Song is played much slower in original. I think the complicated part is playing it quite slow and not to become faster. It gets its dynamics, which is very important to create that special atmosphere, by varying how hard you pick the G and B String.
I'm a beginner and this is the first song I learned. The other tutorials I found didn't have the end, so I had to watch a live version of the song to try to figure it out. I had it about 85% correct. Thanks to you, I have it all now! Woot!
I would flat pick it but I am not going to learn it because who would sing it? Me? For anyone other than Hope Sandoval to sing this would be sacrilege. She is that unique and David's guitar part on this song is pure simplistic genius. I have heard tens of thousands of songs in my long life and now this is my all time favorite song. Close observation of Roback's MTV performance reveals he continually swaps between his middle and ring fingers. Gotta love how much performance is in the details!

Agree 100%, extremely difficult to play at the original speed but back then I am sure mushrooms and weed helped :)

Sounds even better if you move your picking up toward the middle or front of the sound hole. A LOT fuller.
You can also play the c chord in a different way,that way you dont have to switch to go to f,you just go down a string and thats it
