Unfortunately, by the time I start driving, in about 4-5 years, this car will be too old and will not be able to run anymore. My sister has to buy a new car soon, because the brakes broke, and were replaced, the whole entire radio has fallen out and apart a couple of times, and my dad said that he was gonna cube the car by the time I start driving. Good memories are attached to it. Fly high Blue Bandit
I had a 99 SVT Contour in 2001, it was a great car for me at the time and I hammered the crap out of that car daily! I frequently drove it from Sonoma County, CA where I live to Southern Cali, often taking HWY 1/101. I enjoyed the sleeper aspect to it, I pissed off many owners of cars in price ranges far above the SVT's. Great video brought back some super good memories. Thanks for the great video!
A friend of mine used to have 1999 Black SVT Contour and modified quite a bit. It is a bad ass car and originally was designed to be a I4 AWD Turbo but it would have threatened the then slow as balls SVT Mustang. Sadly it was stopped being made after 2000. It was a great car(yes and yes the fact your butterflies still work is nice but yeah it is a Demon to deal with it mechanically)and had some great power for the time. A lot of people would keep the head and put the 3.0 bottom end in it. My friend nick named his 1999 SVT Contour The Dark Demon and it was just bad ass. The car has a great top end and my highly modified 1995 GLX VR6 Jetta(everything N/A/ but upper displacement)and his SVT would have a great time racing. Lots of fun if you can keep the car up mechanically and it's extremely classy looking too.
I have a 98.5 that hasn't run in 5 years sitting in my driveway. Its complete and the body/interior are in great condition other than sitting. I haven't had the heart to scrap it so if anyone is interested please reply. NJ/PA area.

I miss my 98 CSVT. only had it one year but with 205k on the odo and a harness that was turning to dust with the rust in the rockers.. cant find parts.. it had to go :( still an amazing drive i'll never forget
This was the reason I had to let mine go too. Just couldn't find any parts. Ford wanted insane amounts for OEM parts that will just sit and gather dust until thrown away.
Owned this car 2000 same exterior colour but black leather interior. Owned from 2002 - 2016. Fantastic car. 5 HP more (200) stock from the factory and a rear sproiler
I've got a non-running Green 1999 CSVT that I'm working on currently. It came stock and if the engine block is okay I'll probably keep it that way but if it's not I'll probably throw a 3L in it. I've also got a 1997 Contour Sport that I use as my daily. It's not easy working on these cars but they are fun to drive.
DON'T BUY REMAN PARTS. I used to work at a big auto parts store and we stocked reman parts from Cardone. It was honestly 50% chance they were bad out of the box. From starters and alternators to racks and power steering pumps, I've had parts failed out of the box. I went through 3 reman pumps for my f-150 before I found one that didn't whine. If you can, buy new, the only reman parts you should buy are calipers, even then make sure the brackets are right because we had a lot of returns because the bracket was wrong.
I agree, I had a town car that I kept on replacing the steering box with remanufactured ones. So one day I said let me get genuine one from Ford and problem solved.
That is old-school. I had forgotten about the Contour SVT. The maintenance sounds like a nightmare and it really is surprising that Ford would have engineered such a difficult design. I hope that the owner has a great time with this project.

My sister has to buy a new car soon, because the brakes broke, and were replaced, the whole entire radio has fallen out and apart a couple of times, and my dad said that he was gonna cube the car by the time I start driving. Good memories are attached to it. Fly high Blue Bandit
Does this have the mazda kl or the yamaha sho motor? Or neither?
It's neither...
@@allanb3222 what is it? What other cars use it
It's from the Ford duratec engine family. Also Mazda used it in the MPV, which was the GY engine family.
Ford escape, Mazda tribute, Ford Taurus, Mazda mpv and even some Jaguars. Ford put the 2.5 and 3.0L engine in a bunch of cars.
Porsche and cosworth designed the dohc all aluminum v6 duratec.
Jesus christ, bring back Matt.. I'd listen to him talk about watches all day,,,
3:47 But that JDM front end Integra though!!!
I have a 98.5 that hasn't run in 5 years sitting in my driveway. Its complete and the body/interior are in great condition other than sitting. I haven't had the heart to scrap it so if anyone is interested please reply. NJ/PA area.
Judd511 what was the reason for it sitting originally? I’ll be in the tri state in the a few weeks and wouldn’t mind grabbing it. Shoot me an email, Dean.holde90@gmail.com
if you were closer to MI I'd take it.
@@deanholder4509 the cel came on and it began misfiring pretty badly. It was a bad winter and I didn't have the time to work on it.
I'm interested. Could you shoot me an email? mnewminer@gmail.com
How much?
His shades definitely make the car look cooler lmao
I had a '99 Tropic Green SVTour, lived in northern Arizona for 6 years with it. This video is sure making miss the good old days.
Respect for dedicating time on a forgotten car. Good to see something different.
I owned a 99 mondeo st24 and really regret selling it, best car I've had, but lust for boost took over.
i'm probably wrong, but is this filmed in the Ortega mountains?
I miss my 98 CSVT. only had it one year but with 205k on the odo and a harness that was turning to dust with the rust in the rockers.. cant find parts.. it had to go :( still an amazing drive i'll never forget
This was the reason I had to let mine go too. Just couldn't find any parts. Ford wanted insane amounts for OEM parts that will just sit and gather dust until thrown away.
Owned this car 2000 same exterior colour but black leather interior. Owned from 2002 - 2016. Fantastic car. 5 HP more (200) stock from the factory and a rear sproiler
Exactly!! I had one in college everyone thought it was lame.....man were they wrong!!! Awesome to see this!!
Zack your face during the intro was priceless.
The original four door stang! Lol
lmao Good one!
MaxSpeed this is cool
@@RegularCars my man
Ever heard of a little car called the falcon?
except its fwd ewww
The SVT Contour had the best sounding V6 I've ever heard. It was incredibly smooth and intoxicating to rev
Always really liked the way these looked and sounded.
Nice. I love these lesser known performance Fords
The Mondeo was Britain's most popular saloon car for 15 years
@@jonnyretro5873 but not the svt version
I had one of these 😀. Love that car. Also had a 91' SHO.
Good job SVT contour guy much better video than SVT focus guy 😂
i'm a little late and all but i'm looking at buying one. does anyone know if you can run 18in rims reliably?
Miss my buddies old 98. The hell rides we took that thing on were insane and it was so damn comfortable dipping corners around a buck in it.
Thumbs up for @Savagegeese trackside support at 20:56
I like how they do a show based on all cars from stock to modified
Nice homework Zach! One of the most informative One Takes. Thanks Zach and Alex!
Will not forget this car. I had a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP on and lost to one on 316 going from Atlanta to Athens GA. It was close but he had me.
Alex works at my local auto parts store, he's a really knowledgeable gentleman. He should have his own car show
DON'T BUY REMAN PARTS.
I have a 99 contour and I actually love it lol
My dad had this car for some time and I loved riding/driving in it. Learned how to drive a manual in it too.
Its cool seeing people make functional track cars on a shoestring budget.
I always liked how these looked back in the day.
now this is a special car. i appreciate crazy orthodox builds like this one.
