Same. Had the “low caffeine “ version, the regular 2.5l V6, ‘99 vintage. Wife like the SVT, but didn’t want to learn to row your own. The only issue the engine loves to blow the upside the engines are everywhere. the 2.5 was not developed with Porsche the 3.0 duratec was though. the 2.5 and 3.0 are related just like the 3.0 is related to 3.5. The 2.5 threw 3.5 are all technically duratec engines God I love em.

Actually all 2.5 - 3.0 Duratec engines were originally a Porsche design. Ford purchased the block/crank design from Porsche when they realized they were way behind on aluminum block design. Porsche was happy to sell it because it was a extremely difficult engine to build by hand as all Porsche engines are. Ford of course made it a little cheaper, and a lot more reliable. And with the automation on their assembly lines doing things exactly the same they could make it work. What made this motor special was a higher compression ratio (domed pistons) and more aggressive cams with and a factory more aggressive tune-. Also the lower intakes were polished as opposed to just a regular piece of cast aluminum.

My dad had one when I was like 13, man what an awesome ride 😁
I still have my 99 black /cream interior 99 contour svt. She's at a 195,000 miles but still smooth and quick. I just changed the starter, battery, oil, and the alternator. The starter was a pain but every thing else was straight forward. The mechanical key is research ,research, and research before doing any job
Raced those back in the day with my 99 si with stock 160 hp. I was faster on the highway speeds, but from a dead stop the ford was faster. The 2 door civic wieght was 2,800 and had a 8,200 red line from the b16a2
Yup. I had a 99 SVT and took down many Si, Integra and Preludes unless they had been turbocharged.
Good luck to find one in good shape and not beat at hell.
Mr Random? You think you can do a Before You Buy on the Lincoln Towncar?
You had me sold until the cutting off of my legs thing.
These were the years of high school for me...alot of street racing and cars were so similar in power was super fun...I had one of the faster cars in high school was tuned up 78 Pontiac Phoenix coupe everyone confused it for a nova but slightly pointed front end and Pontiac badges my bro had if not fastest car definitely in the top 3...his turbo Porsche 944 was eating fox bodies 5.0s for lunch....most kids had hondas few neons and miatas, turbo eagle talon some sunfires...only 4 muscle cars mine a old 76 camaro a 70s mustang and my friends c10 with a 454...lots of fun street racing going on
My buddy and i did a svt contour swap into his mercury cougar. It made like 20 horse more than the v6 cougar motor
Do a before you buy on the Lexus is300 and Pontiac g8
You learn something new everyday
I love the under dog cars. U should do a video on the 92 mazda mx6 gt i had one few years back it was a fun lil turbo car
Mine had electrical issues and Everytime I got it into the power band it felt like it was gonna fall apart, and it still would run after you shut it off until you turned the lights off, but man was it a fun cheap car.
I wish i never sold mine.
They sound so tuff with the magna flow cat back exhaust💥
i had the 99 sport v6 automatic as my first car in 08 and i regret selling it, i needed something bigger for work
i didnt know anything about cars and i remember people would be surprised that it was a v6
Yeah they are pretty small to have a v8 and its a good one with variable valve timing
this and the grand prix gtp are 2 amazing dirt cheap cars, and both are quite reliable.
Had the 3.0 24V in my ‘04 Sable LS wagon. Thing surprised me with the power, claimed factory was 200/200, but was either underrated or had a ringer. Weapon X coils increased the fun factor and fuel economy too.
@@peronet73 they're bullit proof.
@@lsjionredlinesupercharged2049 hey, power to weight ratio constantly surprised me! The LS premium had some kind of tranny programming, was smooth as silk, so much so, my MIL (Lexus driver) was surprised as it was even smoother than her Lexus. Gear lockdown was rather gutsy too, which makes a big difference when you tryin to get that hole shot! Drive a slightly warmed over 14 Fusion 2.0 turbo now.
@@peronet73 I have the 3.0 in my ford freestyle and combined with the cvt is quick as hell due to not having to hunt for a gear so I say thank you Porsche for helping ford out with the 3.0
@@lsjionredlinesupercharged2049 That 3.0 had a lot of unrealized potential that Ford never took advantage of.
These are mondeo st24 in uk i owned 1 12 years ago the imrc unit used to fail on most of them apart from that found it to be a decent car
Ive never seen one of these in person(that I noticed) but they look cool and 200 hp rwd can be fun.
Dalton McNealy it’s fwd...
my sister had an SE version man that thing was fast what saw 2 the end of it she ran the car totally empty of gas she didn't want it to fix it so she traded it for a Mazda 6 2 6 not a bad trade though being that the 6 2 6 was Manuel but I still missed that get up and go of the Contour
Mannnnn! I had the chance at getting 1 before, but I messed up and settled for a 79 Lincoln instead!!! Yeah! Kicked myself in the 🐎4 dat😂😂😂😂😁had some good ole times in da Lincoln town car, it was home once!🤗
Put 150k miles on my second hand 85 Townie! Fuel injected 5.0 Baby!!!
@@sulliemaelittle5924 nah, that was a long time ago. Traded it for a BMW in February 1996.
My cousin had the 98. And had his rebuilt and totally redone. 740hrp. 720ibs. AWD
I had a contour with the V6 not the manual but it was the biggest pain to work on any part of that car you had to work had you take some part of the engine apart . Needed to get the alternator and replace it engine apart . Oil engine apart .
I bought mine for 400$ and drive it home 2 hrs away. Great ass fun car
I’ve had two of these! I’m ready for another!
Dude, that’s so weird!!! The Facebook ads at 5:19 are the ads I was just looking at before I jumped on here to check out some Contour videos!
This is my first time hearing of this car. I’d actually would buy this vehicle
You would actually would?
Fuck YES!!!!!!! Ford Contour. The Front wheel drive monster that I would lose the cops in the mountains with on ice covered roads. Love it.
The base model se with the 2.0 wasnt much of a slouch either. Makes me want to slap some later model ford 2.0 turbo stuff at it
Love the video...what other vehicles today would you say are of this caliber. All things being equal?
I'm thirsting for this! 🤘
Lol I have one
I loved the t-red’s, but I was happy with my black 98 CSVT. I miss that car…
I miss my little conturd.
