Many of todays "Divas" could learn something by watching this great artist sing. She is a consumate pro. Perfect technique coupled with a gorgeous voice makes her my all time favorite chick singer.
Enchanting & gorgeous is this incredible version by the incredible Melissa Manchester of the Piaf classic...for a special treat get the timeless classic "Tribute" cd by Melissa who is in peak form on every great song...Bravo Melissa!!!
She inspired me to learn this song. I've since sung it in my local theater and even competed in a talent show on a cruise ship. I won a bottle of champagne. How fitting! :) Love her!
I've always been a fan of Melissa Manchester. She's expresses so much passion with her phrases and tone... This is a classic performance in which Edith Piaf would be proud. Thanks for sharing :)
What a magnificent performance!! Ms. Manchester never ceases to thrill! Her live performances are the best. I've listened to a lot of talented singers sing this song, and Ms. Manchester does it the BEST! Oh, that voice...
Having seen Melissa in concert too many times to count from 73 to 05, Melissa has the most extraordinary voice and clearly this version is definitive...Bravo Melissa!!!
A perfect 10 for me! She put the emotion through on every word. Truly feeling what she was singing! Where has she been all these years? What is she doing now in 2008?
Stunning !! Absolutely stunning. Performed with passion and profession. Never heard Melissa before. Incredible surprised. Edith Piaf would have loved this tribute.
Having just listened to about half a dozen different renditions of this song, I felt that if it were done with a slightly slower tempo and an earnest, pleading sort of articulation, it could really be an emotionally moving piece. I have just heard the perfect version of what I had imagined. Absolutely superb! I wish EP could have heard it done like this.
I've listened to many versions of this song on UA-cam, including Celine Dion's TV-show version, but this one is the best I've ever seen or heard, outside of Edith Piaf's original. Melissa pays faithful tribute first in French then delivers the English lyrics. But of course, the French language is so sexy and beautiful to hear spoken and even more so, when sung. Absolutely wonderful and conveys that delicate but powerful balance of melancholy with playfulness. Brilliant!
Melissa was one of the finest singers from the 80s. Totally underrated. This woman could SING. The "artists" of today are artists in name only. It's more important that they look sexy or do something shocking then actually show that they have talent--that's because they don't have any to show. Melissa--please record something new. You are so loved!
What a tribute! And voice! I love this💖. Wonderful english-french version Melissa is such an amazing interpreter and i can say she pronounces perfectly every french word !
Melissa is still around. I know this comment you left was posted years ago, but Melissa is touring at the moment. Her spirit cannot be stilled, and her talent and gifted voice will never be silenced. Melissa Manchester will be with us forever...
Raised in Milwaukee I thought accordions were only for polkas. 😁😁😁 Then a date took me to an Italian restaurant, and I was serenaded by an accordionist. WOW
If the audio is out of synch with the video, it's because this performance has been converted from VHS-DVD, then again converted to a wmv/avifile. I assure you I did no such thing as laying an audio track back over the video, or any other such manipulation. The vocal is EXACTLY as performed on the Carson show in about 1990. Melissa is not lip-synching. Anyway, the video & audio are not that much out of synch Check your computer.
She wasn't lipsyncing here....very few people would lipsync on Carson's show. I have the Tribute album and this is not the recorded version. Melissa just has an incredible voice!
I love her songs, her voice and, on a personal note (having been smitten with her as a teen ager back in the '70s) I would love to kiss those beautiful lips!
Edith Piaf only brought this beautiful song to our attention in 1947, with her beautiful rendition, and given that the recording equipment in the late 40's cannot compare to today's acoustical clarity and brilliance, Edith's recorded rendition is still a classic, and, I'm sure a show stopper when Edith sang it during a live performance! Here, Ms. Manchester sings Edith's song, not only into the music history books as well, but into our souls, into our hearts, and goes straight into our core Beings!
C'est très bien. Elle a beaucoup de force. Rachel Ellis mezzo on youtube for Con Te Partiro et autres. Melissa chante bien mais "Don't Cry Out Loud" est mieux que cette chanson. Ainsi, J'adore le deux. Elle est une bon chanteuse! Formidable. J'ai de la chance pour faire mon CD, "Les Plus Belles Chansons."
(CONT'D) Now that Midler is retiring from spotlight, she doesn't have to pretend she likes her gay fans who literally put her phony ass on the map. Kathy Griffin, who visited w/Midler in Vegas on Life on D List, was stung by Bette's catty, judgemental comments. Kathy said at show's end, "Apparently the Divine Miss M loves raunch in her show but not in real life." Sorry about getting off point re Melissa but, well, enough.

Melissa's CD "Tribute" is impeccable! Somehow, in her live performances though, Melissa tops even herself!
She inspired me to learn this song. I've since sung it in my local theater and even competed in a talent show on a cruise ship. I won a bottle of champagne. How fitting! :) Love her!
This was a magical performance by Melissa. I love this classic tribute to this song and Edith Piaf. Just beautiful!

Speechless ... there are no words. I'm awe-struck.
Been many a version of Piaf's classic, but for me, Manchester's is the most beautiful.
