Quiche is the one and only meal that he plans around the weather.
I remember my Navy days, in the North Atlantic. During storms we had some 25 degree rolls, that was when your breakfast or dinner would slide across the table. I quickly learned how to keep it down.
We hold our plates and tilt them against the roll of the ship.
Excellent video!! Captured everything for those of us that are landlocked. Otherwise we would never know what goes on out in our oceans. You all are definitely Heroes! You volunteer to be there to help where needed and to save lives. God Bless and Protect you all!!! Now, about those tall seas, how in the world does anyone sleep when the ship is rolling around like that? Do they have to tie themselves into their bunks? Oh my goodness, I would not want to be in the john during those waves. Oh No!! You all are just amazing!!!
These seas can last for weeks at a time so sleep comes naturally after a couple of days. We have blanks that we can fit down the side of the bunks to stop us from rolling out.
As for the toilet, that takes careful timing & balance as does every other activity such as showering and eating. The cook still provides 3 full, hot meals a day.

Very rarely are cruise liners caught out in these conditions.
Most passengers cannot handle real shipboard life so lumpy weather is avoided at all cost but yes, she’d roll a little bit 😂

There is a thin line between brave and crazy LOL I give u guys a LOT of credit I couldn’t be out there on a boat no land in site. But when it is calm it is beautiful. But now with the whole rogue wave and super rogue wave (cause rogue waves aren’t scary enough we have to have super ones now too 🤦♀️) no way would I be out there. Lol next thing u know they will find the cracken lol be safe! It’s awesome you guys do this job.

The largest wave I’ve recorded was 29 meters but the wave that smashed our bridge windows was much bigger

as someone living in Nebraska i literally can not understand big water like this closest thing ive come to any of this is a windy day up or the gavins point dam lake in south Dakota and the wave were almost always half that size

In the seas through the 46.00 section, does the ship simply hold station, bows to the swell, match speed to swell and wind and effectively stay put?
Are the rescue team up to rescuing in these conditions, if the rig lost a crew overboard? Or….?
We of the Coast Guard have a saying, "We have to go out, we don't have to come back". Every first responder seems to adhere to that. I don't think these gents are any different.✌️🐱
@@PhoenixLyon . It’s possible you have applied a different take on my question to the one I meant. They showed the small rescue vessel going out in relatively easy seas. Then they showed a 28 meter waves storm and that cabined RHIB is not a Trent or. Shannon lifeboat.
I merely wanted to know professionally what they would take on. You speak as a coast guard, I speak as a sea kayaker who knows full well what the sea can chuck at seafarers.
The DC craft have limitations as to sea state, but the whole ships crew are there to respond to any emergency related to the platforms. If the smaller boats can’t respond, they have systems in place to manage emergencies with just the main boat. Does that help (I’m just an observer btw)
@@raeward8092 . The ERRV is clearly capable of standing on station even in an emergency. Would be interesting to hear in what seas the smaller boats can make an impression. In due course I’m sure we’ll hear from the the Wavemaster himself.

Yes, we are going as slow as we can to maintain position. Would we launch in this? Probably not but you never know in a real situation. A dead rescuer rescues nobody.
We have other means of rescue in such conditions such as Dacon Scoop, Rescue Baskets and Scramble Nets. We would do our best.

@@wigglypaw Our oldest crewman is 78 but still as fit as they come. He’s an ex-deep sea diver and still goes out in the daughter craft every day for 4 hours at a time.

I don’t do deep sea diving… nope… my good friend worked doing diving rescue/recovery on the Hudson River, NY. I can tell you without a doubt that God makes a job for everyone. I was the one at White Plains autopsy waiting for them. Being 54 means you have another good 30 years working the docks before you can retire, eh?

Non-seafarers question. Do you think a yacht like Ulysses or Andromeda could handle those massive waves safely ? If not them, do you know of any "luxury yachts" that are built for handling those seas ?
Those kind of vessels are only designed for flat calm weather or tied up in marinas
@@Bigwavemaster1 Ulysses and Andromeda look pretty rugged. So does Legend. Planet Nine went to Antarctica. I know most yachts are for the Med or Caribbean but some of them claim to be explorer yachts.
@@renorailfanning5465 Yes, there are plenty of cruises and yachts go to the Antarctic but only in the summer. Obviously it is dark in the winter so wouldn’t go anyway.
They go in the good weather. It is not just the vessel that need to be rugged but the passengers also.
If you take a look at one of the videos that show you around the inside of our ship you will see that it is minimalistic. Everything is secured or bolted down. These even goes for cups and mugs and that is just in the good weather. Now take a look inside one of these luxury yachts. Nothing about the interior or exterior of these says they are equipped for being hit by 20+ meter waves.
It takes a lot of experience even to sit down or sleep in these conditions not to mention eat, shower, walk or shit and all the other activities. Objects would be flying through the air. Passengers would be begging to go home or be taken off.

there is a good doc on big boats,netflix or prime. some of those tubs almost 400 feet. my driveway is 450 feet so I can get a good eye on their length. Some are ocean going but most seem to be island hoppers. my best friend Barbara had a 42 or mawbe it was a 43 foot Irwin sailed around the world for years. the poor sailboat met its untimely death in a hurricane, my friends were safe.
I though that the accepted way of getting a potential exposure victim out of the water was horizontally, to avoid stress on the heart? Not so ?

THE VIGIL
Came home one night from playing billiards .
My Mother was just putting down the phone .
That was Mikes Mother she said .
Her 2 sons did. Not come home from fishing tonight , they should have been home 2 hr ago .
I called everywhere , no one has seen them .Have You seen them ? She asned .
Call me when You find out what happened .
So everyone stayed close to the phone ALL NIGHT .
At about 8 am a phone call came in , my Mother answerd the phone .
They found them she said
They washed up on shore this morning .
Thier engine stalled , the weather got really bad , they thought they were going to die , so they went to the Cud and prepared for it , but it didnt happen .so they fell asleep and waited to die in thier sleep.
When they wokeup they had washed ashore .
Next time I saw him , he said he was selling the boat and never going out there again .
AND THAT IS WHAT HE DID .

Think you need to read the title again 😂
Just a spot of constructive criticism. At the start of the film we need a shot of the ship we are on! Are we on a tug? An oil tanker? A fishing boat? Excellent film of the wave action, the imagination of the viewer just needs to know what we are in. Also If there is anyone on board under the age of 70 and capable of speaking English you might have him narrate some details. E.g. are we looking thru windows at the stern in a following sea? It could be the bow but there is no spray being thrown up. We can't see the bow and we can't imagine it because we haven't seen a picture of the vessel we are on. Also If you are going to force us to listen to screaming hydraulic motors at least tell us what they are. Details brother, details.

What qualifies this as “the largest waves on the Planet”? Those waves can’t possibly the largest. The largest recorded wave was over 1700 ft. There are waves that are surfed in the 70ft range. A category 10 swell is 50ft plus. Those are rare but reported. Maybe I have the perspective wrong and I’m not seeing the true size of the waves.
