    Hello Paul, I really enjoyed the tour of your platform. You did a fantastic job on creating a beautiful railroad. The kids must play for hours with the trains. Thanks for sharing! Frank👍

    This might be my favorite O Gauge medium-sized layout I've ever seen. Really takes advantage of the space and brings it up from being a flat 2D set of track!

    Your layout is excellent and help get out of that 2D thinking and go to 3D look. I like the software your using doesn’t seem overly complicated. I enjoyed watching it and gave me quite a few new ideas. Looking very good Lou Albertini!!!!

    I just saw your video on spray foam. I wanted to say you should try spraying the great stuff without the long plastic tip. Shake well of course, and just press the 1" tip to the side. It will spray like rattle can paint. It will stick very well and be thinner, more controllable, and less tube like. My dad loved the organ, I got my name from Peter Slak and Lorin Whitney. I played a sax in school.

    Very Nice, I am planning a retro Lionel layout for the garage and appreciate you sharing your go-to tools and techniques. BTW, nice backdrops, where did you get them?

    • @paulsteinweg
      @paulsteinweg  4 місяці тому

      Backdrops were from a website under that name. You can select multiple versions and also piece them together to mix between.
      The music was from stock unlicensed source my daughter found

    New subscriber here, Paul. You've a truly masterful job in perfecting your modelling techniques to produce a magnificent layout! So many options for running and simple direct operation. Not that it was easy to accomplish, but the result is a pleasure to watch.

    Nice looking layout. How do you get to the trains on the shelf above the layout?

    • @paulsteinweg
      @paulsteinweg  Рік тому

      The area with the lift bridge and walk in helps a lot. From there I can reach most areas of the layout. I also have some areas I know I can walk on if I need to. That is the nice thing about using the asphalt patch for roads. It is durable and flexible.

    • @paulsteinweg
      @paulsteinweg  Рік тому

      I helps to have the drawbridge to walk into the layout.

  • @trainman5603
    @trainman5603 Рік тому

    Great looking layout! Your approach to wiring is ingenious. It appears to me the layout is not very tall. Is this for the benefit of children? Have you found you wish it were a bit taller? You look like a 72 inch perhaps taller fellow, and have you had to go below layout level for wiring fixes/changes?

    • @paulsteinweg
      @paulsteinweg  Рік тому

      Yeah, I went for 32” for both the view for kids plus more ease to lean out over to reach stuff. The passage I made with the lifting bridge helps too. The height just allows me to crawl on my knees underneath. As for wiring, I wish I had run more multi strand wire cables in advance of everything. That would have really helped keep things cleaner underneath.

    • @trainman5603
      @trainman5603 Рік тому

      Thanks for the prompt reply. I am 78 and I really do not want to be on my knees more than absolutely necessary! Lionel on its great display layouts made use of bus wires. It do not think they were stranded, but in the last layout I built--back in the 60's--I used stranded extension cord wire. No voltage drops ever!

    • @paulsteinweg
      @paulsteinweg  Рік тому +1

      Never too old to play with Trains😃. Besides wiring and the technical stuff, I really enjoyed experimenting with scenery. The spray foam like Great Stuff changed everything for me. I plan to do a separate video on trying different types and techniques anyone can do to get really realistic features.

    • @trainman5603

      @@paulsteinweg The scenery, in my view is the physical artistry of the hobby.

    whats that 3d layout system designer program?

    • @paulsteinweg
      @paulsteinweg  Рік тому

      The program I used is called SCARM (Simple Computer Railway Modeller) Very user friendly. It is also nice because you can use track and switches by brand so what you do is exactly what you want and need to order.

    you could share the layout size ? 4' x 8' or whatever ? It would be appreciated, thanks

    • @paulsteinweg
      @paulsteinweg  4 місяці тому

      The layout is 7x16. That allows for the best radius track on the outside.

    Hi to you . I have a question ? I see that your transformers are lionel CW80 tipe as (chopped sine wave ) so, is it your locomotives run great
    without any problems with thoses two CW80 transformers ? You have a nice layout and thank's in advance . Cheers .

    • @paulsteinweg
      @paulsteinweg  Рік тому

      Sorry for not getting back to you. I have not been on YT for a while. The transformers work really well I use the exclusively for the locomotives and have a 3rd one to run the switches and some other accessories. I still put both the Lionel in Phase which means all the grounds are connected to each other.

  • @davidnorris2923

    Paul what is the height of your layout. Reason I ask is I noticed you have a backdrop and above is shelves for trains. I also would like to ask what kind of track are you using?

    • @paulsteinweg
      @paulsteinweg  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi David. My layout is 32” high. Did this for both reach over and for kids. The scenery behind I found on the internet. Really nice options there. I think the height of that was 36”.
      I used Gargraves track for everything.

    • @davidnorris2923
      @davidnorris2923 11 місяців тому

      @paulsteinweg thank you so much I'm using atlas but may lower to 36.

      Ease of access will be important once you start adding scenery. You will see I created a walkway and lift bridge to get better access.

    Hey, any chance you can change your video on the use of spray foam for scenery to a standard UA-cam video instead of UA-cam for Kids video? I'd like to save it to my group of model railroad scenery videos but YT doesn't allow that for YT for Kids videos. Thanks!
