 20 y un paisano le dice "deme 8" Me toco el corazón, siempre verás un hermano ayudandote y se correrá la voz de tu trabajo ♥
As an european, this is how i prefer to see the USA, a nation of immigrants all bringing their values, traditions and :) recepies to the table, living together hopefully peacefully and in such doing so making the place they live in ... great.
The US is a nation of immigrants, it is only the fools who forget the English were not native! It pains me when people talk of borders and not letting people try to make a better life for themselves. Without the immigrants of the 19th. century nothing would have been built in this country. And don't get me started about how the forefathers treated the Native Americans. These hard working ladies are amazing and succsessful!! Bravo.
This is the United States man. There’s maybe 10% of the population who has a close minded mentality and unfortunately that’s what is shown in the mass media.
💯💯💯💯
@@96cespinoza thats statisticly correct so to speak, i can't remember the name of the study but one of its conclusions was that roughly 10% of *any* population is as you put it 'closeminded*. Where it matters though, most of the time the other 90% are picking up the slack and the pieces when everything goes right. Question is, does everything go right? Population pressure, ressource shortages, product shortages(chips not the kind you eat ^^), job loss, no healthcare, cost for education, climate change and on and on are all things which put stress onto a society and when nothing really gets done due to partisan politics or *closemindedness* then loudmouth showboating demagogues like Trump suddenly have a chance to rise and in their shadow the extremists 10% florish.
I know that most of the people in the USA like everywhere else just want to live their lives in piece and most of them are good people. The problem is when the 10% get too much attention and become a deciding factor. Add to that the bubbles where meanwhile we mostly all live in which gives different sets of information(not allways facts ^^) to different people and ofcause there will be problems.
One thing which may help to counter this is trying to imagine that the concept of *we* needs to be broadened, it is not only *we* the white or black or ... people, it is not only the we all from my hometown or all the we from a state or the states, but all of humans which need to be concidered depending on what one is talking about or doing. Counterproductive to that in my opinion is the *philosophy of american exceptionalism* which is partly tought in US elite universities which implements the mindset that as you are an american you are pretty much allowed to do anything anywhere to anyone(simplified and broken down). It belongs to the mindset of supremacists and yet is taught to those who later on become politicians. If one seees nothing wrong with that, why even bother to ask why other nations may have a problem with the USA ^^. Sure in geopolitics morals often become secondary, but maybe that is one of the problems to act morally while not acting superior, arrogant or condacending.
Anyways just some thoughts which pop up on the topic of close-mindedness. I wish you a good day :)
Not sure why you're saying this as if the US is the only country with immigrants. Tonnes of other countries have a lot of immigrants including in Europe where you can find a similar diversity if not more lignuistically and culturally. US doesn't even have a monopoly on saturation of immigrants -- you find that in the middle east (UAE) which far exceeds any percentage that you can find in the US. It's present in droves of areas on every continent all around the world and it's nothing special to make note of "a nation of immigrants".
Also not sure why people act like immigrants are some virtue, particularly in a nation like the US that has a history of being xenophobic, racist, sexist, and stifling freedoms (including religious freedoms) from its inception and never really managed to do any of those right for the majority of its history despite the opposite being advertised. Calling a nation 'a nation of immigrants' doesn't mean much when its police are committing genocide and put refugees in war-esque camps and separate families in 2021.
I don't really understand the itch some people have to make flag-waving comments and to start unnecessary political dialogues. Was it not enough to just say the video was nice to watch and move on? I guess it was for some people.
Grandma is a triple OG, struggled and kept going, blessings 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
As an American-Peruvian (with family roots in Chincha and Lima nonetheless) it’s amazing to see our culture still alive and thriving in the states, especially our food!
Can you tell me about the tamales thing? I thought they were mexican
@@ericktellez7632 I am Mexican-Peruvian (Mother is from Lima, Father is from Mexico), the key difference is really consistency, flavors, and fillings between Peruvian and Mexican tamales. Peruvian tamales are a lot more greasy, usually have no filling, or pork filling, and some sort of addition like an olive. Mexican tamales are usually seen as more of a snack, with all kinds of fillings and a lot more rougher than Peruvian tamales/
@@ericktellez7632 tamales are Mexican that’s where they originate but like the person above me mentioned, other Latin American countries have their own version of tamales
Que es esa huachaferia de american peruvian
@@jesusluna4498 Qué huachafería ni nada. Está diciendo que es una persona americana y peruana. Te ofender por las huevas lol.
This weekend I'm definitely getting food from them. I live 10 minutes away.
Let us know how it went

will eat vicariously through you, those tamales looked bomb
Try something for me.. Mexican here who has never eaten Peruvian food. Post something you suggest here and I'll try to find a spot out here in Chicago, lol
@@zaggaona well papa a la huancaina is delicious but I also love the ceviche, arroz chaufa, anything with leche de tigre, lomo/pollo saltado, choros a la chalaca, jalea (fried seafood mountain), their roast chicken is amazing especially with the green sauce and finish it off will alfajores (it's a layered creamy caramel dessert that's to die for)
Awwww, grandma deserves a reward and a break! Bless this family of hard workers and lovely souls. I'm from the BX, I will make my way to Queens to get some of this deliciousness. Free massage for Stephanie on her lunch break 🥰
Most likely she refuses breaks😂😂,grandmas who've got passion for what they do go are hard to stop
Yes, God bless granny, she had a tough life. Glad to see that they're successful vendors now!
2:51- "Carapulcra"- Is a spicy stew made with dried potatoes. It could also be made with chicken or without meat for those who don't eat pork, or are vegetarian or vegan. The carapulcra is one reason why you got to visit "La Doña", because you will have a difficult time finding it at the local Peruvian restaurants. I am from the area, and you are almost never going to see it on their menus.
Ive been living next to a Peruvian restaurant for 5 years now. I can smell it from my backyard, makes my mouth water everytime. Try it out if you can! Aguadito has dethroned menudo as my hangover cure.
ohhhh man, aguadito!!!! its is such a great medicine for a hangover, same as caldo de gallina( gen soup ), its so good!!!
As a Peruvian this makes me so happy !!!! I will definitely be stopping by and supporting ! Your grandmothers food reminds me so much of my own she just has the best touch. Keep shining you guys are amazing✨
These women, especially the grandmother, are my newest inspiration.💃🏽
Family is everything. It's so inspiring to see stories like this. The culture, the food, the passion, the love. Real stories of real people out there. Mucho amor
Finally someone features Peruvian cuisine! Their food is so good 😂😂 and here in OC CA we always buy tons every week!
I love how close they are even though the boss didn't have her mother she's an inspiration and a very strong woman.
I live in Queens and feel proud that my borough has such a diverse culture and cuisine!
ESA ES MI GENTE PERUANA, SIEMPRE TRABAJANDO , SIEMPRE ¡¡¡
I hope that everyone that sees this in ny gives them some business so they can open a store front. Thanks to munchies for putting a spotlight on this hardworking family. Family businesses like this are dying out the cultures and traditions are being commercialized. It’s up to us the people as always to keep them alive. The food looks delicious my mouth is literally watering. Thank you 🙏🏽
Dumbest comment ever. Foreigners are opening traditional restaurants everyday.
Grandma has worked so hard all her life and witnessed so much. I’d be glad to sit and listen to her stories in the past
I would listen to that grandma all day... She has so much information to give for younger generation that not to give up easily in life.
“Love isn’t something you find. Love is something that finds you.”
This gives me travel fever. I want to go visit Peru and learn more about their culture now
Do it. Easily the best country in South America
Cooking is so popular today because it's the perfect mix of food and fun. Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all. Love from Korea 🇰🇷💕
This is why women are so amazingly powerful, I admire all of them.. Viva Perú! And its wonderful women!
Queens is so diverse in so many ways is amazing hearing these stories to push and motivate

Glad to see the granddaughter has joined the business. Very precious 💖
Hats off for the charming grandmother 👵 what a strong woman… always stay healthy and safe abuela. 💚🤗💚
Came from extreme hardships, survived and then later flourished.
Never give up ya'll.

When you cook with love, you know it so good. The love shows with their devotion and hard work, and of course, the delicious food. In this case, something that feed the people
It also shows that they cook with good ingredients and don't take shortcut, they start cooking at 3 am.
Oh man, that food looks 🔥😋 I’ve never had Peruvian food before. Definitely have to try it
Peruvian food is very good. Peru has won multiple food awards and is practically known as one of the best food countries on earth.
Depending on where you live, you’ll oftentimes find a ‘Papusaria’ right around the corner. They sell papusas- a simple dish, yet incredibly delicious and cheap.
Google Pupuseria’s around your neighborhood

Hermosas señoras! Muy inspiradora su historia!
Peruvian food is some of the best in the world and this is the best place to get it in NYC!
absolutely peruvian food is sooo delicious
Sra Fela y familia congratulations on your success. I have had the pleasure and privilege of eating your delicious tamales, chicharrón, empanadas and alfajores so many times. First time a friend brought over some tamales and we asked him where he got them, he told us and on a saturaday we found her food cart down on Roosevelt Av and got a nice plate of chicharrón. Ever since, whenever we have a chance we stop by and get something deliciuos. The customer service is the best.Highly recommend it! Thank you 😊
Awesome ladies! You are right Grandma is the definition of a boss💯
Love this Munchies segment!! Good to see family businesses promoted as well as this less known Peruvian cuisine!!

I love what Munchies is doing, I always love this kind of videos, and finally, I can see some PAISANOS selling great food on NY! Thanks Munchies for this, and let me say, great job on the subtitles! VIVA PERU!
Grandma is the MVP...damn she practically raised herself and her own family...she gets all the praise!! Love this!! Good family, love and good food!
Even the doggo knows who the boss is! 🤣🤣
I love how they worked so passionately..
Doña Fela´s story is so touching! The hard working story of a lot of women not only in Lima but all Latinoamerica. And sometimes we are asking for motivation because something meaningless is going bad in our lifes. Viva el Peru y vivan las mujeres luchadoras!
God bless them and all the hard workers out there, the world is in motion because of you.
The Real Cheff of the world, great history of success, accomplishment and Proud of her hard work y que VIVA PERU 🇵🇪
Thanks for never giving up. Now you're inspiring everyone out there! May The Almighty bless you.
Yes Ma’am... Thank you for your wisdom.
I too lost my Mother at a young age and my Father was always working. I began to run our home then later working part time and going to school. After graduation I continued to work then started junior college my Father had moved to Chicago as I worked my way to a degree. Sometimes I hitchhiked because of no car yet I managed. Its the foundation of who I am. You can either succumb to diversity of challenges or overcome. Simply put.
God bless them! Thanks for the coverage, long live carts. I’m not Hispanic, but was raised in Corona NYC, poor but most happy in this life, my heart is buried there. My family then moved to the rural midwest. As an adult I became very patriotic, I love this country, the eco diversity and respect both spectrums, even hot messes, white black browns; We all represent iconic Americans, be proud, true New York hustlers. It used to be illegal on junction blvd, now it has bursted, I’m glad we have options.
Peruvian people are the hardest workers I know, I live here since 2017 and they are unreal.
Also, the food is the best.
These wonderful women preserved and now they are successful! 🙏😭🙏Great lesson to hand down about never giving up!🙏😘😊

Growing up in Peru my mom had her restaurant named “Antojitos” too. She stopped to put all of her efforts raising her kids instead and sold the restaurant to my aunt.
Her work ethic is inspiring.
Bless this hard working family. Wish them nothing but more success!
As a half Peruvian, half Spaniard, it's amazing to see the persistence of such women who share a little bit of Peru in New York. Kudos!
Una inspiración Doña Fela! Su comida se ve casera seguro que cuando algún Peruano la come se transporta por unos minutos a Perú, Espero que su legado siga por muchas generaciones!
God bless this family with many healthy and happy years together.🙏🏽
